Mulberry Daria hobo or Louis Vuitton Neverfull??

My lovely DP is offering a new bag for Christmas.. This will be a long-term "keep" bag and something I'd like to get a lot of use out of. My initial thoughts were the LV for work, travel etc but I do love the M one too ... Any thoughts to help me decide??

Can you link to the bags? I've never seen either of them so can't comment

Allthingsprettyreturns · 11/12/2013 17:17

LV

I have some mulbs and as much as I love them I think I would get the LV if the only Mulb was a Daria. I personally hate the bling of he Daria wifh the big,and much copied, plaque.

I would say the LV will never date which wont be the case for the Daria. The LV might have a better return on the money spent should you have to see it gor some reason.

If you still want a Daria save up gradually and buy at an outlet after getting the LV as a present.

A lovely dilemma to have.

Allthingsprettyreturns · 11/12/2013 17:18

I meant sell obviously

I'd go for the mulberry or a different Louis & that one is copied to death!

OneLittleLady · 11/12/2013 17:28

I have to be honest and say I'm not a big fan of either of them but if the choice were mine, out of the two I'd go for LV.

Phwooooar · 11/12/2013 17:34

The M Daria isn't the only option - just liked it. I didn't want a really heavy bag that weighs loads before anything goes in it. I'd never dream of spending this much on a bag so your input much appreciated ??

I'd go LV. Neverfull s a classic.Would not surprise me if Daria is discontinued soon as it is notably cheaper than most of Mulberry's other bags these days. Wonder if it is for the chop soon as not in keeping with new 'expensive' brand image.

RubyLovesShopping · 11/12/2013 18:44

I really like the shape and look of the Daria but detest the huge obvious branding disc. The mulberry Effie hobo is more understaed with the logo stamped into the leather. Can't stand the LV, as pp said is much copied and to me looks tacky despite how much it cost. Think about what you want is it the obvious branding because you perceive it as a status item or do you want a good quality leather bag?

Carpaccio · 11/12/2013 18:57

I'd go for LV. The quality is much better, even if you're getting the classic canvas bag.

My experience with Mulberry is that the quality is (quite frankly) terrible. Don't expect their bags to last forever - especially the newer ones are simply not made to last. I've had several bags in for repair and have had several items exchanged, most of them have not even been a year before they broke.

The Mulberry bags are also being copied - my friend has a fake Daria.

It might also be worth considering that the Mulberry sale usually starts right after Christmas both in shops and online.

eurochick · 11/12/2013 19:00

I much prefer the Mulberry.

I'm not a fan of LV. I'm surprised at some many people saying the LV won't date. I feel that the LV trend is over.

BunnyLebowski · 11/12/2013 19:01

The Mulberry.

It's not amazing but is infinitely preferable to the Louis Vuitton one. LV bags are fugly and tacky, no matter how much they cost.

Bambi75 · 11/12/2013 19:03

I've got the LV neverfull and love it - goes with any outfit combo and it really does fit loads in, plus you can make it bigger or smaller using the side straps. I went for the medium size (mm) which is perfect. The biggest size is actually too big I think.

TalkativeJim · 11/12/2013 19:06

Again... I SO wanted this to be in baby names...

Bambi75 · 11/12/2013 19:06

Ps don't agree that the LV is tacky. Yes, if you wear it with lots of other bling, but it can look really classy worn casually with a pair of jeans and a sweater or a black maxi dress (just 2 examples). I'm thinking more angelina jolie (google pics of her with hers to see what i mean) versus Kerry katona.

TalkativeJim · 11/12/2013 19:10

But on the subject of the bag, OP, I think I'd say the LV one too. Hope you're suitably pleased to get the expert opinion of the woman who still uses a Karrimor rucksack Grin

BunnyLebowski · 11/12/2013 19:10

Grin at Jim.

I just think they're inherently tacky because of the pattern. I dislike any clothing/accessories that are covered in a logo. It's tacky because it's designed to flaunt wealth. Plus LV has been done to death.

There are so many more beautiful and classy bags out there. a

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 11/12/2013 19:47

I don't like the lv it looks more like a beach tote than a practical everyday bag. I have the Daria in black and it's fab. Lovely soft leather nice size good handle height for going on shoulder even when big padded winter coat. I really wanted it in oak too but got the Effie. I really like the Effie but use the Daria a lot more.

Phwooooar · 11/12/2013 19:53

So no outright winner.. I have had and have older Mulberry bags before the quality deteriorated (which is what I'm hearing a lot about). I want a bag I can use everyday for work, useful for hand luggage as I travel quite a bit (which is why a friend recommended the Neverfull and I've not had a LV bag) goes with everything, and is classic/stylish I guess. Possibly that would hold a small laptop so that I don't have to lug a computer bag around. All wrapped up with style!! have the opportunity to have a fabulous bag which I would never buy myself - it's not about status.

Grin @ Jim - I have one of those too!

Any other ideas then that fit the criteria?

Bottega veneta have a lovely woven leather range def meet the criteria of being big enough, can't think what they are called, will be back with link.

Phwooooar · 11/12/2013 21:14

Thank you Ruby

OP posts:
cardamomginger · 11/12/2013 21:14

Neither. Sorry.

I agree with the critics of M as a brand. I don't liek the Daria - think it will date, it's hugely copied, and I would have thought the plaque will scratch quickly and easily.

I think the LV is also much copied and I'm not a fan of that line. I also think the handles would get grubby quite quickly - but that's just an assumption I'm making.

If I was to chose between the 2 brands, I would go for LV, but something in the Epi line, or, if you like the monogram, how about Monogram Vernis, or, Antheia?

PLEASE don't get a bench. If you want to use it for work, it'll be impossible to get in the car/get on the train/bus/tube... SO impractical Grin!
