Anyone else who cant wear anything between their toes?

I have never been able to wear flip flops or sandals which have a bit of material or plastic that goes between my big toe and second toe. It is so annoying, especially when planning holiday clothes! It would be so easy to buy a couple of pairs of flip flops and be sorted on the footwear front.

But they really, really hurt. And no amount of soldiering on and trying to get used to them stops the pain. My feet end up in shreds.

Am I alone?

these Birkenstocks are very hard to accidentally fall out of. I've even run in them! Perhaps try some in a shop and see ?

HopefulHamster · 15/07/2014 09:58

I've got some with the heel strap, Beatrice for that exact reason - problem them is you lose the advantage of being able to slip them on and off easily!

BeatriceBean · 15/07/2014 10:20

I might do that Nancery - I've never found slip ons I've been able to walk for more than 15minutes in.

Idrinktoomuchireallydo · 15/07/2014 10:24

It's the Arizona's i have and i never have a problem keeping them on. I have trouble with the one strap ones but the two straps keeps them firmly in place.

Purpleroxy · 15/07/2014 10:25

I have croc flip flops which just have pieces going across the foot. I never wear actual flip flops or anything that goes between toes.

SadEyedLady · 15/07/2014 10:29

Another toe-post refuser here! I used to wear flip-flops in my teens and not have a problem with them, but then one time in my early twenties I foolishly bought leather flip-flops with a slight wedge and a canvas toe-post, which were beautifully comfy in the shop. I wore them for a full day at work, and oh my god, the agony! I was actually bleeding between my toes, it took ages to heal properly. I've not worn sandals with a toe-post since. I live in non toe-post Birkenstocks, my current pair being the Bali model. Bliss!

bigbadbarry · 15/07/2014 10:34

Toe posts make me feel absolutely physically sick (so does a badly fitting bra) apart from one ancient pair of birkenstocks that doesn't have a post as such but a very slim piece of flat leather. I don't think they make that style any more :(

murphys · 15/07/2014 10:34

I have found that if you buy leather shoes look to see if the post is flat, then you SHOULD be ok. That is what I have found. If the post is rounded or any other shape than flat, forget it. Oh and only leather. They are the only ones I can wear too.

I have spent many a time with plasters in between my toes, because I just was going to get a pair one day. Its taken 40 odd years mind Wink.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 15/07/2014 11:16

these are the type I can wear. I find the
Rather comes far enough up the top of my foot that the toe post hardly does any work. It being sideways, flat and leather means it's soft and sits comfortably. I can't wear any other type but I can live in these

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 15/07/2014 11:17

*find the leather

This is so good to read as I can't wear toe posts either and thought I was a freak.

However I did get some purple sparkly Tesco flip flops last month that were 3 quid and have a towelling toe post (yes towelling) and they are FINE.

So who knew.

Rooners · 15/07/2014 11:41

Oh and since I read about someone on here who got cellulitis from a toe post blister I am strengthened in my conviction that they are evil and put out there to torture us.

flowery · 15/07/2014 11:46

I can't. I have a burn scar in between my big toe and second toe on one foot, so that was toe posts ruled out forever. I haven't found it a major inconvenience I have to say. I just wear flat sandals on occasions others would wear flip flops.

RoganJosh · 15/07/2014 11:49

I have never been able to, but am ok in these

I suppose they tick a few boxes that help, leather, slim post and ankle strap.

I toyed with pretty sparkling ones in my misguided youth but the agonies. Birkenstock two straps brightly patterned are my friends. Bright Birkies.

Oblomov · 15/07/2014 12:49

no. same. and my feet are very very wide, which just makes shoe buying even more difficult.

I lived in flipflops in my teens and 20s. Now in 40s and cannot abide them. Always get blisters between toes and it makes my bad back worse.

LilyRose88 · 15/07/2014 12:58

I have never been able to wear flip flops as the toe posts always rub me. I think maybe the area between my toes is too sensitive to pain. The very idea of wearing flip flops makes me squirm and cringe.

My DP thinks that my reaction is extreme so it is really comforting to realise that there are others with the same problem. It is frustrating as I would love to be able to slip on a pretty pair of flip flops in the summer and I am always envious of people who wear them.

Icantcook · 15/07/2014 13:30

Would these help Op?

MonterayJack · 15/07/2014 17:28

Smellyfishead that was a bit ambiguously worded :) I mean, I've tried them IN the shop but found them instantly painful, so have never got to the stage of buying any and hence, getting them beyond the shop door. I've come to the conclusion that my toes aren't built to the right design to comfortably accommodate any flip flop yet created.

YY we need to form a toe post objectors society. We could call ourselves The Post Graduates :)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 18/07/2014 21:02

AAARGH I hate them too! And they are all you can buy. It's grim. It's like when someone pokes you in the navel
