Seasalt coats. Is it just me?

I bought a seasalt coat the other week and have been looking at it sideways ever since, and trying to decide whether to send it back or not.

Basically it makes me look like an old lady.

Well I think it does. I'm not sure.

It's lovely inside (all sort of fleecy) and apparently is very waterproof (not tested as yet) but the shape is - well what do you think?

Is it Ok? Or should I return it? (it was in the sale btw, everything I buy is!)

Then again I have a battered old barbour which isn't exactly stylish

FuckingWankwings · 22/01/2014 09:59

Well, if you want it for dog-walking or other similar activities then keep it. But if you wanted a practical but nice-looking coat I'm afraid to say this wouldn't seem to be it. just buy another really nice one so you've got options [extravagant]

You could return it and buy this instead Smile. (Don't click on that twitter account, horrible pictures on there!)

Rooners · 22/01/2014 10:03

I may actually have left it too late to return. I need to find my packing slip. Oh Gawd.

Yesterday was a nightmare going to the post office about 4 times and repacking a pair of swedish hasbeens to send back (faulty). The postage was going to be something like 40 quid unless it was under 2kg.

I don't want to go through all that again.

LOL at Oddfodd and the blue and yellow stripes Grin

No bugger it, it was the 2nd, so it's long past 14 days.

I might ebay it. sigh

eddielizzard · 22/01/2014 10:07

trouble is it's got no shaping.

JanuaryShoes · 22/01/2014 10:11

I've got a seasalt mac and I definitely feel a it mumsy wearing it. It's not in the slightest bit sexy

burnishedsilver · 22/01/2014 10:21

Going on that photo its very frumpy. Return it. Deep down you know it has to go!

Rooners · 22/01/2014 10:30

Yes I think their tincloth ones are a bit more, well, a bit more elegant iyswim

I was a bit surprised to see they have a franchise in Fenwicks which to me means, Oh dear.

I can't send it back now sadly.

I've already tried to give it to my mum but she said the arms were too slim Hmm

Blush
FuckingWankwings · 22/01/2014 10:35

Oh dear. Ebay it and buy a nice one with the money.

burnishedsilver · 22/01/2014 10:39

Two weeks is a very short returns period. Will they let you exchange it for something else or give you credit if you send it back now?

tobiasfunke · 22/01/2014 10:41

I often wear fugly coats when the weathers bad. I used to scoff inwardly at all those middle aged ladies in their sensible coats. Now I am one. You can be one too. Come on OP join us warm and dry frumpsters.

FuckingWankwings · 22/01/2014 10:43

silver, 14 days is quite common for sale items

Lancelottie · 22/01/2014 10:45

Look, stop worrying and keep it. Wear it on horrible wet days and feel smug, warm and fleecy. Everyone else will have their heads too far inside their drippy damp clammy collars to care.

Rooners · 22/01/2014 10:46

::hugs Tobias::

Silver I hadn't thought to ask. I'm scared of them though so probably won't Blush

OP posts:
Rooners · 22/01/2014 10:46

Yes Lance. I may do that. Though if it is NOT waterproof it's blimming going back.

OP posts:
pictish · 22/01/2014 10:48

I do agree with Lance there - you'll be glad of it on bad weather days. Just buy another coat for looking sharp in for when the weather is ok.
I think it's fine to be practical in your choices when it's teeming down.

HelloBoys · 22/01/2014 10:56

please god no anything but that

LatinForTelly · 22/01/2014 11:05

It's a smart enough bad-weather-country-walk coat - maybe not for the city. What do you want it for, Rooners? Can you have two coats?

I have lately employed the ex-boyfriend test. I think to myself, what if I bumped into an ex wearing this, would I feel ok or slightly ashamed?

(Tbh I was never the most glamorous person, so the bar's not that high.)

Rooners · 22/01/2014 11:09

Hmm good test. It wouldn't pass the ex test but then I wouldn't give a stuff what most of them thought anyway Smile

And the ones who were lovely wouldn't care

I alreay have a few coats so it was kind of extravagant to get it anyway.

I think it might go on ebay. I will give it a try in the rain perhaps. One thing about it, the hood is nice and doesn't look stupid like a lot of them do.

OP posts:
OddFodd · 22/01/2014 12:12

I had never heard of Inis before clicking on this thread. And now I have spent money

Damn you Rooners!

:o

ps No I didn't buy a seasalt coat Wink

PiratePanda · 22/01/2014 12:16

Scandinavian brands are your answer. Try Didriksons (sp?) -- stylish AND weatherproof.

Libraryfan · 22/01/2014 12:31

i too was tempted to buy that coat but decided it was shapeless.have a look at a helly hansen long aden jacket instead.i am always complimented when i wear mine.plenty of room in the shoulders and keeps you nice and dry.

NellysKnickers · 22/01/2014 12:42

I would wear it and Im quite fussy. For the school run in the rain or weekends it would be perfect.
