Have to admit those hot summer days are well over. So... I need some new trainers for the winter, as funky as poss.

I know some of you don't like trainers but I do a lot of walking so there...

Right, they need to be dark so they don't show the dirt.... that's about it. Am willing to pay a fair bit as i'll probably wear them most days.

Thanks !

I'm with Thomcat and Scoobydooo - another fan of Adidas shell toes

NotAnOtter · 30/08/2006 21:18

like these but 90 pounds!

Gobbledigook · 30/08/2006 22:08

Love those Thomcat

You deffo need a few pairs. Well, at least two - a dark pair and a white pair imo.

CurrantBun · 31/08/2006 10:38

I LOVE trainers but can't wear them unless I'm prepared to shorten all of my trousers and jeans (which I'm not). Just hate that frayed bit of denim dragging along the pavement which is what happens if you wear trainers with long jeans.

So I always wear low-heeled boots rather than anything completely flat ... unfortunately. I'd love to wear trainers; they're really funky.

Thomcat · 31/08/2006 13:12

How many trainers, as many as poss.

I own
1 pair all white shell toes
all white with black stripes shell toes
2 pairs of all black, inc black stripes shell toes
1 pair of white high top shell toes with black stripes
1 pair of white high top shell toes with blue stripe
1 pair shiny silver adidas sambas
I pair of classic nikes, white and black
1 pair red suede O'Neil trainers
silver & red Nikes
red converse
green & yellow converse pumps
orange & brown DKNYs
white & black DKNYs
1 navy nikes

and that's after a clear out!

Need a new pair, not bought trainers for a while.

CD - had no idea that Birkenstock did anything but sandals, so will have to check out those trainers. I'm a big walker, and always struggle with finding shoes that are comfortable over distances and can withstand sudden bad weather (would it be bad if they get wet in the rain?). In the past I've usually opted for practicality/comfort instead of visual appeal. Those Birkenstocks may be just the thing.

CountessDracula · 31/08/2006 14:24

earlybird I spray them once a week with waterproofing spray and they are fine

Earlybird · 31/08/2006 14:32

Interesting thought CD. Guess I've been a bit dim in the past as I've sprayed shoes when new and not again. Never occured to me to do it regularly. Thanks for the tip!

AnelaSunshine · 31/08/2006 15:39

God I love Mumsnet have just ordered those Birkie trainers. V excited now.
Thanks for this thread Wheely.

cowmad · 31/08/2006 15:43

new balance
shetchers
dunlop green flash...yes really!
what about crocs, not trainers but well in at the mo

marthamoo · 31/08/2006 15:46

I have these - i've had a blue pair for years which are getting a bit scratty so I was really chuffed when I saw them in brown here. They're sort of trainerish shoes so wouldn't suit trainer purists I s'pose.

Gobbledigook · 31/08/2006 15:59

Moo they are really nice, reeeeallly nice.....

Gobbledigook · 31/08/2006 16:01

love these too - I like them better than the ones I bought and they are cheaper. Bum

Gobbledigook · 31/08/2006 16:09

Oh I quite like these too

marthamoo · 31/08/2006 16:14

I saw those other Fly ones too, gdg, really like them - but somehow £62 seemed much worse than £49 for a pair of trainers! Andf I like that other pair too...

marthamoo · 31/08/2006 16:16

Oooh, £65 actually, aren't they? Nice though.

Smurfgirl · 31/08/2006 16:27

I have some puma ones and some dunlop velcro ones (navy and white) but I might buy some k-swiss soon...hmmm. I love those fly ones am v,tempted.

jac34 · 31/08/2006 16:30

Everyone in work is wearing MBT's,stands for Masai Barefoot Technology www.mbt-uk.com
They absolutely swear by them. There are great claims about them, the girls in work claim firmer legs and bums, even weight loss.
Seems a bit too good to be true to me,I'm just too mean to pay over £100 for trainers.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 31/08/2006 16:34

I wear my old white reeboks to do the housework

I have a pair of white ones with velcro straps that i wear with my cropped jeans and shorts

bundle · 31/08/2006 16:35

big marketing con imo. sil wears them (freebie) and walks v pigeon-toed in them..
