Is there ANYTHING nice in Next?

I'm in dire need of some new clothes & have a Next account that I can use. I've not bought anything from there for ages at it all just seemed a bit meh last time I looked.

Is there anything decent in there? In particular I'm looking for black leggings with tummy covering, skinny jeans (high rise if poss) and perhaps some ankle boots & going out tops. I'm a 10/12 (well 10 in Next sizing)

It's the drabness that gets me. I cannot remember the last time Next had anything in that suited me. I look shit in black, grey and any shade of turd, flesh, and mustard which is all they seem to sell. Even if I found something, I hate the fabrics they use. They don't even attempt to use cotton or wool anymore

The stores are truly dated. Our local one was redone and looked the same afterwards.
the out of town ones are soulless temples to polyester

I bought this for my hols. Loved it -got lots of compliments. It's polyester though, but was cheap and quite lovely style.
So yes, I think there is the odd thing in there which is great. But it's not my first port of call.

I shop online. I agree the shops are poor. Most of the good stuff is online. They are selling a nice navy cashmere oranges and some wool jumpers too.
wool

cashmere

Like all shops at the moment you have to filter out a lot of crap but there are good things to be found.

..... and buying one thing a year is probably not what they would like me to do.

The last thing I bought from Next was an 'oh cock an interview tomorrow' suit when I got it confirmed at 4.30pm was at work until 5.30 and it was next or tescos.

The rest is a weird combination of frumpy and slutty as one.

No. Best thing I ever had from there was a bit of a grope with a lovely looking guy in their first ever catalogue.

Can you buy from the 'brands at next' section of the website? Includes Hobbs! Joules, Lipsy, LK Bennett...

Frumpy and slutty sums it up perfectly.

I am neither of he above! Are the items I have shown frumpy or slutty?

I think not...

Well that denim jumper looks a bit trashy to me...and surely bird prints are past it by now

You are quite disagreeable.

I don't follow fashion and couldn't give a rats. I am all about style. If I like it, it works for me.....

Not jumping on any bandwaggon here.
Like I say, I've had some nice bits in the past. I'm disappointed at the moment by the drop in quality and the designs. It's all well and good thinking people can size down but when you are a size 6 there is no size down! I'm generally a 6-8 in Topshop.
The kids stuff on the other hand is fab. Just ordered DD some more bits.

I've just realised from reading this thread that Next's vanity sizing is probably the reason I've written their clothes off as frumpy & badly fitting in the past. I just used to try on clothes in my usual size, plus maybe one up or down, & wonder why everything hung so badly.

I liked the blue & black checked dress someone linked to earlier.

Just popping back in quickly to say that the navy textured jacket has just arrived and is fab! It does amazing things to my waist and makes it look teeny, I think it is because of the little cutaways at the waist. Love it and can't wait to wear it. Total and utter bargain for £14!
Oh and I don't look like a frump or a slut.

I don't have strong feelings about Next. But I did try on their denim leggings and did not like them at all! Would definitely avoid.

I think they had some fairly nice coats in - parka type ones.

Hi,
Back to report. The black jumper is very flattering in a semi slouchy way. This jumper feels nice too and is long enough to suit wearing with skinnies or a tube skirt. Really good buy.

The slouchy bag is gorgeous. Roomy, butter soft leather and a great size. I settled for the black.

The suede brogues are great if you are wider of foot yet are tapered enough so as to not look clunky.

The scarf is beautiful, lovely soft material and very lovely pattern.

Very pleased with these items.

I'm not being disagreeable, it's what I think. That jumper would have been OK without the 3 random studs on the arms. They are what make it look trashy

I love grey, black and brown. Those who don't, what colours do you tend to wear?

SteppedOnaFrog · 30/09/2013 18:23

I pointed it out ref the material not the style in answer to a point you made.It may not be your taste but could look really nice on someone else. I haven't bought that as I like a more monochrome look.

By the way they aren't studs.

I had on their relaxed skinny jeans and a black and white stripey T-shirt with a black satin edging around the neck and a zip up the back. I wasn't slutty or frumpy thanks.

That soft V neck jumper looks really nice SteppedOnaFrog - tempted by the grey one to wear with my PU front panel leggings. What's the sizing like?
