Can anyone diagnose my 'colours'?
I thought I was a winter but I tried on a couple of 'winter colours' today and looked hideous.
My eyes are a greeny-grey colour, lips very pink, not sure about my skin tone. V dark hair with white highlights

I need a new wardrobe for starting back at work but am just getting fed up with looking as the colours I think will suit me don't!

(Excuse the photo - I don't have any clear ones of my face so it's a post shower/wet hair/not quite finished doing my make up picture.)

Well you look primary cool and there is contrast to your colouring so initial impression would be a winter of some sort but looking again you are pink toned with cool eyes so I'm thinking a cool summer- that is the deepest summer bordering winter.

What colours do you loathe on you? Is navy better than black?

SteppedOnaFrog · 15/10/2013 19:47

primarily

amistillsexy · 15/10/2013 19:50

Oh I think I'm very similar in colouring to you, OP. Mind if I listen in? Grin

Which colours are 'cool summer', Stepped?

ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 19:50

That's really interesting steppedonafrog (and thanks for replying!)

I hadn't even considered summer or spring colours because of my dark hair.
Navy and black both look ok - not amazing but ok. I think navy looks slightly better though.
Is there a website I can look at the 'cool summer' colours?

How do you feel in these shades?

Of course not amistillsexy (I'm sure you are, with that colouring! Wink )
Have you been having difficulty working your colours out too?

OP posts:
ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 19:55

I'm more drawn to the darker colours.

Things like beige, certain greys and a lot of lighter colours tend to wash me out.
There are no oranges which is good as that's probably the most awful colour on me!

QueenCadbury · 15/10/2013 19:56

Don't be guided by your hair. I'm blonde so always thought I'd be a summer but I'm a winter.

QueenCadbury · 15/10/2013 19:57

Meant to ask which winter colours did you try?

SteppedOnaFrog · 15/10/2013 19:58

Cool summer is called true summer in sci/art system.

Google Elea Blake pinterest to see other palettes- that might help you close in on what works. This is where I have found the above palette.

It is worth looking at true winter in the sci/art- it is less bright than some other winter palettes.

spookyspoonrulestheworld · 15/10/2013 19:58

Oooh, you're very pretty! You remind me of (young) Courtney Cox.

I dunno about colours though, not my speciality!

SteppedOnaFrog · 15/10/2013 19:59

What are your best colours?

ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 20:01

I tried an emerald green, hot pink, burgundy/dark reddish purple. All looked awful.

I also always get drawn to red colours but they look horrendous on me too.

ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 20:06

Ah you're very kind spookyspoon Blush

Thanks for the Pinterest thing, stepped, I'll have a look later.

As for colours that suit me, that's quite tricky.

Navy, very dark green, taupe, black looks ok, turquoise, purple/indigo.

SteppedOnaFrog · 15/10/2013 20:12

From what you are saying you sound cool but soft so need your colours greyed down-so explore the soft/true summer palettes. You may go the other way and need your colours blackened so deep winter may be your best fit.

If you wear lipstick what colours to you wear?

Have a look on pinterest under true summer etc to see how people put these colours together in a workable way and see if it resonates with you.

HTH.

Twinklestein · 15/10/2013 20:13

Try paler versions of those colours - your skin is quite pale - mint green, pale pink, ice blue (strong primary colours tend to overpower pale skin) & then at the other end - greys, blacks, dark blue. You've got a very classic Celtic colouring: light skin, dark hair, and while you say your eyes are green/grey they have bluey tints in the photo.

In fact, you look like a friend of mine (big compliment - she was a model).

Sorry, ^^ that was a reply to this:

Okay just read your last post- you sound more dark winter now.

However you do get very dark haired clear/bright Springs so worth consideration and they wear black well with another contrasting colour, like turquoise although there is a lot of hot pink in that palette.

ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 20:21

I think you're right about them needing to be 'softened'.

My 'go to' lip colour is absolute plum which looks like a slightly darker version of my natural colour.

Thanks for taking the time to do this for me! Thanks

OP posts:
SteppedOnaFrog · 15/10/2013 20:25

I'd go with cool/true summer. Maybe you have felt colours have needed something less bright about them but have gone darker instead of softer IYSWIM. So back to first impression from me.

You're most welcome.

SteppedOnaFrog · 15/10/2013 20:26

Trip trap- sure I'll join in and try and help narrow it down x

ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 20:28

Thanks for the compliments Blush

I hardly ever try paler/muted colours for some reason but I will give that a go (I'll try anything to improve the agony of clothes shopping!).
I've been shopping three times recently and come home with nothing each time so I must be able to improve on that!
