OP posts:
Tutter · 27/09/2006 08:13

it'd be ok for just a couple of years but covers aren't removable for cleaning

what about argos?

nailpolish · 27/09/2006 08:14

i really dont like argos

i was thinking that too about the covers

have seen a couple i like in ikea but they are just that bit too dear, kind of

OP posts:
Tutter · 27/09/2006 08:14

this similar i think but with removable covers

Tutter · 27/09/2006 08:15

or this?

my parents got a couple of argos sofas and they're still ok(ish) after about 7 years

nailpolish · 27/09/2006 08:15

nooooooo tutter
!

i have a sample swatch from tesco and its a nice red, chenille

i have to say, im being too fussy for someone so skint

OP posts:
nailpolish · 27/09/2006 08:16

oooh the 2nd one is better!

OP posts:
moondog · 27/09/2006 08:16

I think it's fine NP.
Have you tried the Futon Company though?
They make incrdibly solid pieces prety cheaply.
We have one in our living room that I really love-looks freat covered with an antique Welsh blanket and some big cushions form Saudi.

Not at all like hideous contraptions we remember from student days.

moondog · 27/09/2006 08:17

Don't i implore you buy Tutter's second one or will have to put you out of your misery.

Tutter · 27/09/2006 08:18

Confused is it really so different to np's first linked sofa??

moondog · 27/09/2006 08:20

It's that Lucy onethat makes me want to slit my throat.
It's covered in that horrid velour type stuff isn't it?
And the colour!
Gawd help us!

Consider second hand NP.
I don't generally go for new anything unless it is top notch.

nailpolish · 27/09/2006 08:21

dh doesnt like their stuff, plus its not cheap enough, moondog

i still like my tesco one best

OP posts:
Tutter · 27/09/2006 08:21

md, np originally linked to a deep red, chenille sofa

hence i linked to another

nailpolish · 27/09/2006 08:22

well, good for you moondog, but top notch is not within my means

i will have another look at ikea again i think

thanks anyway

OP posts:
moondog · 27/09/2006 08:22

Oh Tutter,ignore me.
Am feeling anti sofa today.

nailpolish · 27/09/2006 08:23

tutter, the couch is ok but i have a real 'thing' for argos, we are not the best of friends

OP posts:
moondog · 27/09/2006 08:24

NP,what I mean is that there is lots of ace second hand stuff about, not that I am so high and mighty as to only do new.
Really!
Have a look-you may be surprised.
(My latest fab buy is all in one desk and chair from an old school for dd-iron and wood and solid as hell. £30)

Do Tesco do sofas????

hulababy · 27/09/2006 08:27

It looks fine to me.

Alsso, have you looked at Sofa Workshop Direct - they are reasonably priced and normally a few designs to choose from.

NotQuiteCockney · 27/09/2006 08:28

Second-hand can be good - we got a used giant (7-seater!) leather sofa for £250 recently. You can search ebay by location. Gumtree can also be good, or freecycle, even.

nailpolish · 27/09/2006 08:28

i was a bit surprised at that comment MD, about 'top notch'

im shite at finding 2nd hand stuff tho, never know where to start

tesco direct is a new website rivalling argos (si rivalling a word?)

OP posts:
nailpolish · 27/09/2006 08:29

i just want an effing couch that isnt BROWN

want something bright

like red or orange

OP posts:
noddyholder · 27/09/2006 08:38

Better to get a decent second hand one from ebay or the local ads than a cheap one We bought something similar from argos as an emergency when selling a house once it was creaqmy yellow and was so tacky and horrible I sent it straight back Look on Ebay!

NotQuiteCockney · 27/09/2006 08:49

There really are bazillions of sofas on ebay. Given I was looking for a) very very big b) modern c) reasonably near me d) not patterned etc, and I found something reasonably fast, if you want something easier, you should find it no problem.
