If you get your hair coloured at a salon how much do you pay?

Nosey thread really.

Since having ds I find doing my hair colour at home such an incredible faff I was just wondering how much I might be looking at to get it done at a salon.

I'm wanting an all over colour I think. I'm going quite grey so probably mid brown ish.

I know the easy answer is to go and ask but wanted a ball park idea on a Sunday night!

Thanks.

it probably depends where you live. I used to pay about £60 for a cut and colour but now colour at home

Fairylea · 08/12/2013 22:04

Thanks for the reply.

I guess it is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question.

I would colour at home but by the time I have a chance to do it at night when toddler ds is in bed and not in danger of fiddling with anything I am shattered so would be nice to have to organise someone to babysit and for me to get it done somewhere else.. and no cleaning bathroom up afterwards either. Hmm.

I pay £75 for cut and highlights - nottingham.

varigatedivy · 08/12/2013 22:06

About £130.
Almost £100 for half head highlights and then £30 ish for blow dry. Cut is more of course. But only need it doing once a year as colour very close to my own.

frankietwospots · 08/12/2013 22:09

I pay £40 for an Aveda colour plus £35 for cut and blow dry.

mumblechum1 · 08/12/2013 22:10

£125 for a cut and highlights.

MarshaBrady · 08/12/2013 22:12

£130 for half head highlights. £60 to £80 on cut, depending on how I'm feeling and on the stylist I choose.

bunnymother · 08/12/2013 22:13

£130 for foils (2 shades of blonde: cool and warm) and a cut. This is in London and I understand this is v reasonable.

feckawwf · 08/12/2013 22:14

Totally depends where you live, £40 for me for full head of highlights and cut and blow dry....think that seems pretty cheap compared to others Grin

amistillsexy · 08/12/2013 22:14

I'm going to be paying £81 next weekend when I have a half head of highlights (foils) and a cut/blow.
I'm sure if the colour is all over, it'll be cheaper though, surely?

BettyBotter · 08/12/2013 22:14

Can I ask why exactly do people pay to get their hair coloured when they can do it for under a tenner at home?

I've done both but have noticed no difference at all in the quality of the colour or length it lasted

PerditaXDream · 08/12/2013 22:15

£80 for colour and cut in Bristol. Might be more for a completely new consultation: I am a regular so it's the same each time.

bunnymother · 08/12/2013 22:16

I can't paint 2 shades of blonde into fine sections of my hair. Nor can I mix the right shades of blonde. So i go to a salon.

MarshaBrady · 08/12/2013 22:17

I couldn't do what they do with those foil things at home. Not all the hair is dyed.

TheCricketWidow · 08/12/2013 22:20

I pay £65 for a cut and full head colour..i know that the salon i go to is more expensive than others in my area but its not expensive compared to other posters here. I could do it at home, but its actually the only thing that i set money aside for myself and the only real 'me' time i get so i dont begrudge it all.

BettyBotter · 08/12/2013 22:21

Yes, I can see the point if it's highlights/ foils etc, but for just an all over cover the greys job? Don't geddit.

PatTheHammer · 08/12/2013 22:24

£46 for half head of highlights, cut and finish.
I have paid as much as £90 when I had no children and went to a branded salon.

Workberk · 08/12/2013 22:48

Between 65 and 120 for full head highlights and cut, depending on where I go.

I used to do all over colour at home but it always looked pretty terrible.

BackforGood · 08/12/2013 22:56

£20 - £25 for a full head of highlights, cut and blow dry (and generally a trim for the dc whilst they are 'taking'.

My hairdresser was my 'mobile' but has now moved to a salon, but doesn't seem to have caught up with salon prices Grin

PerditaXDream · 08/12/2013 23:02

Why don't I do it at home? Pure and simple, it's just not as good. I've been colouring my hair for the best part of 30 years and have tried henna, all manner of rainbow colours on home highlighted hair, whole head colour in various shades both permanent and semi permanent.

The salon does it best, for consistent results that still look good after 6 weeks. And it's a morning to myself doing something for me, which is nice. Cos I's wurf it, innit?

Heathcliff27 · 08/12/2013 23:02

£90 for 2 colours cut and blow dry one of the colours with foils. I have long thick hair, depends on length of hair here too. I have coloured my hair at home when doing a plain all over colour but as have long hair I always manage to miss a stripe at the back.

"Can I ask why exactly do people pay to get their hair coloured when they can do it for under a tenner at home?"

Because I can't do it myself. I can't see the top or the back of my head. It makes a right old mess of the bathroom. Is that good enough?

I pay £47.50 for colour, cut and blow dry in a small market town. My eyes are watering at the prices some of you pay.

Minshu · 08/12/2013 23:16

£45 for full head colour, cut & blow dry, a couple of cups of tea and a bit of chat, mixed with quiet time reading trashy magazines. No cleaning of bathroom afterwards and not even having to wash up my mug Grin

TSSDNCOP · 08/12/2013 23:22

£140 half head, £55 cut.

Tony & Guy.

Would pay double as it looks fantastic. They should pay me for recommendations Xmas Grin
