Anyone else who cant wear anything between their toes?

I have never been able to wear flip flops or sandals which have a bit of material or plastic that goes between my big toe and second toe. It is so annoying, especially when planning holiday clothes! It would be so easy to buy a couple of pairs of flip flops and be sorted on the footwear front.

But they really, really hurt. And no amount of soldiering on and trying to get used to them stops the pain. My feet end up in shreds.

Am I alone?

No, I feel your pain! It makes me feel quite sick even thinking about it!
All the pretty sandals are the flip flop thong type. grrrr.

Darkchocsprinkles · 14/07/2014 22:39

With you, OP.

The thread title alone sets my teeth on edge Grin

flingingmelon · 14/07/2014 22:42

Me too, and I've got thin feet so I usually manage to walk through the end of anything else open toed.

I've got some terrific winter boots though Smile

Haggisfish · 14/07/2014 22:43

No, you're not alone! Can't stand it.

IsItMeOr · 14/07/2014 22:44

Me too. I have to shop for comfort first.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 14/07/2014 22:45

I used to
I have found one pair I can wear and I think it's because there is no pressure on that bit

redandyellowbits · 14/07/2014 22:47

Me too! Can't walk in anything with a toe bar, my feet are in agony after a few minutes of wear. It's very annoying because there are so many lovely shoes out there just waiting to be worn!

JoyceDivision · 14/07/2014 22:49

I conquered my flip flop fear 2 years agoand since then as soon as spring arrives my havaianas comeout

I had not worn a pair of flip flops / shoes withthing between toe until I was 32.

One day, i just thought 'Bugger this, I really really really wantto wear flip flops' bought areally cheap pair that were really light, shoved them on my feet, and just wore them in the house for a weekend, not going out to shops or anything, just while I was moving around in the house, and after the weekend, that was it, fear banished!!!

It is one of my proudest moments Grin

i cant do toe bars - any i have ever tried have been so uncomfortable and usually end up blistering. I have perservered with great wads of plasters to break through it but it never seems to work.

smellyfishead · 14/07/2014 22:53

I used to be like this, until I discovered Animal swish flip flops, they are super comfy and the bit between the toes is made from spandex so does not hurt/irritate etc, they are amazing and I but one new pair every year, they do loads of colours/designs and are £14 which I think is reasonable since I tend to wear them every day in the summer months.

I am currently 31wks pregnant with very swollen, sore feet, they are literally the only things I can squeeze my fat feet into at the moment! Blush

Passmethecrisps · 14/07/2014 22:57

I haven't even bothered to read the thread yet because I want to say

OMG! Things between my toes are AWFUL!!

I have tried and tried and it ends it tears.

I will now read the thread

MonterayJack · 14/07/2014 23:09

Not found any flip flop yet that I can handle. I'm 53 now, so assume if something wearable were out there, I'd probably have discovered it by now. Have tried Havanianas, Animal, Reef, Crocs, cheap ones, expensive ones, fabric ones, leather ones, rubber ones. Every single pair I've ever tried hurts/rubs within minutes. I've never even got as far as getting a pair beyond the shop door in a bag. Instant discomfort.

Purplewithred · 14/07/2014 23:14

I used to be lke that till I had my bunions fixed. Surgeon specifically pointed out that not only had he remodelled my hideous feet, reduced the pain and made it possible for me to wear heels, he had also created a gap between my toes big enough for flip flops. I was and still am childishly delighted.

smellyfishead · 14/07/2014 23:18

monterayjack, lol how have you tried so many, without getting them past the shop door?!

IsItMeOr · 14/07/2014 23:20

No bunions here, so that can't be my problem.

ThatBloodyWoman · 14/07/2014 23:22

It depends what is between the toes I have discovered.

A big plastic post is unbearable.

A leather thong is absolutely fine.

Snowflakepie · 14/07/2014 23:26

I cannot wear regular flip flops. Round posts hurt big time.

Birkenstock Tabora has a narrow leather strap and is perfect. I have lots in case they discontinue them!

My dd has ugly big toes which are narrow at the base but big and splayed at the pad. She can wear any flip flop with no issue.

Not all feet are equal Wink

MrsPennyapple · 14/07/2014 23:27

OMG I hate toe posts! In fact I googled Havaianas today after hearing them mentioned loads on MN, was gutted to discover they're just flip flops. A whole world of footwear that's just not possible for me. I did once buy some flip flops and wore them for about an hour, by which time I had a massive blister between my toes. Oh the pain!

A friend tells me I need Birkenstocks. I am reluctant to shell out the money because even the thought of anything between my toes makes me shudder.

Passmethecrisps · 14/07/2014 23:34

Right. I need my feed plastically remodelled like purple.

I am so very jealous of the lovely flippy floppy feet of other women. It looks so care free and boho

Passmethecrisps · 14/07/2014 23:35

I have Birkenstocks but not toe post ones. They are foot bliss

smellyfishead · 15/07/2014 00:00

animal swish, honestly you will not get blisters!! the spandex is so soft after a while you hardly notice theres anything between your toes Wink

DioneTheDiabolist · 15/07/2014 00:10

I hate toe posts. So painful and uncomfortable. You are not alone OP.Sad

MrsPennyapple · 15/07/2014 00:11

Hmm... these Animal Swish - do they do a "try before you buy" offer? I do wish I could get past this toe post thing, it's so annoying seeing nice summer sandals and then having to write off half the stock of the shop.

LizardBreath · 15/07/2014 00:18

I LOVE YOU PEOPLE!
Toe posts disgust me, can we form some kind of tribe of comfy shoe only please?

BeatriceBean · 15/07/2014 00:28

Yup - I find it a real problem. I need support at the back too so can't do ballet flats either unless there's a strap....

I think I might get hiking sandals... but oh to just be able to throw flip flops on.
