DH says my skirt looks like I'm 'someone over 50 trying to looks young'

I'm 31 Confused is he right?

It's similar to that link (only no fancy cutting of material at the side like that one and mine's a tad shorter)and I'm wearing it with thick tights, flat boots and a v neck blue cashmere top. He's made me doubt myself now as I've had it in the back of the cupboard for a few years but haven't worn it very much at all and am having a bit of a wardrobe crisis in general (I feel too old for the yoof clothes but not old enough for my granny knits and struggle to know what style is mine anymore after losing alot of weight and things hang differently)

The skirt is OK, but everything else the model is wearing looks shite.

Would wear it close-fitting merino jumper in a dark colour. Thick black tights, flat brown or black ankle boots. Hang on, I see that's what you're wearing.

I think this skirt can be worn well or badly at any age.
But then I'm in my late 50s. What do I know? :o

Your DH is ungallant and a know-nothing.

peasandlove · 30/09/2013 09:21

that skirt doesnt even look good on the model.

MrsBucketxx · 30/09/2013 09:30

The skirt isnt a good choice overall a bit frumpy.

Up cycle into a tote?

I'm never quite sure about denim skirts. They sort of say, "Look I'm not in jeans but I am but I'm not".

snowlie · 30/09/2013 10:00

Think the problem with the OPs skirt is that it's too long and the styling is all wrong. I think you need to take MN fashion advice with a pinch of salt - having seen what some of the more opinionated people on the S&B threads link to, I know we don't share the same taste and quite a few people can only style themselves...they can't think beyond that.

hes telling the truth sister. Sorry

Flo56 · 30/09/2013 12:00

I'm over 50 so I've had a few denim skirts in my time! The only one I still wear is a pencil shape and very fitted. I wouldn't wear the one in the link, not any more.
I don't think it's the denim as such that's the problem and it's certainly not your age, op. It's more the jeans-style pockets and the front zip and the fake fading - I don't hate it but I just think it looks a bit tired. If you've lost a lot of weight you could do with something more wow than this.

Reastie · 30/09/2013 14:14

OK OK, re: the weight loss. I have lost alot of weight but I am in no means slim, I'm now a size 14 (was a tight size 22), so it's not like I have an amazing figure to show off!

MrsBuckets a tote? What a fab idea!
