Can anyone diagnose my 'colours'?
I thought I was a winter but I tried on a couple of 'winter colours' today and looked hideous.
My eyes are a greeny-grey colour, lips very pink, not sure about my skin tone. V dark hair with white highlights

I need a new wardrobe for starting back at work but am just getting fed up with looking as the colours I think will suit me don't!

(Excuse the photo - I don't have any clear ones of my face so it's a post shower/wet hair/not quite finished doing my make up picture.)

I have no idea. But you girl, are a stunner! V Rachel Weitzesque.

lougle · 15/10/2013 20:33

Your picture reminded me of Kate Winslet

She's a 'clear spring' apparently.

Twinklestein · 15/10/2013 20:34

You're so pretty OP you should enjoy shopping!

Do you ever go with a friend & get them to pick out stuff for you?

Sometimes it's good to step out of your comfort zone & try things that you wouldn't think of yourself...

ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 20:42

Twinklestein - I love clothes/fashion etc. but have 3 DC under 5 (youngest is 9 months old) so clothes shopping's been a bit of a chore to be honest.

Body's just got back to a good size/shape (although a bit too booby) and I'm looking forward to getting some new things.
My friend who used to help me with these things has moved abroad (very inconsiderate) so there's a vacancy!

The muted colours will definitely be a step out of my comfort zone. Must also step away from the black!

Have you thought about just going into topshop or h&m and trying on a stack of plain t-shirts in different colours?

If you make a note of the colours that suit you, you could probably match them to a colour palette from the web to get a rough idea.

I had my colours done years ago with a couple of mates, and it was really worth it. I still make mistakes, but not colour ones. If you can afford to get your colours done, I really think it would pay for itself

Specialbrew · 15/10/2013 20:44

I forgot to say you look great!

ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 20:46

Just checked that Pinterest page (it's awesome) and I think cool summer is spot on!

OP posts:
ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 20:48

I know it sounds silly specialbrew but I tried somehing like that and although I could see what looked terrible I struggled to work out what looked good! Definitely helped me to get another person's view.

It's a cliche but it might be a good idea to just start with some scarfs/cotton snood things. It's cheap, will lift your clothes that might not be your best and you can see if you feel comfortable in greyed down shades and what they do for your skin tone.

Another good website is 'truth is beauty lipstick drape'. There are lists there against each season which might help to identify your tone.

Apparently there are new 'colour categories'.

You look like the new 'soft winter' to me.

edging · 15/10/2013 20:57

Oh yes and you are VERY pretty Smile

edging · 15/10/2013 21:03

Or maybe just a standard 'winter'.

You look to me like you have the same colouring as the winters I usually see used as examples. You can see a few in the link in my last post.

Either way I think you are a 'winter'.

charitygirl · 15/10/2013 21:04

Listen to travelincolour! Christmas is coming - ask people to pay/chip in for colour analysis. You won't regret it and you'll have fun.

You're so pretty - you will look incredible in your right colours.

In the meantime, the Kettlewell site is a fun place to browse the different palettes.

SteppedOnaFrog · 15/10/2013 21:08

It is possible to get a sense from a photo IMVHO in conjunction with what an OP knows works for them.

It is especially helpful when you get an overview from polyvore/pinterest of the palettes and see where the colours you know look good fit within these online resources and thereafter what else fits together.

From the many systems I have explored there have been many I think the most helpful thing is to identify whether you are cool, warm, soft, deep, clear or light first and then explore sci/art accordingly to add more meat to the bones, as it were!!! Grin

ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 21:09

Grin travelincolour I'd love to go for a consultation and if you happen to be near me and don't mind DS2 coming along for the ride . . .

Knowing that gold tones and mustard/orange are the worst colours for me presumably I can rule out some of the seasons?

Edging - that's a really good blog. The photos make it look really clear. The bit about red lipstick was interesting as I always thought it'd suit me but it totally dominates my face and looks 'wrong'.

You're all being very lovely I'll be on to ask about my body shape next :)

Badvoc · 15/10/2013 21:11

I am going to do this...ask for an analysis as an Xmas gift.
I am so fed up of having no bloody clue what suits me.
I am 41 fgs!
If they say I have to wear pink I will cry.
That is all.

ygritte · 15/10/2013 21:14

Check out the cool summer on The Chic Fashionista for some colours you might find you have lots of already.
There is a new summer category but I can't remember from which site and it is for darker-haired people (thinking it may have been Katie Holmes as an example?)
Try MAC plumful for an everyday plum. The essie button site I think shows its true colour best as Temptalia and Make-up Alley make it seem very pink.

I am, of course, guessing at your colouring as I have the same (and have never been done properly). So I could be wrong with both!

Nusatenggara · 15/10/2013 21:14

I can't imagine looking in the mirror and seeing that face look back at me - you are stunning! The world must seem very different when you look like that .

SteppedOnaFrog · 15/10/2013 21:15

Bung a picture on here and we'll save you best part of a hundred quid....

Grin
SteppedOnaFrog · 15/10/2013 21:16

ygritte- you mean soft summer deep as a new category- they wear the deepest soft summer colours.

ygritte · 15/10/2013 21:19

Yes, it seems I need professional help. The new category I was thinking of was soft winter!

DisappointedHorse · 15/10/2013 21:19

OP I have similar colouring to you but dark blue eyes and my colour obsessed SIL has diagnosed me as a deep soft summer.

Actually, the grey toned colours on me I really like. it was a revelation after years of being drawn to sludge!

ViviDeBOOvoir · 15/10/2013 21:24

I know what you mean badvoc. I'm mid 30s love clothes and fashion but have no clue how to dress myself.

Figure that one out!
Doesn't help that my shape/hair colour etc seems to have erm, 'evolved' over the years shall we say? Grin

When I looked at the true summer colours there are quite a few that do suit me on there. The others, I haven't tried. Will have a look at the 'new' category too.
