Seasalt coats. Is it just me?

I bought a seasalt coat the other week and have been looking at it sideways ever since, and trying to decide whether to send it back or not.

Basically it makes me look like an old lady.

Well I think it does. I'm not sure.

It's lovely inside (all sort of fleecy) and apparently is very waterproof (not tested as yet) but the shape is - well what do you think?

Is it Ok? Or should I return it? (it was in the sale btw, everything I buy is!)

I think it's the colour. I have a Seasalt coat that I was rushed into buying because I needed a waterproof one immediately. Weirdly, my hyper-critical teen likes it Shock. It has an adjustable waist and is not totally frumpy. However, I've just read this review of it "I have worn it every day since walking my cocker Alfie..."

LaTrucha · 23/01/2014 07:13

Found this site selling Ilse Jacobsen. Excited! My North Face is feeling a little bit big these days (honest)...

Bunbaker · 23/01/2014 07:24

"I hate the limited choices in waterproof coats in a country that is sodden to the gills!"

So true. I bought this Craghoppers coat in the autumn and have worn and worn it through this soggy winter. I am past caring that it might look frumpy because it is completely waterproof, not just showerproof.

This ebay seller has a couple of new size 38s in pastel colours, with starting bid of 75. (Disclaimer: not the seller I purchased from)

Notawordfromtheladybird · 23/01/2014 09:48

Although that's the short version, so can't vouch for that. I like the long version as you can sit in them easily on wet benches and keep your jeans dry.

NumptyNu · 23/01/2014 20:20

Sounds brill. The bonus for me is th 3/4 length too. I hear ya on the wet bench situation, but I'm only 5ft 1 and I think those 3/4 length ones might be spot on length-wise. Other thank eBay, I found a site called 'Naolo' that supplies to the Uk. Heavy postage cost at £9, especially if it ends up being returned, but worth a shot for a decent coat.

On the Ilse website, it lists Tunbridge Wells as a place where there is an actual store.....anyone know whether this is current info? (I feel a mass pilgrimage coming on...)

NumptyNu · 23/01/2014 20:23

Which leads me to the next problem of which colour....I'm liking Nut and Army most I think.....

Notawordfromtheladybird · 23/01/2014 20:27

There's definitely one in tunbridge wells, opened last year.

ChocolateWombat · 24/01/2014 15:13

I tried on the Seasalt one you bought. Saw it online and liked it. When I tried it on in John Lewis, I thought it was frumpy too. It's the shape and the materials. Was disappointed as had ravelled a long way to try it. However, then tried the Seasalt Northstar which is a bit longer and more shaped. Goes in at the waist. I bought that one because it fitted what I wanted, which was waterproof for school run and work. It's not such a dog walking coat as a bit smarter.
If you are interested in an exchange, Seasalt might let you go over the returns period. I would def ask. These mail order companies depend on goodwill. 14 days is very short. Boden give you a whole year.
If you don't love it, you won't wear it. Give them a ring.

ChocolateWombat · 24/01/2014 15:20

Sorry, just realised you didn't buy direct from Seasalt. Still worth asking though. Realise returns periods during Sale are often shorter.

ChocolateWombat · 24/01/2014 20:28

just wondered if you have decided to keep it or not Op?

NumptyNu · 02/02/2014 07:59

So I just received my softshell by post, but it was a terrible fit for me....Hmm. Has anyone seen anything else interesting on their quest?

Berty3656 · 14/05/2018 15:34

I too had the same dialema. I thought it was the colour, so ordered a green, and still looked very granny! Sent them both back x

Ellapaella · 14/05/2018 21:17

Seasalt Kellifray is much nicer, longer and more fitted. That one is not a good look.

Bugjune · 14/05/2018 21:47

Seasalt is such a depressing brand.

Ellapaella · 14/05/2018 21:56

Why is it depressing?

Ellapaella · 14/05/2018 21:57

Do you have a brand that you can recommend for a stylish rain coat?

neveradullmoment99 · 14/05/2018 22:09

I'm sure it looks fine. If you like it, keep it. If its cosy and does the job then that's fine. Its not that bad. Its a standard jacket. Hayley Croppers coat was nothing like that except in colour.

Bluntness100 · 14/05/2018 22:23

To be fair it's just like Hayley's. How sure are you it's not? 🤣

Seasalt coats. Is it just me?
Berty3656 · 14/05/2018 22:47

Lol It is Hayley, save your money and spend it on a much trendier, fully waterproof coat....a superdry Parker!! I have one in camo with pink lining and I LOVE IT! (I’m 44 and can easily carry it off) Check then our!! (Removable fur trim on the hood too)

Aeroflotgirl · 14/05/2018 22:51

Sorry it looks frumpy and something my 83 year old mum would wear. I am 41 and wod not wear it.

Aeroflotgirl · 14/05/2018 22:54

Love Superdry, I have a ski jacket I wear from there, or if it's really cold, I have a Puffa(as in the designer), long parka, or my big warm Superdry pea coat for freezing temperatures.

Bluntness100 · 14/05/2018 23:06

I agree some of the suoerdry parkas are gorgeous. Defintely the way to go.

Princess30 · 05/12/2018 11:16

I worked for Seasalt and I think there stuff especially coats are too overpriced,I mean £150.00 for coats is extortionate....
I went to TRESSPASS and got a coat for £89.00 from £189.00,the one in Harrogate has 50% off everything so I'd really reccomend everyone go to TRESSPASS instead...!!!!!!!!!! xx

Princess30 · 05/12/2018 11:20

Sorry it looks terrible..!!!
Really need I say more.!!!
Don't buy from Seasalt and pass it on,it's the coat not you you look lovley.x
