I had a striped number from BHS (Classy!) when I was 13 - I am now 38.

ocd · 06/08/2006 20:35

i had a cream one with and arran pattern on it
i wore it with Pixie boots

i do, and i didn't wear them back then, either.

sweater dresses and people under 5ft., 6in. don't mix.

just made me look like a walking blanket.

QueenPeaHead · 06/08/2006 20:36

me me me me me

I looked marvellous. but then I was 13, flatchested, skinny and longlegged and only the last still applies, sob

DumbledoresGirl · 06/08/2006 20:36

I had a blue one with a line of sheep at the bottom. Later my mum converted it into a jumper but it never quite worked.

Did everyone's bottom make the back bulge out or was that just my monstrosity?

ocd · 06/08/2006 20:36

oh fgs you wer a kid
oyu wore wither what you were told to or what was in fashion
either way you looked bad - non?

OP posts:
tenalady · 06/08/2006 20:37

I do, I had a rather fetching pink one with me pink stilletos and maybe a droopy belt with big hair!!!

expatinscotland · 06/08/2006 20:37

i didn't think of myself as a kid when those last came out, though.

i was a teen desperately trying to pass for an adult.

no. those things just hid the lovely figure i was desperate to show off - once i escaped my father's watchful eye.

ocd · 06/08/2006 20:38

arf
did no one else ahve the silvery thread in the knitting?
was tellign dh about that look int he early 80s of string vests over t shirts
he siad thta didnt hit herefordshire

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 06/08/2006 20:39

i wanted one of those stringy vests. my dad said they looked like fishing nets and if i wanted one, i had to spend my own money.

MacSporran · 06/08/2006 20:42

Yes I had a string vest in turquoise. Matched my ankle warmers which went with my jeans with the white stripe down the side!

southeastastra · 06/08/2006 20:43

those vests were always in neon colours

ocd · 06/08/2006 20:44

i todl dh theat in hereforshire thye just had the string vests

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 06/08/2006 20:47

I had a polo necked sweater dress from Benetton
I would look ruddy awful in them now - I have even less waist than I did then, I'd look like a bloke in a blanket.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 06/08/2006 20:47

string vests over t-shirts? hereforshire didn't know what it was missing. I had a long sleeved bat-winged black string top from Clockwork st C&A that I wore over just a bra. god I looked good. anyone remember flying/jump suits? keep seeing those try to make a come-bakc but never actually see anyone wearing one. i had a lemon-yellow one which I wore with a black belt, a grey one with some pink zips and a sort of purpley-pink checked affair that must have looked like pyjamas

ocd · 06/08/2006 20:48

clockwork at c and a
god yes

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 06/08/2006 20:48

I used my dad's actual string vest and tied different coloured ribbons through the holes. I think I got the idea from 'Jackie' magazine

FrannyandZooey · 06/08/2006 20:49

I also had turquoise dungarees that said "Go-Go" on them, and a Clockwork checked black and royal blue wool jacket.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 06/08/2006 20:49

I think it's been reinvented

NotActuallyAMum · 06/08/2006 20:51

I had one, it was a cheapo one and I didn't dare sit down in it because when I stood up you could still see the bumps where my knees had been

lucy5 · 06/08/2006 20:51

I had a polo neck one with a zip, mmm classy!

expatinscotland · 06/08/2006 20:54

I wore dungarees w/Doc Marten boots.

I also wore 'parachute' trousers and my dad said they looked like clown's trousers.

I had lots of leg warmers b/c I was in ballet from the age of 3.

I also wore my ballet skirts over trousers. WTF?

NomDePlume · 06/08/2006 20:55

It wasn't clockwork, it was CLOCKHOUSE, ARF.

NomDePlume · 06/08/2006 20:56

You don't have to be 30 to remember these. I'm 24 and remember them. I had a number of them in gaudy primary coloured sweatshirt material with horrid embroidered polo shirt type collars...
