A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.

I've done the nursery/school run today bare faced, unbrushed hair and in gym kit. I straight to our local park afterwards for a circuit class and it was fab! I realised yesterday that the big 4-0 is only 6 weeks away as I'd kind of forgotten about it now that I have the dress so some drastic action diet and excercise wise is needed. Dh has offered to pay for personal training sessions so I may take him up on that.

foxy it will be worth it in the end but I can imagine it's gong to be quite difficult doing yoga with all the noise.

dec don't think I ever said anything about the house but I'm a great believer in fate. Either the house will find you again as the other buyers will pull out or you will find something better.

ruby love both coats but I wonder how much wear you will get from the trench if you live where it's cold? It seems a lot to pay for a couple of months wear a year unless you can layer it up with warm things underneath. I wonder if coat would be a better investment?

sleep hope you survived the weekend and enjoy the gorgeous shoes. Not sure they are my dh's dream shoe. I think he'd be scared of me wearing them Grin.

LinusDKD · 23/09/2013 11:00

foxy if the weather is ok tomorrow, can you maybe do an outdoors yoga class?

Feeling closer to nature and all that. Wink

foxysocks · 23/09/2013 11:10

haha! i think that would be the least relaxing place tomorrow as they smash down walls at the back of the house linus

it's fine, we are lucky to have an extra reception room, so what was the yoga room is currently being turned into a kitchen/sitting room. they are plumbing my dishwasher, washing machine and sink unit along the back wall, we have the fridge/freezer in the corner, a set of open shelving with all the food and crockery on too. then dining table/chairs and a small sofa in there for some chilling out space. cosy! means the sitting room, which is at the front of the house and furthest from the noise, is clear (apart from a sofa that is too big to move!) so that is going to be the yoga room for the next few months. it's brill as it's so clear, when there isn't a class the children have loads of room for playing and games.

I ordered a couple of headbands from this etsy shop to keep my hair out of eyes during practice, looks like a really nice range

Oh Foxy - take yourself out, sounds stressful Sad

I did have a restful night, thanks - if any of the DC's woke up they obviously thought better of coming in to visit Hmm - and rightly so! I did have to put them all to bed in the end, though they didn't get stories. All was relatively calm this morning and all 3 made it to school on time and in one piece - a miracle. I have been to the gym, had a coffee and feel much more like myself now. Anni suggest you sit with a coffee and chill a bit too after your morning Grin.

LOL at Novice - how do you hold down such an important job GrinGrin?!

The wine thing is tomorrow night - DH gets back from NY at 9am so will probably be like a zombie, I still have no idea what I will wear but I will try and include the shoes Smile. He got the metallic blush (gold) rather than the cinnamon - do you think that's a good choice? Am now struck by indecision and of course I won't be able to swap them later!

Glad you enjoyed the circuits Queen - definitely take DH up on the personal trainer offer!

foxysocks · 23/09/2013 11:57

yes I much prefer the metallic blush sleep. good choice!

santamarianovella · 23/09/2013 13:29

ani thats a lot of drama for one morning,

foxy the end result will be worth all the discomfort, think of the amazing kitchen you will get.

liberty i did add some cheese and veggies, highly recommend it for fussy eaters.

queen yy,to your dh offer, a PT will give you faster results,

sleep glad things are better today,

marsha if you are not %100 happy with the coat ,then i think its best to take it back and get one that you like, maybe during liberty'smid-season sales?
and regarding burberry coats,i get so lost in store, and could never tell which was the one i liked, and the styling on their website or NAP,is much nicer than in store .

i did the SR today in gym gear and sans make up too,

shopafrolic · 23/09/2013 13:41

There are some gorgeous Missoni flats (including pointed toes) on Cocosa today........

Annianni · 23/09/2013 13:48

La la la fingers in ears I'm not listening Shop.
I need wardrobes!!! :o

MarshaBrady · 23/09/2013 14:03

Santa you're right about Burberry. The stores are so uninspiring compared with NaP and Cara D advert styling. I think I will take back the Sessun. I love it but the length and buttons not on full length really bugs be when I do it up. It makes it more 60s swing and I really want a classic peacoat. Wonder when the sales start.

Foxy hang in there! Doing well.

