Best high street skinny jeans

Hi all, I need a new pair of black skinny jeans, but I don't want to spend more than about £40 max. What's the best high street brand? I've tried Top Shop Baxters but they kind of fall off my hips and have faded a lot. Dorothy Perkins ones were great but have gone very saggy and faded and Next ones seem a bit too high waisted.

Any recommendations? I'm an apple shape if it makes a difference.

I live in my Tesco skinnies despite having tried loads of more expensive versions... I had a style consultation the other week and the lady said my jeans were perfect! I think i'm going to have a look in Primark though, having read other posts on this thread.

Does anyone have the problem of skinnies falling down all the time though? I hate it but the only thing that works for me is wearing one of those belly-buster style vests. Not only does it hold my tummy in, it keeps the jeans up!

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 11/10/2013 19:24

I have some topshop skinny jeans that I've given up wearing because I have to keep hoiking them up after about an hour of wearing them. They're not really very 'skinny' either.

KeepYourEyesPeeled · 11/10/2013 19:53

Another vote for gap. I've just bought a black pair from the outlet shop . Fab and skinny to ankle .

Primark are good too .

soneliz · 11/10/2013 20:17

Yes MsQueenie...and I thought it was just me! I am forever pulling up the zips on my jeans from Primark.

Mumelie · 11/10/2013 22:21

new look super soft skinnies every time Grin

Rattitude · 12/10/2013 18:40

I have got some Gap high rise skinnies and they get baggy around my arse after about one hour of wearing them.

I recently got a pair of the straight Sculpt and Lift jeans from M&S (£35) and I have found them great, miraculous even on my flat arse. I was so pleased that I even bought a second pair.

They also have the skinny Sculpt and Lift version but to be honest, the straight pair is pretty skinny enough... for me anyway.

Thanks so much! I never expected to get so many replies! I ended up getting a pair in New Look for 9.99. Bargain! I don't know how long they will last but for that price it hardly matters!

How does the sizing come up? I'm an 8 in karen millen which is supposedly cut small but I'm wearing a topshop pair in a 12 Confused

Good to know they last well! Agree they are true to size.

New Look jeans are great. My only complaint is the itchy labels that they sew into the back. I always have to cut them out. The black jeans are prone to fading quickly, but aside from that they are my no 1 choice.

AngelaBrown · 16/10/2013 15:01

I love the Next skinny jeans with the lift and shape feature, a bit more money but really worth it! www.next.co.uk/G49114s4#764233G49

MeAndMySpoon · 16/10/2013 15:55

I used to swear by the Sainsbury Gok skinnies but they seem to have stopped doing them. Sad They do require hoiking though, but most jeans do on me - if they're on the small side my muffin top pushes them down, if they fit my bum then they're probably too large round my waist! I have a really attractive elasticated snake belt to keep them up. Which nobody can see...

cheapskatemum · 16/10/2013 16:59

Where did you get your snake belt M&MS? I'm forever on the look out for elasticated, rather than leather belts. Apologies for thread hijack.

BananaThePoet · 16/10/2013 17:10

Keep an eye out for Lidl jeggings. Had mine for two years and they still look like new.

MrsKoala · 16/10/2013 17:20

Can i ask you devoted 'skinnies' a question - I can't find skinny jeans to go over my calves Blush so the crotch is always low as my calves prevent the legs being pulled up properly. When i sit down they get pulled down even more, so no matter how high waisted they are, they sit on my hips low and i then get a massive post baby belly overspill. I've bought Gap and New Look and altho only a 12-14 usually, i need a 16 and they still are really tight on the calves and never reach my ankles so look more like peddle pushers (i am 5ft 10in). So am i just not made for skinny jeans? I am also quite ample of thigh which doesn't help. And i have size 8 feet so my feet look enormous flapping about on the end of a tapered trouser.

But apart from bootcut i can't find anything else. No other style looks good either.

DesperateHousewife21 · 16/10/2013 17:34

MrsKoala- what about boyfriend jeans? V comfy although more casual than skinny jeans.

MrsKoala · 16/10/2013 18:01

They look ridiculous unfortunately Desperate, i need shape and because my thighs are my biggest part so i don't want anything baggy or straight which will hang down. They also bunch up in the vajynkle region. I dress quite smart so they don't really go with my tailored 'look'.

Energumene · 16/10/2013 22:42

MrsKoala, sounds like we're a similar shape. Try the Next hi-rise slim leg jeans. Don't tend to pull down, and just nice and slim without cutting off circulation to your calves.

rockpink · 16/10/2013 23:07

Any of those good for tall girls?

MrsKoala · 17/10/2013 06:19

Cheers Energu. i'll give them a go.

whataboutbob · 17/10/2013 09:20

Uniqlo. - good range of colours, good quality fabric, about £ 20 but looks more expensive. Owned by the same people who own Comptoir des Cotonniers and IMO often the products are as good as.

Mouseface · 17/10/2013 12:00

New Look Supersoft Skinnies 100% in this house. DD is 14 and I'm 38. I wear a 10, she's a 12. They are soooooooooooo lush, wash great, don't fade and have some gorgeous autumn colours in just now.... olive greens, burgundy, deep cherry red, black and dark blue, navy too of course.

Little tip - wash all your jeans together and don't put fabric softener in, or just a drop. Your jeans will last longer, hold their shape better, I'd also try and dry our jeans over the banister hung above a radiator, I find the tumble dryer wrecks my jeans. :)

Jan0204 · 04/12/2013 19:23

Hi

I wanted a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans in tall as I am about 33 inch inside leg (5ft 9in tall) and I fell in love with Top Shop Joni jeans - they are so soft and stretchy they feel like a second skin and are plenty long enough. They make you feel sexy!

Lambzig · 04/12/2013 19:33

Uniqlo are great, lots of colours, wash well and don't go baggy
