I'm 31 Confused is he right?

It's similar to that link (only no fancy cutting of material at the side like that one and mine's a tad shorter)and I'm wearing it with thick tights, flat boots and a v neck blue cashmere top. He's made me doubt myself now as I've had it in the back of the cupboard for a few years but haven't worn it very much at all and am having a bit of a wardrobe crisis in general (I feel too old for the yoof clothes but not old enough for my granny knits and struggle to know what style is mine anymore after losing alot of weight and things hang differently)

You don't need Gok, you need ebay Wink

Reastie · 29/09/2013 13:51

:) I'm just a bit wary of buying stuff on ebay with the postage charges and not being sure if it'll fit or not.

I'm George's mummy. :)

Amrapaali · 29/09/2013 13:58

Are pencil denim skirts ok? With buttons? ( nervous)

Sorry to butt in, OP. Feel free to kick me out....

KneesoftheBee · 29/09/2013 14:02

I remember wearing one like Tethers linked to.

SirChenjin · 29/09/2013 14:08

I have a above the knee denim skirt that I wear in the winter time with thick tights, flat boots, and a couple of layered skinny tops - I think it looks great (but then I'm 44 and a Boden/Fat Face wearer - loud and proud!)

Reastie · 29/09/2013 14:11

Not to worry at all amrapaali

classified I panicked and thought someone in my non mn originating RL had uncovered who I really was Shock

I'm 47 and wear a denim skirt a bit like this:www.ebay.com/itm/Womans-DKNY-JEANS-BIAS-DENIM-Knee-Length-Jeans-FLARED-SKIRT-Size-2-100-Cotton-/190841496312?pt=US_CSA_WC_Skirts&hash=item2c6f0a22f8denim

But I'm an hourglass shape, and every time `i wear it, people ask me if I've lost weight (....If only!...)

I always struggle with what to wear on my feet, though - usually ballet pumps in summer and brown boots in the winter

Thants · 29/09/2013 14:39

Don't be silly. Wear you want. It's a skirt!

Twinklestein · 29/09/2013 15:12

I agree denim skirts only work as minis otherwise you look like 70s Mum.

Wouldn't wear with leggings though.

trikken · 29/09/2013 15:18

I have one like that and realised it does not look good. Will be binning mine in the next clearout I do.

BillyBanter · 29/09/2013 15:23

Wear what you want.

If you've lost weight your DH may be worried you're getting too many admiring glances! Wink

take yourself on a shopping trip and try on loads of different styles.

At 31 stick to topshop and oasis rather than jaeger or M&S.

squoosh · 29/09/2013 15:56

Obviously you should wear what you want.

But.............I must say, I hate all denim skirts. They're so unflattering, I think it's the lack of movement in the denim material. Denim minis are the worst, unless you're 15 and very slim and leggy.

dexter73 · 29/09/2013 16:13

This thread has made me want to wear my denim mini tomorrow. I think I must be a bit perverse because whenever something I like wearing is slated on MN I feel quite glad in some strange way!

squoosh · 29/09/2013 16:22

Wear it with pride Sexter!

squoosh · 29/09/2013 16:22

Ah, I meant Dexter. But hopefully your mini will turn you into a sexter (whatever that may be!).

dexter73 · 29/09/2013 16:25

I'm like the yoof and send sexts to all the lads!!

50ShadesOfMaybe · 29/09/2013 19:21

Agree with much of the above. Take the scissors to it. Make it as short as you dare. Put through the washing machine so the edge frays. And wear with opaques or woolly tights. (Anyway, that's what I'd do.)

Gracie990 · 29/09/2013 19:22

I have a skirt like that! I wear it with tight fitting long sleeved tops.

I think it looks ok for the school run, walking in the park. I'm slim though and I don't think it would be flattering if not.

tethersend · 29/09/2013 20:47

"I agree denim skirts only work as minis otherwise you look like 70s Mum."

70s mum is my ideal look Grin

bunnymother · 29/09/2013 22:07

I have a denim pencil skirt that I wore last year w high ankle boots and opaques and a black top and a leather jacket. The devil is in the detail as I think (deluded?) it actually looked good as the skirt was tight, the boots are fairly high (like Acne Star boots) and the jacket quite lovely. Christ, I sound insanely conceited! But my point is that, any things work depending on the particular details of the items and how you wear them. And even if I'm wrong, I still liked it!

Tasmania · 29/09/2013 22:22

When some people say that, it normally means that you are wearing something that someone in their 50s would have worn in their "Heyday" (and if they wore it now, it would look like they were trying to look younger - which happens quite often, particularly to those who do not follow current fashion).

That's very 80s/90s. Someone who was 30 in 1988 would be 55 now.

cocolepew · 29/09/2013 22:27

Wear want you want, don't listen to anyone (except me obviously) Wink

SundaySimmons · 29/09/2013 23:31

Good and bad

polyhymnia · 29/09/2013 23:47

I'm in the 'over 50s' category and wouldn't wear that skirt because IMHO it's frumpy and would make me actually look older, not as if trying to look younger.

I just think denim skirts are really hard to get right, except in the few cases people here have mentioned - which are mainly/all very short, with great legs Think you could do better.