Anni dgd get the best outfits. I'm ok as long as they everything else is equal. Although very beautiful .

RubyLovesShopping · 23/09/2013 14:29

Thank you all for positive comments about the coats, the peacoat is my fave but the trench just feels more classic, this coat will be a small investment so I really need to feel it will last- is 5-10 years unrealistic??
I could barely sleep last night with thoughts of coats whirling around my head!! (Clearly have bigger things to worry about too just not at that moment)
Anni I Managed to get to a burberry store at the weekend and tried a few on but as some of you have said difficult to remember which is which when I looked them up on the website, we live in the sticks so no chance of getting back there again for a while. But have skillfully organised childcare tomorrow for a quick flit to the outlet shop, will take photos this time.
Marsha I liked the Sessun coat a lot until I checked the measurements and it would practically be around my knees.
Carrie I love the cuckmere tried one on last winter and it was soo cosy I hope you enjoy it.
Off to wake the littlest dc up ready for the school run.

santamarianovella · 23/09/2013 14:52

i think they start around mid nov marsha have no idea about liberty though, but considering you are their customer, its worth to ask about the dates,

ruby both styles are classic investments, i have a classic trench that still looks great after 7 years, and i hope my grey peacoat lasts as much,
save the pics of the styles you like on your phone and just stick to them, otherwise you will get overwhelmed.

carrie74 · 23/09/2013 15:05

Quickly as about to dash off to school run, but Aigle Cuckmere just delivered, and it's LUSH ACES,!! V v pleased Grin

Drywhiteplease · 23/09/2013 15:20

Shop you had a Dry-body-warmer moment......Grin, I wasn't around to give you a stiff talking to!

Having half an hour's sit down sans dcs with a cup of tea. Bliss. Silence. Just perched precariously on a wall to pick some impressive apples off my spindly tree.....bumper crop (only 3 last year Shock ) and v tasty too. Feel like The Good Life!!!

Sleep I blame you for my virtual spending frenzy in J Crew last night. Funny how you all agree that coat is "me".... You know my style!

Coat wise I need this for arctic northern climes but want this, appeals to my Southern softie side

Foxy I'm holding your hand to help you get through it....this time next week you can do the same for me!

Drywhiteplease · 23/09/2013 15:39

Or love boiled wool and in brown or navy ..... Cheaper, DH could buy me one for my birthday and can get 20% off at a party.

mignonette · 23/09/2013 16:30

My goodness, so much to catch up on and worried I'll miss you of you out so apologies in advance!

Dry and MrDry Well done on the jump and well done for coping w/ the anxiety of it Dry.

MrsR wise wise words- I have the mantra that it is easier to change my response to something than it is to change somebody else's behaviour. I had a cold distant Father who also lived abroad (not that I am saying that yours is cold and distantMarsha) and I never approached him about it because I knew he'd cut me off. But I should have done for my own sake. He ignored my nephew, leaving my sister distraught and was odd w/ the rest of us.

Carrie well done on the holiday and that is such a typical older child reaction. My grown children now appreciate all the travel they experienced even though they were sometimes as stick in the mud as a pair of ninety year olds. The 'highlight'? My DD tantruming upon being taken on a surprise trip to EuroDisney aged 8. She wanted to go to Derby to visit a relative instead Shock

I've been to Anna Maria Island along w/ Sanibel/Captiva. They are blissful Castaway islands. Lucky you.

Foxy I totally get it. I always hammer it home w/ DH that this kind of upheaval whether it be due to building/redesign of living space is profoundly disturbing for some people (I am one of them) and he has to allow for that. Can you find a painting/sculpture/ornament or something to place in your new room that you can focus on, something from the old room? Scent is important-find a familiar comforting scent to spray in there and dim the lights to blur the 'contours' of the room until you have acclimatised.

Ruby it is the navy wool for me. Did you see that article on how navy is the true style choice? My style crush Kate Phelan always wears simple yet beautifully cut navy pants.

Linus I have a similar snake print silk shirt that i wore to my Brothers wedding years ago (1997) still looks good. They don't date.

Sleep They are SEXY shoes. Absolutely splendid. I covet them (we need a covet icon). As Anni commented, they are like the Gucci ones from Tom Ford's time. They'd look wicked w/ a slouchy suit.

