Do you...

  • love fashion (high and low end), style, beauty?
  • spend way more time than is healthy for anyone thinking about the contents of your wardrobe?
  • wish you had the nerve to apply for Mastermind with your specialist subject being the history of H&M collaborations?

If so come and chat! Hugs and kisses allowed

Amber I want to be a mystery drinker!
Am feeling withdrawal symptoms, it's been a quiet month thank god socially, I'm ready to go out again now.

santamarianovella · 18/01/2014 11:51

Morning all!
Happy happy birthday linus junior, hope it goes ok linus!

shop don't feel bad about your ds's tantrums,as everyone pointed out,all dcs go through this stage, and no one has the right to judge or say anything,he will grow out of it, very soon,

dry hope it goes ok,

ani my god that's a lot of cycling,

My parents are visiting for the weekend and I'm going out with my mum for some shopping after lunch, just hope she doesn't drag me to harrods! I hate it!

LinusDKD · 18/01/2014 11:58

Ha your mum is like DH. He hates Harrods with a passion.

We went in December to pick up something in the food halls and it would have been rude not to have a little browse on the other floors so I asked if he wanted to go and meet up with me later but he said no.

Cue 45 minutes later and he is practically dragging me out of there saying what an awful shop it is.

To be fair he hates shopping malls and most department stores as he gets all claustrophobic with the lack of air and daylight.

He's home now and the DC were so happy to see him. Smile

BecauseIsaidS0 · 18/01/2014 12:09

I once went on an internet date with a guy who wanted to meet around the Kensington area. After dinner we went for a walk, and as we walked a past Harrods I delighted in telling him how much I hate that place.

Turns out he ran the men's department there Blush

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 18/01/2014 12:20

Boy, this thread is flying!

So, the Marant boots arrived and are beyond beautiful. I wanted something to be wrong with them so I could send them back and be £362 better off, but I can't. There's nothing I'd rather spend that money on (it's surprisingly easy to fritter away) and I will love them forever - definitely an inheritance piece. Also got the Gap patchworks and expected them to look weird but I have to say, DH was right and they're awesome. Perfect fit, rise, rinse, Converted.
Last of the deliveries have started to arrive, including Napoli top - love it, Neon sweatshirt - very neon and scarf. Nothing terribly exciting, but I'm looking forward to Spring and needed to feed my fever.

Enjoying the backpacks Ladies. The Frugality has linked a few nice ones too, but I may feel like I'm in 6th form again (that was 25 years ago Shock)

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 18/01/2014 12:27

Morning all (ok, afternoon. Have just had breakfast, ok, brunch!)

Wow lots and lots of posts, lovely. Have to keep 2 tabs open with the thread so I can read back Blush

Linus hope your DS has a great day, and the rest of you too with your DH back.

Love the stories of good (foxy and because) and bad (because and her internet date) coincidences.

I am not sure about the backpack thing, think I'm not cool enough as I've only seen them on bloggers. Or maybe I'm just remembering my mum having a black leather one in the 90s Confused

You are all persuading me to try the patchwork Gap jeans [sheep]!

Umlauf · 18/01/2014 13:23

I was wearing the patched Jeans when I had my lovely London compliment, so yes, recommend them!

NUFC69 · 18/01/2014 13:26

Shop, I still have very vivid memories of my DS (now 37, God forbid), tantrumming under a dress rail in a department store in Guildford - shudder. I think the worst times just stick in the memory, but we've all been there.

Re backpacks, I think they are very practical items; however I have seen too many middle aged frumpy women wearing them. This sounds very bitchy - but ex-hippy types, with long, grey, unkempt hair, wearing them, to even think they can be vaguely stylish. Actually on second thoughts, perhaps it would be better if they were reclaimed and made fashionable again, as probably they would drop them.

AmberNectarine · 18/01/2014 13:47

Considering this, on the subject of Backpacks. Is lovely in the flesh!

Drywhiteplease · 18/01/2014 14:55

I think there are backpacks and backpacks iykwim.....the lovely leather ones linked by QC and Amber are almost handbags, it's the ethnic Monsoon ones DD and her friends are using as school bags that I always think of when bps are mentioned.

Extension is on....DH was in shower when builder arrived (5mins early Novice!!) I said quietly "I want this job,you want this job, let's make it happen"!!!! Between my scaffolding saving, his discounts at bathroom wholesales our pitch was pretty convincing!Grin

Oasis khaki skinnies, stone White Co longline merino knit, white l/s t shirt, nude toned scarf, brown mid calf boots.....Chanel Particuliere nails. A vision in sludge today!

QueenCadbury · 18/01/2014 15:26

I like your style dry. I'm useless at negotiating with builders/tradespeople.

