I LOVE the sandals - in every colour!

I like the skinnies but go for pastels for SS if you want to update them. The duck egg, silver grey or cream. And darks for more formal times. I like those silver/duck egg and creams with a bright for warmer weather or sunny winter days. Neon brights don't seem to work so well on me in gloomy weather. I use the same principle as the Southern Europeans do regarding house paints. Bright or intense in the sun, the more muted shades in Northern European light/Winter.

Mignonette · 26/01/2014 19:34

Update them Fedup with what you wear them with. I still wear narrow pants because I am drowned by volume and i fidget with it. I tend to dopt certain styles and vary the colour/pattern/texture.

My other principle is adopt either a colour or a shape trend per item, not both. Take the cocoon coat. If you bought a pink cocoon coat you are nailing both of AW's trends but it'll date faster than a cocoon shape in a less on trend colour. That's how i (loosely) do it although every season has one thing that I absolutely love and buy anyway. Am thinking of getting my ears pierced again because I love all this fierce ear jewellery.

LinusDKD · 26/01/2014 19:36

I was the same with skinnies, I only bought my first pair last year.

Very tempted to buy some coloured ones. I loved my raspberry Paige ones but they are now too big.

Off to see if TS have any nice ones....

RubyLovesShopping · 26/01/2014 19:39

I had some raspberry TS Leigh's Linus.

LinusDKD · 26/01/2014 19:46

I just saw some nice pink ones ruby but unfortunately no raspberry ones. Sad

MarshaBrady · 26/01/2014 19:47

Raspberry sounds nice.

I saw a burgundy Celine trio today. I didn't know whether to be cross (that someone else had it) or pleased (cos it looked so nice) Wink.

LinusDKD · 26/01/2014 19:50

Maybe it was me marsha....

Umlauf · 26/01/2014 19:51

fedup I love those boden sandals, especially in the zebra.

blair have you seen the Peter Pilotto for Target collaboration? Its quite kazantrouesque. I don't normally like collaborations but I love that first dress and the blue shorts/jacket suit and one of the other dresses.

There are some gorgeous MiH jeans in a raspberry at AR that I can't decide whether to try. They only have a 30 and my Marrakechs are a 29 but tight. But I'm normally 27 in denim... ho hum.

mig that sounds like a good basic principle to go by. I also find hemlines date things a lot, frustratingly. I have this but it needs to come up a few inches, by the time I get round to having that done really long ones will be back in.

MarshaBrady · 26/01/2014 19:51

Ha!

Am envious you have one. You weren't in EC2 by any chance .

Bit far for you? Grin

MarshaBrady · 26/01/2014 19:52

They're a bargain Umlauf!

LinusDKD · 26/01/2014 19:55

Not today. Wink

I did used to work there though.

Umlauf · 26/01/2014 19:57

I know but can I be bothered with the hassle of international returns if they're too big, especially after all you've been saying about AR returns........

RubyLovesShopping · 26/01/2014 19:59

Umlauf they're showing up in a 26 too, and there's 2% stretch in them ......?

RubyLovesShopping · 26/01/2014 20:01

Ah yes AR returns- it's on my list of things to chase up this week.

Umlauf · 26/01/2014 20:17

I know, but the marrakech 29s are tight, I think a 26 is wishful thinking!!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 26/01/2014 20:23

I've seen it thanks Umlauf and pinned a dress I like to a secret board Wink I know what you mean about collaborations but I figure it must be ok if they are going to sell it on NAP.

Asos usually have some heavily reduced MiH denim too.

I agree with mig about coloured skinnies, it's just the trendy colours that have changed. It seems once a trend has been around for a while then it starts to move into brighter colours and patterns, noticeably from the designers to the high street. Classic example, I really want a leather pencil skirt, but it must be navy, and I can't find one under about £400 anywhere. The high street has only just started doing coloured ones.

I guess what I'm saying is coloured/patterned skinnies might be around until the skinny trend dies entirely?!

AmberNectarine · 26/01/2014 20:32

Mig I didn't mind buying my Marant wedge trainers even though they're past the height of their power because I've always loved them and will wear them for a long time regardless. Ditto my Kenzo tiger top - I love animal motifs!!

MarshaBrady · 26/01/2014 20:35

I saw some gorgeous light blue Marant wedge trainers on Matches. It's down atm otherwise would link. Was very tempted.

I also won't mind that oversize will probably be out next year re Marant coat. I quite like that.

shopafrolic · 26/01/2014 20:38

Evening all - one happy and exhausted DS, one happy and exhausted Shop and MrShop. Will catch up tomorrow.

Mignonette · 26/01/2014 21:19

Yes that Kenzo tiger top and the Marant trainers are definitely examples of trends that'll eventually be classics because they broke ground. That sweatshirt will be coveted by your kids Amber when they are teens! My daughter 'borrowed' my old Betsey Johnson and Body Map tops and leggings and they were once as 'on trend'.

Same with outsize coats. Balenciaga designed the cocoon coat shape decades ago and it'll never go out of style.

Umlauf · 26/01/2014 21:28

Balenciaga was a genius. I go to his birthplace museum every month. It's amazing how many classic shapes can be traced back to him. And all the old pieces are displayed on such womanly mannequins, if that is the right adjective. They are buxom and hippy, but so elegant. It's a wonderful place if you're ever in the south of France/North Spain.

OneLittleLady · 26/01/2014 21:34

Bah, I searched everywhere for raspberry coloured skinnies and couldn't lay my hands on a pair anywhere near me and because I didn't know how to measure for jeans other than dress size, I never dared by any online. I ended up with some fuchsia coloured ones in the end Grin

Mignonette · 26/01/2014 21:39

Where is the museum Umlauf? We're in Spain this spring again and I'd love to see that. Trouble is we'll be in Jerez driving through the national park to the coast so probably miles away!

Have you tried Unqlo and American Apparel for bright skinnies?

Umlauf · 26/01/2014 21:49

Yes about 8 hours drive from Jerez sadly mig ! It's in a tiny fishing village in the Spanish Basque Country called Getaria. He was very like Chanel in his beginnings, very inspired by the traditional Basque costumes and fishermen! Lots of the mental costumes we wear to the festivals here are Balenciaga, including these monstrosities! total Balenciaga originals !! They are supposed to be very arousing and phallic, apparently Hmm

Mignonette · 26/01/2014 22:09

Aah well. So much for that great plan Umlauf. That is most definitely a phallus!
