30, my hair is half way down my back. Do I need to cut it now?

Hello

I should just make it clear that I mean the hair on my head Grin

There's not much else to say really. I suppose it's the age old question- Am I too old to have very long hair?

I know 30 isn't old, but is it time to get the chop?

Thanks ladies Smile

Do you like it? Do you love it? Do you do something with it?
Only cut it if you want to.

Cocolepew · 01/06/2014 14:51

I don't think anyone should cut theit hair because of their age.

merlotguzzler · 01/06/2014 14:52

I'm annoyed at myself, because I think I've allowed myself to be influenced by the media Angry

Columnists for example, seem to be constantly having a go at Kate Middleton for having long hair in her early 30s.

I'm 30s and growing mine to below boob length.

KissMyFatArse · 01/06/2014 14:54

Mines is long too, a few inches below bra strap and I keep thinking I need to have it cut cause I'm 31! but I'm gonna try hold off for as long as I can! X

StrawberryCheese · 01/06/2014 14:55

I'm nearing the 30 mark and I have the same length hair as you. It wouldn't occur to me to get it cut shorter because of my age. I don't fancy being a 70 year old with long grey hair though.

Keep your hair how you like it :)

beccajoh · 01/06/2014 14:57

Yes you should chop it off and become an old lady frump, because 30 is over the hill.

Do what you want with your hair!

HenriettaTurkey · 01/06/2014 14:59

When I turned 30 I chopped off my beautiful long hair, for an uber stylish short style (think Gwyneth Paltrow in Sliding Doors).

Worst idea ever - it was so high maintenance and I looked much better with long hair.

Spent the next 5 years growing it back!

noddyholder · 01/06/2014 15:01

I am 49 still have long hair (pics on here) I don't care what others think tbh and I really look terrible with short hair. I intend to have long glam grey hair when older like cindy joseph.

PacificDogwood · 01/06/2014 15:05

If you like it, keep it Smile - the age adage is really outdated and rubbish

I am 48 and have just-below-shoulder-length hair; I'd like to keep growing it a bit longer (?bra-strap length).
Having said that, I have had v short crops and liked them too - I think how much maintenance a short hair cut needs depends a lot on your type of hair: mine is wavy and the short hair meant I could just wash, rub a bit of styling wax in and go - it always looked great (IMVHO Blush).

The biggest pain in the backside was the chin-length bob: long enough to need styling, not long enough to put up.

Mabelface · 01/06/2014 15:07

I'm 44 and I have waist length hair. I won't be cutting it.

MrsCosmopilite · 01/06/2014 15:08

I'm 45 and have hair well past my shoulders. My good friend (who looks stunning) is 51 and has hair well down her back. I have three other friends 45-48 all of whom have long hair.

I say if you like it, leave it.
Mary Beard looks great!

noddyholder · 01/06/2014 15:09

I think a bob traditional type is very ageing especially blow dried smooth

Admiraltea · 01/06/2014 15:13

Read same b/s and chopped mine off at 28 stupidest thing I ever did. Spent early 30's looking 10 years older!!!

Now in 40's and half way down my back, carefully "put up" for work and surprises people when I let it down but I love it!!

Ignore the media, they are generally knobs and no-one should ever cut their hair because of others shallowness. It is your hair do what the hell you like with it!!!

(Speaking sternly to 28 year old me who spent a lot of time crying over lost hair and feeling like I "had" to do things because I was too old...also missed several years of being size 8-10 not wearing a bikini as "too old")

Best advice ...don't read any papers except for actual news, never ever ever buy a magazine! Saves hours of worry.

noddyholder · 01/06/2014 15:14

Agree! The no bikini thing is so true

DurhamDurham · 01/06/2014 15:17

I'm 44 this year and still have long hair. I will cut it one day but not for a long time yet. My sister has promised to tell me when the day comes when I am in danger of looking like a slightly deranged old woman with straggly hair Grin

PacificDogwood · 01/06/2014 15:17

noddy, I've just stalked you looked at your profile and No Way are you 49!
Unless you have some hideous oil painting in your attic…

mswibble · 01/06/2014 15:20

Have your hair however the hell you want it!
Though if you want long hair, at any age, I think it needs to be in good condition. Split and dry ends dont look good on anyone!

There is a woman who models in the Saturday or Sunday mags, think its the Observer. She's in her 70s I believe and has a gorgeous mane of silvery white hair cascading down her back. Thats what I want to be like when I grow up. Id much prefer to look like an ice princess than those cropped styles in what I call OAP henna.

Admiraltea · 01/06/2014 15:25

Have 12 bikinis now and don't give a hoot! Sarongs and kaftans cover up wobbly bits when walking around.

Will now write "buy a bikini every year for each daughter mid 20's to 30's" on to do list. Along with reinforcing the messages that "people who need fixing have to do it themselves" and "saying no does not require an explanation or a sorry"

Along with my absolute favourite...."never deliver yourself to anyone like a free pizza"

Keep that hair LONG!!!

elfycat · 01/06/2014 15:26

Well if you haven't had it cut in a while and the ends are a bit dry it might be worth a trim

I'm 42, I've had long hair since my 20s and I'm not changing it now. My ILs thought I should have had it cut 5 years ago when I had DD1 but we can add my long hair to the list of things I've ignored their advice on. I've never even died it which is probably against some fashion law, though I love the white streaks.

elfycat · 01/06/2014 15:28

*dyed

FGS, autocorrect at least managed the pronunciation this time though.

quirkychick · 01/06/2014 15:29

noddyholder and others -exactly. You look fab btw. I am 43 with long curly hair (not down back atm as had twice yearly few inches off).

Quickest way to frumpdom is to choose meh styles. Hair or otherwise. Do what suits you.

I fancy long, silver hair when I'm older too.

RobinSparkles · 01/06/2014 15:30

I'm 30 and my hair is bra strap length. No intention of cutting it except a trim.

My neighbour is 34 (but looks 25 Envy ) and has hair slightly longer than mine and looks fabulous.

burnishedsilver · 01/06/2014 15:30

Depending on the shape of your face, it can stop suiting you as you get older. You are nowhere near that point though. You're a good 15 years off it.
