Johnnie Boden...so annoying

Drywhiteplease · 31/03/2014 21:08

I was put on hold today and Johnnie comes on, sounding like Prince William "so sorry, ra RA! but we're busy!RA RA! please hold"

Is it just me or is he a bit if an idiot?
I loathe the hideous Boden floral macs, tunics, etc infact any of the floral stuff.
Can't stand the naff captions "Olda, a true friend will know the name of your parents" umm noooo
"Anne, the most underrated thing in the world: a beautiful smile" Hmm
Id rather "Helga, hates this stuff but doing it for the money"
"Lucy , shagged Lord Cecil on the snooker table last night wearing a lovely tweed skirt"
And all that hot air about launching Boden to the FRENCH ! The FRENCH JOHNNIE....you're crazy, did it happen?

Johnnie some of your product is fab (the up identifiable stuff, great quality, some novice accessories) but cut the crap please, we're not stupid.

I luff Johnnie. He just sent me a birthday card with a 10 quid voucher.
Also, a dress I bought a month or so ago was reduced further in last weeks sale, they refunded the difference. Brill customer service.

Vickiyumyum · 01/04/2014 10:31

OOh Dolly- wonder if we share a birthday as Johnnie sent me a voucher for my birthday to. Shame I will probably end up spending it on the DC.

HappyMedium · 01/04/2014 12:46

Ooooh I also got a birthday card & voucher.

TulipOHare · 01/04/2014 13:18

It was my birthday recently and I did NOT get anything from Johnnie

You know, I do own and wear a lot of Boden (basics) and I really rate them for many things, including great customer service. But it was a brilliant Boden-mocking thread that brought me to MN in the first place. Was hilarious Grin

I tend to like things only from their autumn / winter ranges. There's nothing I even remotely like at the moment, other than the very plainest cotton and linen tees.

YesAnastasia · 01/04/2014 13:22

Love the product but the man makes me cringe.

That said, I like the British vibe they've got going & he kind of fits with that bumbling toff thing...

YesAnastasia · 01/04/2014 13:23

Oooh the spotty linen tee Tulip? I like.

Vickiyumyum · 01/04/2014 13:24

I'm wondering if its because I've ordered hardly anything this year? I've gone from spending hundreds per season on the dc and another few hundred per season on myself to less than £50 this year as I just haven't had the budget or inclination to be thinking too far ahead for clothing.

Its worked though as have basket ready to check out on payday, minus £10 Grin just need a 20% discount code to go with it.

Twinklestein · 01/04/2014 13:53

Of course he's an idiot and the clothes are vile. I don't get the collective psychosis...

Dollydowser · 01/04/2014 22:46

Vickiyumyum 20% off code J3M3 worked for me earlier.

Vickiyumyum · 02/04/2014 10:53

thanks Dolly i'll give it a go.

Kudzugirl · 02/04/2014 14:20

The S/S catalogue is, well,. a catalogue of hideousity. It really was a case of when it landed on the mat.

Twee misfires of runway styles plus same old same old. The only things worth having are the slingbacks. In my oipnion anyway.

Darkchocsprinkles · 02/04/2014 14:34

I used to buy a lot for the dc but no longer...

Now a £15 gift voucher has popped through my door.

Even armed with that, and the new catalogue, I am struggling .

Dollydowser · 02/04/2014 14:50

Out of interest, those who used to shop at Boden and now don't, where are you buying from now?

Kudzugirl · 02/04/2014 14:59

I only buy the very plain classic things (at heavy reductions) from Boden. Plain sweaters for example.

I hate all that ditsy print stuff.

I mix designer and High St. I get a lot of discounts through work contacts (I now write copy for fashion websites and stores in addition to my actual professional everyday job) which is why I am aware of what is said about Mumsnet S&B boards in the industry.

I realise that this means I can buy clothing that would ordinarily be out of my reach either cost wise or morality wise- I can find no justification for that £250 T shirt.

polyhymnia · 02/04/2014 16:41

As a matter of curiosity what is said about the M N board in the industry ? Is it taken with the seriousness it deserves ?

Kudzugirl · 02/04/2014 16:49

Yes the peeps i work with take it VERY seriously. They know that a thorough slagging off on here has a direct cause and effect. What is posted on here is but the tip of the iceberg regarding what is read, believed and acted upon.

People don't have time to trawl the shops and the internet can make people so frozen with indecision caused by too much choice that a guiding hand is grabbed onto like Leo grabbed Kate.

Figures from Mumsnet show that 79% of readers bought a product after a recomm on a thread and 80% seek advice and reviews before buying.

That is in my view, fairly accurate.

Vickiyumyum · 02/04/2014 16:55

Well if there's a Boden voucher going spare I can always make use of it ?? feel free to pm me!

Tbh I probably am a bit mumsy despite a substantial weight loss still a bit pudgy around the middle size 12 mum of 4. I'm not cutting edge or hugely into fashion. I like to wear clothes that suit me and I'm comfortable in. I wear formal office wear to work so it's nice to put a jersey dress on or a plain or striped top with a skirt and not really think about accessoring. My hair is always styled and I wear make up so hopefully I don't look too frightful.

LordPalmerston · 02/04/2014 17:01

I'll take a voucher off anyone..

SecretSquirrel13 · 02/04/2014 17:09

Oh it's you dryGrin
Would normally agree but a £15 voucher came today so am feeling a little love for them now. Will likely get the Breton top with it.
