I'm 31 Confused is he right?

It's similar to that link (only no fancy cutting of material at the side like that one and mine's a tad shorter)and I'm wearing it with thick tights, flat boots and a v neck blue cashmere top. He's made me doubt myself now as I've had it in the back of the cupboard for a few years but haven't worn it very much at all and am having a bit of a wardrobe crisis in general (I feel too old for the yoof clothes but not old enough for my granny knits and struggle to know what style is mine anymore after losing alot of weight and things hang differently)

My H said that i looked like a desparate divorcee Hmm or a Loose woman( OMG) in my wax coated skinnies last year

DontmindifIdo · 29/09/2013 09:58

Denim skirts are a very very hard look to pull off without looking frumpy or muttony. Clothes that take that much effort are to be shunned IMO, i don't have time to "style" clothes in the morning, I just want to pull something on and look "pretty good for a 30-something middle class mum of two who lives outside the M25" - quite frankly, that's the best I can hope for without serious effort...

Anyway, take the sissors to it, make it short as you dare, wear with leggings, and a "I have pins to die for" attitude (even if you don't - it's the attitude that matters, not the legs).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/09/2013 09:58

Noooooooooooo - don't wear it with leggings.

BetsyBidwell · 29/09/2013 09:59

i am not sure they ever look that nice.

BetsyBidwell · 29/09/2013 09:59

when did oyu last say
" omg she looked amazing in .. leggings'?

Laleloola · 29/09/2013 10:00

Yepp, my 60 yr old slightly overweight aunt wears that, it looks very frumpy. Denim skirts can be ok but the shape and length of the one you linked to are not nice. Sorry.

Pagwatch · 29/09/2013 10:03

I'm 51 and I think those denim skirts are incredibly frumpy.

Pagwatch · 29/09/2013 10:04

Christ almighty - not really short with leggings!!

classifiedinformation · 29/09/2013 10:07

Hello, thought I'd add my tuppence worth. You look fabulous in your pics on FB and you have been amazing losing so much weight!

I reckon you need to call his bluff, tell him he is right and he should go shopping with you and buy you a whole new wardrobe! Grin

I like denim skirts like this.

I don't like the one in the OP.

littlemisswise · 29/09/2013 10:29

Do not cut it short and wear it with leggings. That looks awful on everyone!

dexter73 · 29/09/2013 10:43

Ha!! This is why I wear what I think looks nice and don't pay much attention to what is considered acceptable on MN - denim mini skirt considered frumpy but cut really short and worn with leggings is ok?!! Not likely!!

liquidstate · 29/09/2013 10:55

I agree Dexter!

I have never owned a pair of leggings.

Astitchintime I like that skirt and have one similar. Looks good with thick tights and flat boots.

Kemmo · 29/09/2013 10:59

I agree with with Dexter.

TSSDNCOP · 29/09/2013 11:04

A denim skirt should be as short as possible worn with brown legs, white tshirt and flip flops. At all other times it looks woe.

littlemisswise · 29/09/2013 11:06

I agree with Dexter too!

MmmmWhiteWine · 29/09/2013 11:09

I don't like the one you've linked to...it's too long. But I do quite like a short denim skirt with thick tights and flat boots in the winter, usually with a slouchy jumper on top and a big scarf. Have never considered I might look like an Eastern European prostitute though! Confused

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 29/09/2013 11:19

I have a denim skirt that I think looks ok. I've had many compliments on my outfit when I've worn it (although I'm wondering if maybe the compliment was more mean girls stylee)
I should also add I'm 26 so maybe in the ok category to carry it off?

Op why don't you post a pic of you wearing it so we can see I properly?

Hassled · 29/09/2013 11:27

Blimey - some of you have very forthright DHs/DPs. I don't think my DH would ever tell me I looked like Margaret from the village. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong fashion-wise. He's going to have to change his diplomatic ways.

MortifiedAdams · 29/09/2013 11:33

tss that is how I would wear one if the carbs hady found me Grin

Sorry OP, it is frumpy.

Reastie · 29/09/2013 11:43

Classifiedinformation who are you and how do you know who I am on fb?!!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/09/2013 11:44

WhiteWine - only if the tights are black opaque and the boots are black knee high!

YouHaveAGoodPoint · 29/09/2013 11:53

Ermm, I am a scared to say it but I like it. However I am nearly 50. It needs to fit well and the boots need to be long.

Reastie · 29/09/2013 12:45

I wish I had time to go shopping but with working and a toddler in tow on my days off it's a bit of a nightmare (plus all I can afford at the minute is charity shop chic or rooting in my old and middle aged wardrobe. I need Gok!