My dp have just arrived and dm has a (faux) leather backpack! If I see one I like enough at a reasonable price then I will get one. When it comes to days out in the summer and carting around hats/sunglasses/sun creams etc it'll be more stylish than the north face one I use < disclaimer: I only use the north face when absolutely necessary ie out alone with 3 dc when little dd is likely to want carrying>

Lazy day here. Just about to have a nap Smile

BrandyAlexander · 18/01/2014 16:34

Lol Dry, well done!

So, we just did first HK interview. As dh put it when she left, "I don't think we are grand enough for her!"Grin

santamarianovella · 18/01/2014 17:08

So We went to marsha's temple of worship ,liberty Grin, they had some lovely things there, lots of gorgeous lanvin flats,I must have spent half an hour browsing the shoe department, some of the summer stuff is really great, kept walking and thinking, yep, marsha would approve of this Stella m dress, or marsha would love these flats.
We then wentto isabel marant boutique, I found it so uninspiring! The boutique really looked depressing, much prefer the stock in liberty and matches.

linus harrods must be. One of the most annoying department stores in existence,I could never shop there,I hate big department stores too,and try to avoid them at sales,dh hates them too,and only shops in boutiques.

hope your ds is having/ had a good time Smile

because Grin

grumpy I saw your beauties today,I wouldn't part with them any time soon either ,they are just gorgeous

dry good job, love your negotiation style. Grin

I'm so not a backpack person,even at university I didn't carry one,and I'm not about to start, now that I'm 30.

WhattoWearNow · 18/01/2014 17:22

Grumpy that is fantastic news; I am so glad they are as gorgeous in real life as they are online.
Have been browsing the Matches sale this afternoon and I saw lots of lovely things & this!!! An alternative to the rucksack perhaps (not!)

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 18/01/2014 18:32

Oooh what. That is quite....something.

Had such a lazy day here too (aside from oodles of laundry/bed changing). Currently supervising DD2 as she cooks dinner for herself and DD1 - DH and I are going next door to our lovely neighbours for dinner tonight yay, no cooking. Can't even think of what to wear, Marants a definite no-no due to the proliferation of mud atm Shock. Can you imagine getting them muddy? Shock

Dry I am in awe of your negotiating skills. I'm a cop out. Can you find me a painter and decorator please? Thank you.

shopafrolic · 18/01/2014 18:35

Sleep thanks so much for the book recommendation - it looks very useful. I've ordered for my Kindle and will have a read.

Drywhiteplease · 18/01/2014 18:36

Grumpy I have the most incredible and lovely decorator, would recommend him without a second thought, a complete perfectionist and a real gent...lives a bit far away though Sad

LinusDKD · 18/01/2014 18:47

Ooh grumpy we will need some action shots of the Marants when you wear them.

DS had a lovely day and was spoilt by everyone. Tomorrow is the party but we did have one parent and child at the door today. Shock

He was 24 h early so we invited him in for a cup of tea! Grin

santa I pinned the backpack I used at university. It looks pretty good still considering it spent most evenings in the pub.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 18/01/2014 18:57

I wonder if the impending backpack epidemic might lead to an increase in pickpocketing...?

Drywhiteplease · 18/01/2014 19:39

Maybe it's time to revive the bum bag Grumpy to keep your valuables in Grin
Right, off to cheer my friend up , taking an apple pie (still hot) and wondering whether to take my Frownies then we could all sit around with brown paper triangles stuck to our faces !!!!

Annianni · 18/01/2014 20:19

Hmm... I wonder if Dry's decorator will travel 62 miles?

Dh has been stripping the hall and stairs today, and the plaster (underneath the hideous yellow paper) is painted dark turquoise!?

So it now feels rather dark and gloomy. And looks even worse next to the orange swirly carpet than the yellow did

Dhl man is due Monday with my Frames... Might sit in the garden and wait for him... I daren't open the front door Shock :o

shopafrolic · 18/01/2014 20:33

Sounds about as good as the things we uncover here Anni
Cat bones in the chimney breast, 5 layers of dodgy floral paper dating back 150 years. I sympathise.

Annianni · 18/01/2014 20:37

Cat bones??? :o

BrandyAlexander · 18/01/2014 20:40

Shock At cat bones!

MarshaBrady · 18/01/2014 20:40

I remember a friend had a Furla back pack in the 90s. She used to wear it every where.

Santa ha! Love the sound of it. Going to do my spring recce soon!

Just had my first swimming pool party for ds2. Quite funny, at first I though ha like the sr but in bikini (I don't even have a one piece) but it was pretty good. Thankfully the water was bath-warm.
