Best high street skinny jeans

Hi all, I need a new pair of black skinny jeans, but I don't want to spend more than about £40 max. What's the best high street brand? I've tried Top Shop Baxters but they kind of fall off my hips and have faded a lot. Dorothy Perkins ones were great but have gone very saggy and faded and Next ones seem a bit too high waisted.

Any recommendations? I'm an apple shape if it makes a difference.

I was pleasantly surprised at the range in New Look. I'm well into my 40s but found some very nice skinnies at around £20.

Good idea - didn't think to try there. Thanks!

Primark jeans are great, they do bag after 5 months of almost continuous wear but for £10 they cannot be beaten IMO.

eurochick · 11/10/2013 11:16

I like Oasis Cherries. I have a couple of pairs.

Thanks. Will check out Primark too. Am a bit wary of how quickly the cheaper brands might bag. My Dorothy Perkins ones were great but are a bit off a mess now. In fairness I've had them about 18 months though.

i like new look too and they do a whole range of colours

Mumof3girlys · 11/10/2013 11:22

Topshop Leigh Skinnys, perfect really soft so comfy to wear a lot of stretch in them to..... I love them

ConfusedDotty · 11/10/2013 11:27

Miss Selfridge jeans are great and they fit me perfectly. I was gonna try the Warehouse ones too.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 11/10/2013 11:28

Primark skinny jeans don't have much 'give' in them, so they don't get baggy after 2 hours of wearing, unlike a lot of others. However, they're not really very skinny on the leg. The jeggings are a bit better (and only £7!), but still a bit loose on the leg.

DD has the Primark (I think Engineered jeans) and they have some new skinnies in.
Higher waist "lift -your-bum" ones .

twittergirl · 11/10/2013 12:26

Thanks all for the recommendations. There are some options in there that hadn't even occurred to me. Will check them all out!

Peacocks are still doing skinnies in a range of colours AFAIK. I find them a great fit (though you might have to go down a size from your usual one to get a truly 'skinny' look), and they're only £16 so you can buy a few colours Smile

Zara & Mango x

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/10/2013 12:33

I've got topshop Leigh and Baxter.

Primark are meant to be good.

PrimalLass · 11/10/2013 12:35

Next relaxed skinnier are my favourite.

wasabipeanut · 11/10/2013 12:36

I second Peacocks. I'd been after some decent black skinnies after ones from Warehouse looked crap after 3 washes. Peacocks less than half the price and look fab on me - all day. Haven't faded and keep shape really well.

I was surprised but happily so. Cheap ain't always bad.

PrimalLass · 11/10/2013 12:36

Relaxed skinnies.

sara11272 · 11/10/2013 12:41

I love gap premium skinnies - now proud owner of 6 pairs! From the outlet shops they're about £20 a pair - they last well and come in various colours.

Good luck with your search!

MissScatterbrain · 11/10/2013 12:46

For non baggy jeans, look for a high percentage of cotton denim - the more elastane there is, the baggier these are likely to become.

Floralnomad · 11/10/2013 12:50

I live in a selection of Primark skinnies, they are such good value its amazing ,they also wash really nicely and come in some great colours .

angelinajelly · 11/10/2013 12:54

I like New Look. I reckon cheap is definitely the way to go with skinnies, I've tried on loads of more expensive brands and they still make my legs look like parsnips, so I don't see the point.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/10/2013 13:52

If you use vinegar instead of fabric softener on clothes containing elastane/Lycra/spandex they last longer.

Fabric softener degrades elastic but I forget how.

noddyholder · 11/10/2013 13:55

Primark here too.

MsQueenie · 11/10/2013 14:00

Primark jeans...
Does anyone else find that the zips are constantly "flying low" or do I just have a duff pair?

BearPear · 11/10/2013 16:17

Mine are from Fat Face, worn them all summer & not baggy yet.
