Mulberry Daria hobo or Louis Vuitton Neverfull??

My lovely DP is offering a new bag for Christmas.. This will be a long-term "keep" bag and something I'd like to get a lot of use out of. My initial thoughts were the LV for work, travel etc but I do love the M one too ... Any thoughts to help me decide??

BTW, nice DP!

cardamomginger · 11/12/2013 21:16

barrister - I read that as hair shit...

blueberryboybait · 11/12/2013 21:22

Have you looked at the LV pallas? Not sure the size will be big enough but I prefer it to the Neverfull. I have just had to send my mulberry back for repair for the 3rd time and it is only 7 months old, so am very anti Mulberry, I hadn't realised how poor the quality was. I have a LV Speedy in the multi colour monogram, which I use as my general daily handbag and it looks as good as it did when I bought it 5 years ago.

Phwooooar · 11/12/2013 21:34

Thank you so much for all your thoughts.

Wink @ cardamom - agree re bench.. dovecote?

Apparently the handles on the LV age with a nice patina (bit like me I guess) not grubby (also like me).

Yes DP is being v generous and lovely which is a huge change from XH - there does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel!

Will go check out other LVs too but they seem to be much more expensive. Am finding it hard to accept a gift at this cost in the first place.

@ blue - I'm hearing this a lot re Mulberry - thank you for your input

The LV bags always look fake because they sell them on every market in the country. I'd go for something more subtle.

ShreddedHoops · 11/12/2013 22:09

I like the Neverfull but only if you're classy enough to make it look not fake iyswim! It doesn't have a zip closure does it? I wouldn't carry a laptop around in a bag without a zip closure - I was looking at the Michael Kors bags and discounted them for that reason. I have an Anya Hindmarch Huxley tote which has a zip closure, looks slick and classic but still a flashy brand if that's your thing?

RubyLovesShopping · 11/12/2013 22:28

bottega veneta these come in different shapes, sizes and colours, plenty of room for a laptop. I would love one of the woven leather hobo bags.

polyhymnia · 11/12/2013 22:35

Yes, go for something more subtle and stylish like Bottega Veneta, not the Daria with its horrible bling flash 'gold' disc or the done to death Louis Vuitton. Both look like something you'd get from street sellers in touristy parts of Rome, Venice etc.

If you're spending that money opt for a classy choice.

cardamomginger · 11/12/2013 23:06

How about an Anya Hindmarch? Tory Burch? Michael Kors have similar things to the LV in terms of shape and style. Marc Jacobs?? Coach might not be luxe enough for what you are looking for.

Phwooooar · 11/12/2013 23:08

Love that Bottega Ruby but it's far too expensive.

@ ShreddedHoops yes, I am classy enough! ikwym.

I'll look at the Anya too

Saw this thread in active and my first thought was someone is having a laugh about baby names....... must read topic before judging in future

Phwooooar · 11/12/2013 23:41

Ha! Love Louis Vuitton Neverfull for a baby!

Eek I just looked on the Anya website and the current version of the Huxley tote is £995, I paid less than half that from Bicester. So whatever brand or bag you decide, do check outlet prices too!

polyhymnia · 11/12/2013 23:50

Like Anya Hindmarch - particularly the zip ones.

Loathe Kors - so vulgar and blingy - only bearable one is the Jetset and I'deven take the tag off that!

ABitterPIL · 11/12/2013 23:52

I quite like Mulberry Daria for a girl myself...

Dumpylump · 12/12/2013 00:03

I have Neverfull and love it. The handles and side straps have softened and darkened with use, and are now a lovely rich colour. It doesn't have a zip fastening, but you can draw the side straps in, and it has a centred catch that would stop a laptop or file from falling, or being lifted out. Mine is the medium size - same as a pp, I felt the large was just too big.
I don't like all LV bags, but Neverfull is lovely Smile

Chottie · 12/12/2013 05:49

Mulberry - it is more classic and versatile IMO.

buttercrumble · 12/12/2013 07:03

That disk on the mulberry looks horrible , I would go for the LV . I have the Lockit LV and it still looks in excellent nic after 6 years Smile

BecauseIsaidS0 · 12/12/2013 07:10

If going for LV, I much prefer the soft leather ones. I have one and it is holding up rather well, plus it is not heavy at all:

Finally found mine (but mine is burgundy). Man, their website is shite.

Bambi75 · 12/12/2013 09:32

What about this - classic, luxury brand but not too blingy, zip closing, multiple ways to carry it, colour goes with everything and nice change from brown or black

Having lived in Asia, the LV bag looks done to death & I'd only consider paying twenty five quid for it! Mulberry's been done too and, I believe, has pulled manufacturing out of China 'cause of the grade A copies so, with this in mind, I'd only pay 80 quid max for it.

With all this taken into considerations (of fakes, real good fake, back of a lorry (or factory, if you're in China)) I'd consider buying a dated & on sale bag from LV or Mulberry.
