before I make a boot decision I cant afford to regret...

what boots am I supposed to wear with straight leg jeans? I have a pair of below knee boots which are fine but would like another pair, I'm thinking ankle boots are for skinnys which at size 16 I'm to 'parsnippy' for so I stick with straight leg cut.

I'm thinking a mid calf boot would be alright... yay or nay?

Love these but they are expensive

kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 12:41

Thank you everyone for your help and encouragement, I'm constantly making mistakes with clothes / shoes and cant afford to buy new things just because it takes me ages to figure out it doesn't actually look good.

I like the brown boots everyone has linked to, the pair with the 3/3.5 inch heel are too much for me but I can cope with all the others I think, especially when I'm out doing grown up things and not child-wrangling!

Good news is the brown knit top fits and looks okay, will be fine for smart casual things and possibly even the London lunch if its decided to go a bit more casual --and spend hours and hours in the pub--

The boots will be my birthday present this year, I have school run boots that I hated after the first weeks after buying them for my last birthday but they suffice for the purpose.

Favourites so far are...

Dune

Hush Puppies

Timberland

Here are the timberland ones but without the buckle, a fair bit cheaper, do they look the same?

www.amazon.co.uk/Timberland-Womens-Earthkeepers-Birchmont-Chelsea/dp/B00GU9IP5W/ref=pd_sim_sh_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=027HK0F3H54R3K2JJW57

The Dune ones are sold out everywhere by all accounts.

All the links in the first three are the same Grin

I like the shape/colour of the last pair you linked to but not the colour of the heel. I think it stands out a bit too much from the shoe ITSWIM.

What sort of look do you like clothes wise?

LittleG69 · 12/10/2014 13:09

I have these from Next that I wear with my slim leg jeans. They're more of a charcoal than a true black.... Boots

Milmingebag · 12/10/2014 13:14

Loads of nice ones here of the ilk you have said you like

here

ElephantsNeverForgive · 12/10/2014 13:17

Now all I need is those gorgeous timberland boots with comfy grippy low wedge soles.

(Desperately need a replacement for every day, can walk miles in them, leaking Clarks boots)

PS. Since shut down photo up load is being stupid.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2014 14:02

Yes, those cheaper Timberland ones are v nice too. I think they would be nice with jeans and either of your tops. What colour are your jeans?

pixiespride · 12/10/2014 14:29

Agree with Hettie - Fatface have some lovely ankle / Chelsea boots with free delivery and returns at the moment you could order several pairs to try on with your jeans and top. I have recently bought Fatface boots they are comfy and pleased with quality too. Im not a skinny and very pleased with look of them with straights and bootcut. Hope you find something you are happy with.

polyhymnia · 12/10/2014 16:31

Yes, nice top. I think Chelsea boot or similar is way to go.
Of the Clark's ones Remus posted I only like the first personally.
Personally very much recommend some I have - Russell and Bromley Zip Code. Comfortable but stylish in low key way.
Come in black and several other colours. Sorry, can't link on phone.

kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 16:43

Oh I do like the R&B zip code ones but I just cant justify £165 :( will check out fat face now.

OP posts:
hettie · 12/10/2014 16:49

what about these brown ones (if you fancy brown) they have a bit of intersting detail and the heel is not too bad...

hettie · 12/10/2014 16:57

ahh righ having seen the russel and bromley ones then you might prefer these/// don't work for fatface honest.... i was just trying to find something similar a Hudson boot I had seen .... talking of which these are gorgeous

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 12/10/2014 17:07

I have these from clarks. Much nicer in real life. They do them in black too. www.clarks.co.uk/p/26104356

Langdon place is the model name if the link doesn't work. I also have African ice which again are lovely.

kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 17:13

I was just coming back to link to those ones Hettie, I like them, not as much as the R&B zip code ones but they are probably more practical for my exceedingly casual lifestyle!!

I'm feeling confident with the criteria of brown Chelsea boot around the £80-100 mark

Anyone want to weigh in on the Fatface boots?

OP posts:
kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 17:19

Hmmm I'm sure I can find another £20 for the buckle Timberlands, they seem just a little bit dressier that the fat face ones.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2014 17:31

Personally not fond of the Fat Face ones, especially the first pair. They look a bit clunky.

V plain Dune ones

Milmingebag · 12/10/2014 17:52

these are rather lovely. Good neutral too...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2014 18:17

I saw those earlier and they are nice but pale grey nubuck not terribly sensible for a British A/W. :)

Milmingebag · 12/10/2014 18:22

No probably not! Grin

However other pictures show them looking a bit more battered so I think they are more of a relaxed thing where a bit of discolouration adds to the general charm.

John Lewis own brand has some surprisingly nice ones middle aged eyes

kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 18:25

Nice find Remus I like those too and price is good, will check them out on the desktop up close and personal

OP posts:
kiwidreamer · 12/10/2014 18:27

Isn't it funny how there are marginal differences but they really change the boot significantly... It must be exhausting being fashionable ;)

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/10/2014 18:48

Oh gosh - I don't give a toss about being fashionable or not. I go for slightly austere quirkiness, which (I think) suits me, so tend to buy the things I like rather than the things which are necessarily in fashion. Pretty much anything goes if worn with the right attitude these days, anyway.

Milmingebag · 12/10/2014 18:57

Best of Luck on your quest kiwi.