Novice You rock girl (and maybe need an assistant to sweat the small stuff?). I too am a writer of last minute stuff. I have to give the odd lecture at the local school of nursing and wing it all the time although not to over a 1000 people! Good luck although I suspect that none of your achievements are down to anything other than sheer bloody hard work. Luck doesn't come into it.

Queen personal training sounds perfect. I'd need it to get my lazy ass into action. No good at motivation. I used to facilitate the relaxation classes for patients years ago but I'd be useless at that myself. I don't do group activities well.

One How's the wounded soldier getting on Grin? I hope you are healing and doing as you are told. Flowers.

I bought some squishy cushions this weekend from Matthew Williamsons Debenhams range here and here to go w/ last years brushed velvet Chinoiserie style ones. DH sorted out one of the spare bedrooms into a better office for me to write in which was so kind of him and put in a little armchair so he can sit in there w/ me and watch TV/ paint his watercolours because I hate being shut away on my own and I can work through any amount of noise. We are having a blind made from this Marimekko Gingko fabric. I love it. Am looking for a navy/white geometric print rug to go w/ it and some pale orange/melon fabric to cover my existing chair and make cushions from.

I have another writing commission from Creative Fiction website so am very happy. I may ask you all for feedback on my drafts if that would be okay. They are very rough at the moment so it'll be some time.

I am very tempted by this Tory Burch sheepskin coat. What do you all think? too much? Worth waiting for further reductions? Another possibility is this Moschino check coat. I quite like this J Brand but the high neckline might be too hot for me. even in Winter, I find the city never feels truly cold although that may be my age.

This Westwood coat is a good bargain as it will not date.

I hope against all hope that my favourite Miu Miu coat on NAP will come onto OUtNet but i know in my heart of hearts that it will not. I may give in and shell out megabucks for what is an exquisite piece i have lost my heart to. DH keeps trying to persuade me to get it but I just cannot even though i have spent much more on a bag.

OneLittleLady · 23/09/2013 16:54

I'm good mig dutifully resting as instructed Grin

mignonette · 23/09/2013 17:25

Well done One. I'm a little sod for not doing as the Medics tell me so good for you.

Here is my new lipstick crush-Face Stockhom that also has the best website with a drop down shade chart making it easier to imagine what they look like.

I really like this parka style jacket worn by Ewa Wladymiruk in Milan. Any ideas folks about who it might be by?

LinusDKD · 23/09/2013 18:18

carrie you know we need pictures of the Cuckmere! Wink

mig that ginkgo fabric is stunning and just what we are looking for to make some cushions for our new sofa.

It's perfect in more than one way: the ginkgo was DH's grandmother's favourite tree and Marimekko is a Finnish company which also has a personal meaning.

I will have to see it IRL to be absolutely sure it's what we have been looking for but I really like it. I showed it to DH and he loves it too.

Which reminds me, I have two Marimekko nighties I bought in Finland. One of them is so long it nearly touches the ground, not very sexy but oh so cosy in winter.

LinusDKD · 23/09/2013 18:24

marimekko

Mine is red and white. Smile

LinusDKD · 23/09/2013 18:42

Oh and I LOVE that J Brand coat! The colour, the high neckline, the price, everything.

Sleepwhenidie · 23/09/2013 18:47

Ooh, I like the Jbrand coat too. It is not dissimilar to this Allsaints one, also available with fabric sleeves and a bit less £, I tried it the other day and only resisted because I had only bought the faux fur days before. It's so elegant on and done up. Lower collar Mig Wink.

Sleepwhenidie · 23/09/2013 18:50

I quite like the Tory Burch Mig, but think I would have to change the buttons! also it is still a bit £steep.

MarshaBrady · 23/09/2013 18:51

Ah Linus you are good! It's lovely.

Ruby I'm the same about purchases. Am agonising, still!, over the Sessun. Not sure which way to go. And I may have woken at 3am thinking about the Lanvin boots too after dh's comments.

And the Burberry site is just as annoying, I have no idea which coat that Cara D one is.

santamarianovella · 23/09/2013 19:52

mig the jbrand is lovely,

marsha can you contact burberry customer service and ask on behalf of us all? Grin, and your lanvin boots are lovely im thinking of buying on in black, like the concealed heel,

linus that looks super cozy!
