30, my hair is half way down my back. Do I need to cut it now?

Hello

I should just make it clear that I mean the hair on my head Grin

There's not much else to say really. I suppose it's the age old question- Am I too old to have very long hair?

I know 30 isn't old, but is it time to get the chop?

Thanks ladies Smile

I think the days of chopping hair off for age reasons are gone. I think doing that ages you I have a few friends who are frantically growing theirs back and hugely regret the chop! I think sometimes late 30s a pixie cut can still look good but older than that I always think either Pat Butcher or Gloria Hunniford!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/06/2014 15:37

I'm 44 and went for a pixie a few months ago. Honestly, it was one of the best things I've ever done. Then again, my long hair was shapeless and horrible - if it's cut regularly and styled, then long hair is fine.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/06/2014 15:38

I don't think (hopes!) I look like Pat Butcher. Shudder.

noddyholder · 01/06/2014 15:40

I am generalising though if you have the right face its such a cool look I would look hideous though!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/06/2014 15:41

You've seen my pic on Twitter, but I had been rained on. It's usually better. Needs cutting again tbh.

BoysiesBack · 01/06/2014 15:41

I'm the same age as you, OP, for a few more days anyway and have the same length hair.

No chance will I be getting it cut any time soon, or maybe ever, don't think if feel like me with short hair and I know it wouldn't suit me.

Meh to anyone who says (slightly) older women can't have long hair.

Nocomet · 01/06/2014 15:43

No

TroyMcClure · 01/06/2014 15:43

if i cut mine less than shoulder I look like a bulgarian power lifter

noddyholder · 01/06/2014 15:43

Ah yes I remember :) It looks so easy I am envious although I don't do much with mine but should

Now the top has grown a bit, I need to straighten it, but when first cut I can, 'Just wash and go'! Long hair used to drag my whole face down, but, as I said, that's because i was a lazy mare who didn't style it or anything.

ithaka · 01/06/2014 15:45

Can I just say, short hair does not have to be frumpy.

I have short hair & it is in no way Pat Butcher or Gloria Hunniford - how very dare you! More Frankie Sandford, or Victoria Beckham when she had short hair. Incidentally, I think VB looked much better with short hair - the long hair does nothing for her.

It is personal choice and style, not an age thing. Long hair is fashionable at the moment, but short hair is definitely coming back on trend. I don't like traditional 'femininity' so long hair isn't for me (neither is long nails or high heels). And I will never be an earth mother.

I feel my short, sharp style reflects me (elfin, tomboy, non-traditional). If long hair reflects you, it is right for you.

noddyholder · 01/06/2014 15:47

If you are elfin it is stunning but most people I see with it aren't!

I'm 32 and my hair is a bit longer than bra strap length. Im not cutting it, it's easy and convenient to have it tied up and it looks nice down if I'm going out. What I might do is dye it purple. I don't really care if I'm too old for it, I've always fancied purple hair so why not?

specialsubject · 01/06/2014 15:53

there is no age limit on hair length. Do they expect Kate Middleton to have a blue rinse?

I love long hair. If you like it and it suits you, keep it.

KM's hair is lovely. Agree re the make up.

ChickenFajitasAndNachos · 01/06/2014 15:57

I'm 45 and have very long hair, about an inch of my waist with shorter layers around the front. I'm going to hang on for a couple more years. When I was 35 to 40 I did the whole bob thing and now when I look back at old photos I looked so mumsy.

Bicnod · 01/06/2014 15:57

I'm 35 and have managed to finally grow it to bra strap length.

Everyone says it makes me look younger (probably because last time I had it this long was when I was 17) and my hairdresser has said he will never cut it off again even if I beg as it suits me much better this length.

So if you like your hair long keep it long, no age limit on long hair IMHO.

ReadyToBreak · 01/06/2014 16:36

I'm 30 with boob length hair, not cutting it anytime soon.

Plus, would be lost without my bikinis.

Sod the media!

Mabelface · 01/06/2014 16:45

I'm 44 and I have waist length hair. I won't be cutting it.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 01/06/2014 17:05

I don't understand this rule.

Is it because everyone over 30 is supposed to be an old respectable married woman who shouldn't seduce others with her hair? Or is it a belief that it's not flattering.

imip · 01/06/2014 17:15

I'm 43 in 26 more sleeps. I did shorter bob length hair from 35-40. Admittedly I had four dcs inthis time and I was looking for maintance free.

After dd4 when I was 40 I decided to grow it long after neglecting to get it cut for a while coupled with huge hair growth while breastfeeding (still bf, still grows uncontrollably). I'm hanging onto I t for a few more years, it's down to my armpits and I dye it quite dark. I have a blunt short fringe cut to the side, however will just go blunt and short next hair cut.

I love putting it up and then just having a short fringe. The most maintance free look!
