Anyone else who cant wear anything between their toes?

I have never been able to wear flip flops or sandals which have a bit of material or plastic that goes between my big toe and second toe. It is so annoying, especially when planning holiday clothes! It would be so easy to buy a couple of pairs of flip flops and be sorted on the footwear front.

But they really, really hurt. And no amount of soldiering on and trying to get used to them stops the pain. My feet end up in shreds.

Am I alone?

I join the toe refusal tribe, also never been able to wear any "between toes" flip flops ever, have tried several times, always painful after a few steps never mind minutes or days. Would love to be able to, but can't.

I also have narrow feet with very thin heels/ankles. Wonder if it's the gap between your toes that is the crucial difference?

Glad to find it's not just me!

I can't stand having anything between my toes either - it makes me feel sick! I wondered if I had a strange acupressure point there or something. I wear Birkenstocks and Saltwater sandals (which you can wear in water) but I'd love to be able to wear flip flops.

Mrsfrumble · 15/07/2014 00:57

... Except for the fact that they call flip flops "thongs" here in America. [shudder]

EverythingCounts · 15/07/2014 00:59

Can't bear toe posts. Hate them. Hate them all. Only wear across-the-foot sandals. At least it saves time because your choice is so much reduced on that basis

MsVenus · 15/07/2014 02:47

I cant wear flip flops outside the house as my feet get sore from all the walking. I do have 2 pairs of sandal shoes from primark which are comfy. They are leather shoes with laser cut parts in the body with the toe part covered iyswim.

Similar to this style but in tan and black, feet stay cool but doesn't get trampled on the tube by women wearing stilettos on the tube.

Ahhh, I have found my people!

Darkchocsprinkles · 15/07/2014 07:20

Certainly no bunions here! I am offended!

Like many of us, I have long skinny feet and an enormous toe gap. I mean, you could fit a Sharpie pen in there easily Wink

I don't find toe posts uncomfortable - tbh, the thought of it makes me so queasy I have never got as far as wearing them Grin

I have found great sandals from Cos, Varca and Josef Seibel. No desire whatsoever to go flippy floppy flappy along the street . Wink

kelda · 15/07/2014 07:27

I can't wait those flip flops and I don't care in the slightest. They look unattractive on other people, and you certainly can't run or even do any proper walking in them.

kelda · 15/07/2014 07:27

*wear not wait.

Idrinktoomuchireallydo · 15/07/2014 07:36

I hate toe posts too. I only wear the normal Birkenstocks as they are the most comfortable sandals in the world. It seems they are now very trendy and so instead of staring at them in derision my teenage daughter has started borrowing them! Score!

peachdaiquirionmytoes · 15/07/2014 08:16

I too cannot wear them. Just looking at flip flops takes me right back to my childhood and having bloody, peeling toes. I find it difficult to look at them on other people without wincing.

Passthecake30 · 15/07/2014 08:30

Ah like minded people! The thought makes me feel sick..to me its like something stuck in my teeth, knickers up my bum....omg its just not a nice feeling!

Nancery · 15/07/2014 08:35

Birkenstocks, and not the bloody toe post ones (ugh, am with you) have been my staple summer shoe for at least the last 15 years

Pancakeflipper · 15/07/2014 08:40

My toes are cramping at the very thought. Ooh not happy toes.

HoobleDooble · 15/07/2014 08:43

I'm another toe-post avoider! I've tried, how I've tried. Bleeding blisters and awful toe cramps as I feel like I'm clenching my feet to keep them on (I'm the same with ballet flats, spend all day with my feet clenched, then awful cramp in the evening when I take them off).

My theory is that it's all the fault of my grandmother, while all my frends were running around in plastic holiday flip flops in the 70s, she would insist on taking me to Clarkes for something 'accurately measured and supportive', hence my feet were never allowed to toughen up.

AwkwardSquad · 15/07/2014 08:47

Me too. Toe posts are agony. Unwearable, and that includes Birkenstocks with toe posts. I too have long skinny narrow feet - I put the pain down to lack of cushioning.

OnlyLovers · 15/07/2014 08:55

I've got skinny bony feet with a big toe gap, and I can wear flip-flops. It did take a lot of perseverance and willpower though.

On the upside, there are loads of non-toe-post summer shoes out there!

TimeForAnotherNameChange · 15/07/2014 09:20

I hate them. Nothing to do with pain, they just revolt me! It is all sorts of wrong to have something between my toes, makes me clench every fibre of my being!

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 15/07/2014 09:21

Wow! My people, I am not aloone. I have never met anyone in real life (apart from my mum) who cannot wear anything with a toe post.

Interestingly, I do have bunions and am contemplating surgery. But I couldn't wear toe posts even before the bunions, so I don't know whether that is all of it. And I can't wear ballet shoes/pumps either, as I also need support over the top of the shoe. There needs to be an strap or something over the top of my foot to keep it in place and supported.

The toe posts on the animal swish here look enormous. There is no way I would be able to accommodate that toe post .

Me too. I used to wonder how anyone could wear them until one day looking at DH's feet I noticed he had a massive toe gap where I have none. I also have long skinny narrow feet and find getting any shoes or sandals to fit a nightmare Sad . Currently wearing teva walking sandals but they're not very pretty Sad .

HopefulHamster · 15/07/2014 09:26

I hate toe posts and have completely given up on them now. They just rub 98% of the time.

If I want sandals I wear Saltwaters (fab) or Birkies (which sometimes rub but are better than flipflops).

Mabelface · 15/07/2014 09:44

I've just had one bunion fixed and I still don't think I'd be able to wear flip flops. Would make life easier for me right now if I could, add they're probably the only shoes is be able to wear comfortably with my toe splint.

Mabelface · 15/07/2014 09:44

Excuse on phone typing errors!

BeatriceBean · 15/07/2014 09:46

I like the idea of the birkenstocks without toe posts, but I don't think I could keep those on without a heel strap.
