My Mother says I look ghastly in Clarks heeled brogues - return or keep?

I bought these Clarks heeled brogues in oxblood.

They're very comfy but I haven't worn them yet so I can still return them!

My mum saw them on me and was horrified, said I they make me look short and fat (which I am, but obviously try to choose clothes that make me look my best!).

Return or keep?

No! They are gorgeous. Your mum is wrong. Grin

WhyBeHappyWhenYouCouldBeNormal · 16/09/2014 15:11

Those are really nice!

littlewhitebag · 16/09/2014 15:12

They are lovely.

ChablisChic · 16/09/2014 15:14

Ha ha! Depends how old you and your mother are! My DD (26) and I (59) have differences of opinion occasionally but I think we've finally agreed to differ and not make disparaging remarks as we have totally different tastes. We will, however, pay compliments if and when relevant.

I think the shoes are OK, but it depends what they look like on you. Sounds as though your mum had your best interests at heart.

Petal02 · 16/09/2014 15:15

I really like those shoes! Do you always listen to your mother ........ ???? Wink

DayLillie · 16/09/2014 15:15

Your mother or the shoes? Grin

AlleyCat11 · 16/09/2014 15:18

I like them. But my mother would say the same!

Chewbecca · 16/09/2014 15:19

Hahah, I don't want to return my mum, she can be nice. But can also be brutally honest.

So yes, I do listen to her, sometimes ignore, sometimes take note. depending on how stupid the advice is.

But she gave me a niggle in the back of my mind about wearing these, however, you lot are making me think she is just in the dark ages and I was right to have liked them in the first place!

Love them, I would keep Smile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/09/2014 15:35

I like them!Smile

I seem to remember shoes very like this becoming fashionable when I was in school, around 1979ish? I particularly remember, because I would have loved a pair. Sad.

Maybe she saw them first time round, and finds them a little passe? (there is an accent on the last e.....)

DayLillie · 16/09/2014 16:09

How about trying them out and photographing yourself in the mirror (unless you have someone around to do it)?

TortoiseshellSpecs · 16/09/2014 16:10

Oh I really want those but they are out of stock in my size, in my local branch and online.

SirChenjin · 16/09/2014 16:10

I had a pair of those in 1979. It was one of the only times my mother gave into my shoe requests - I think she was feeling guilty for dragging me through a move to the opposite end of the UK. I like them then, I like them now - but it does depend on what you wear with them, like anything

furcoatbigknickers · 16/09/2014 16:10

If you like them wear them. They are not my taste.

BunnyLebowski · 16/09/2014 16:16

Mothers can be twats. Mine thinks that anyone bigger than a size 10 is ghastly Hmm

I like the shoes. I have these similar ones which I wear all the time. Wear them with pride and ignore the comments Smile

PicandMinx · 16/09/2014 16:23

I think your DM is being mean. The shoes are fabulous.

Badvoc123 · 16/09/2014 16:23

I think they would look lovely with the right outfit op x

Twinklestein · 16/09/2014 16:29

She's quite right they're vile.

You can buy nice heeled brogues though perhaps not from Clark's.

cathyandclaire · 16/09/2014 16:32

I like them, I had some when I was 13...they were called 'Granny' shoes back in the day Grin

MrsLettuce · 16/09/2014 16:33

Heeled brogues are a great thing! I fear Clarks has just, just missed the mark though, as they so often do. Sorry.

enjoyingscience · 16/09/2014 16:33

They are lovely! I was expecting all kinds of frump, but they're really nice. That said, where are yours from bunny?

My DM is lovely, but my DGM has been known to prod me in the squashier parts and tut. Ignore, ignore ignore...

honeybunny14 · 16/09/2014 16:35

There lovely keep them Smile

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/09/2014 16:37

I like them, but they would make me look short and fat so she may have a point.

MargotLovedTom · 16/09/2014 16:40

Hmmm, depends what you'd wear them with tbh. If you are short and well covered then I think there's a risk of looking a bit Dolores Umbridge in them. But sod it, if you like them then keep them Smile.
