Are Michael kors bags a bit tacky?

I've been thinking of getting myself one as I really like the shape of the totes, but I know the watches are beloved of teenage girls and I just wanted to check whether the handbags are viewed as a bit off or not.

Tacky isn't really the word I want but I can't think what it is!

Some can be a bit blingy but there are some lovely ones which aren't too heavily logo'd

RhondaJean · 05/04/2014 20:30

I love this

What do you think?

I think that's lovely but then I always love a red bag

RedRoom · 05/04/2014 20:33

They are ok. He uses real fur in his haute couture shows, so I wouldn't buy his stuff anyway.

Pagwatch · 05/04/2014 20:33

Michael Kors bags have got much better over the last 18 months - like DKNY.
Less gauche and tacky. Much better bags.
I personally don't like the ones with the locks but nice bags

AmberNectarine · 05/04/2014 20:34

I've got a white one - I call it my euro trash bag. I love it!

That one is really cute.

Philoslothy · 05/04/2014 20:36

I have one, I am quite tacky though.

RhondaJean · 05/04/2014 20:36

I like it too - its Thr shape and colour I like, I'm not so fussy about the brand if anyone has any other recommendations.

I eat meat, I am in no place to be critical about others using fur I'm afraid.

Sorry Phil it really wasn't the word I was looking for Blush

I got a marc by marc jacobs too hot to handle hobo last year which I've been pleased with. Similar price point.

Philoslothy · 05/04/2014 20:48

By MN standards tacky is quite a polite description . I was called a serial killer earlier. Grin

I would imagine that if I have something it is tacky for most middle class mumsnetters.

I don't think they're tacky. I think they are bags that people have when they want a 'designer bag' but don't want to pay too much and have therefore gone for the least expensive 'designer' option IYSWIM.

RhondaJean · 05/04/2014 20:52

Jesus what did you do to be called a serial killer! I was told I was killing the children onc because I wash towels after every use.

Check TK Maxx as they seem to get Michael Kors in a bit. They had a lovely bright blue one a few weeks ago.

Philoslothy · 05/04/2014 20:56

I have a modern house.

libertychick · 05/04/2014 20:57

I think the MK you linked is lovely. Around where I live they are ubiquitous so that puts me off them. I feel in the morning on the Tube that everyone either has a MK or a Longchamp Pilage!

libertychick · 05/04/2014 20:59

TK Maxx does get them in a lot but I have heard that MK does a range of bags specifically for outlets so I always assume that the TK Maxx ones are from that range so you might not get the one you like.

libertychick · 05/04/2014 21:00

Wow I sound like a snob - disclaimer - my most recent bag is from TK Maxx!!!

RhondaJean · 05/04/2014 21:05

I have a rather nice grey Patrick cox bag I got from tk maxx so I will certainly have a look.

I have a modern house too, I probably shouldn't even be allowed on MN.

I find them naff and too trendy.

MrsNoodleHead · 05/04/2014 21:11

I like the "cut" of them; MK uses classic shapes. But they are everywhere. On my way into work I see them over and over again, and it's obvious because of the branding. For that reason I'd never get one.

libertychick · 05/04/2014 21:15

what's wrong with modern houses???

RhondaJean · 05/04/2014 21:17

I don't really see many of them around here at all (deepest darkest west of Scotland)

I'm off to cyberstalk Phil to find the modern house conversation.

I like a lot of Michael Kors bags ( the totes) I have 4!
I don't like the style of the one you linked to though.
A friend got a copy of one of mine in China or Thailand.Hmm
DKNY are very similar- I think they must have the same designer or factory or franchise owner.
I have to say they are everywhere(common) !
But is that because they are not too expensive or they are lovely and practical and we all have good taste?Wink
