Operation Renovation - aka The Christmas Countdown

HelgatheHairy · 01/09/2013 07:31

It's 115 days to Christmas Eve!

You can use this thread exactly like you were using the previous thread to keep track of what you're doing, have lists, ask advice etc. As its about renovation rather than strictly beauty, nothing is off limits so beauty, clothes, exercise, healthy eating.

So here we go!

Hmmmmm. Must try harder!
Did ok for the first couple of days, but have already fallen off the wagon.
Any tips for staying motivated?

ControlGeek · 12/09/2013 08:41

Thanks vvviola, his scaly bits look like psoriasis according to dr google. He's currently using something called dairy hand cream, it's primarily salycilic acid and paraffin. It's great while he's using it, but if he stops or forgets it comes back. Manuka honey requires a second mortgage here! Will the organic apple cider vinegar get rid of it, or just treat it?

Got up really late this morning, but managed to put on some co-ordinated clothes and earrings, and oil my hair. No time for breakfast ot hot lemon water today. Another long shift, hopefully back to normal tomorrow.

Whoknowswhocares · 12/09/2013 08:43

Ooh, cross posted with Dilidali.
Maybe a restart in 4 days then. That will give me time to get my shit together organised

lucysmam · 12/09/2013 10:16

Hello all Smile

Just on my way home from the oh so exciting task of paying the council tax (in their swish new offices with a diy pay machine like asda that made my head want to pop!!). Amazing how differently people talk to you when you make a bit more effort.

Morning routines done. New lip gloss bought (and a glitter tattoo thing and face paints to do on Sunday with the girls since Sunday is stay at home day).

Meant to nip back in boots to have a look for concealer to hide black suitcases bags, but forgot so will have to wait until next week now.

Dilidali did the funny socks make your feet soft? Dp has a twenty quid amazon voucher he says I can have Grin

MAINTENANCE POST

Looks like I messed up somewhere and it's actually 103 days to Christmas not 104. So tomorrow will be 102 days to go.

Sorry about that.

lucysmam It makes a huge difference, doesn't it! People really do act differently depending on how someone looks. I know councils need to save money but you can't beat good old human interaction - those machines are a step too far in my book. My council also closed the job centre and replaced it with a telephone, computer terminal, plastic school-type chair and tiny table in the main foyer of the hub. Incredibly demoralising if you need to make a claim, as you have your interview in full sight and hearing of anyone who enters.

whoknows I came up with the great idea of taking a 'before' photo and sticking it up somewhere to remind me. Then I chickened out. Now my hair's all glammed up (well, mostly, anyway!) so not sure if it would still work Grin Lists also help, even if you only have one thing on your list!

karbea well done on your goldfish! That's a good old age. When's your hair appointment? Do we get to see the after shot? Mine's a dark mouse so the roots really show - especially when I went platinum blonde a few months ago!

ControlGeek · 12/09/2013 11:06

lucysmam I love your long posts - they make mine look positively reasonable Grin I am known on other threads for writing war & peace even when I have nothing much to say so am trying to be good here hehe

Karbea · 12/09/2013 11:22

Morning!

Back from PT, waiting for a builder to arrive whilst standing around in stinky gym clothes (not enough time to shower).
DH is now away till Sunday lunchtime, so it's a really good chance to do a detox or kick start a healthy eating plan, I've not eaten yet as before PT I was running around after him, men!
I'm out for dinner tmr night, but apart from that I can try and be super healthy.

vvviola · 12/09/2013 12:12

ControlGeek - if it is psoraisis it can't be cured as such, but you can make it "go away". Some times long term, sometimes it's more maintenance.

Depending on the severity, other things I've had success with are cocois(?) cream and "dream cream" from Lush. Nothing ever makes mine go away, but those two & the manuka honey stuff can really reduce it.

Minimal success today. Did manage moisturiser, a coordinated if very casual outfit, and 1.5L of water though, so that's not too bad.

Just finishing off a uni assignment before heading off to do my night time routine.

Karbea · 12/09/2013 12:52

I've just found Molly Kings 5 day diet in an old Zest mag, so going to try and do that. I think I could handle looking like Molly in 5 days time ;)

She has white omelettes but I'm going to have regular as eggs are good for my fertility.

Anyway, just had a red pepper omelette, need to pop to the supermarket after the hairdressers, written my list ;)

Karbea · 12/09/2013 12:55

And just taken morning vits.

ELR · 12/09/2013 19:23

karbea the colour of the nail polish is elixir 589 its reddy colour but with a pinky/brown tinge so not too bright. Looks great on fingers and toes, I've remembered to wear gloves for washing up too so not chipped yet!!
Went a bit mad today and bought a gorgeous new bag and a top from hobbs def need to reign in the spending now DH would have a heart attack if he saw the price of the bag!

Karbea · 12/09/2013 19:50

Arghhh I just spent the afternoon in the hairdressers ( really like, but much darker, might take awhile to get used to it) anyway came out starving, I'd written a healthy shopping list before I went, so went straight to the supermarket. Got all the healthy stuff and a big bar of choc, stuffed down the choc in the car as I could feel my blood sugar (lack of) was starting to make me shake. Came home cooked lovely cod and green veg, sat down to eat it, and... Wasn't hungry at all! :/

Paintyourbox · 12/09/2013 19:53

Hi everyone,

Finally feeling better! A little tired but doctor thinks I am anaemic so need to start taking iron. Hopefully I will have the energy to start exercising again tomorrow.

Today I've stuck to my diet for the first time in ages. Setting out me clothes the night before is really helping in the morning too.

Tomorrow I will start again in earnest!

JemimaMuddledUp · 12/09/2013 20:05

I'm keeping up my basic routines (eg cleansing and moisturising, whitening toothpaste, exfoliating and moisturising after shower, styling hair, putting make up on etc) but I am really tired and struggling to do much else. I'm full of cold and that is making my asthma play up, so I haven't run since Sunday Sad Luckily I have a core wardrobe of semi decent work outfits put together with accessories etc so I have been rather falling back on them as old faithfuls. I'm hoping that my bright pink print scarf is reflecting light into my face and hiding the dark shadows!

I'm doing OK with food, sticking to my calories and eating plenty of fruit and veg. I dread to think how vile I'd feel if I wasn't.

I've got a super busy weekend ahead as the DC's school is celebrating a big anniversary and I am on the PTA. It means being in front of people at several events over the course of the weekend and I really want to be looking my best. I wish I had time for a salon appointment beforehand!

Right, am off for a soak in the bath. Not particularly beautifying, more a case of Radox and my library book. But I promise I will moisturise afterwards Grin

bigkidsdidit · 12/09/2013 20:23

I finally it around to buying the soap and glory foot file from boots today, the one tht is raved about on other threads. It is incredible! One half arsed scrub of my feet for a few minutes and there was a pile of dead skin on the floor and my feet are lovely!

Also bought the soap and glory face massager that apparently increases blood flow to your face. I do look pink and glowing now Grin but who knows if it'll last.

Blueandwhitelover · 12/09/2013 20:38

tell me more about the foot file please

Karbea · 12/09/2013 20:47

I love soap and glorys body scrub, I think their products are really good.

lucysmam · 12/09/2013 21:15

Evening everyone Smile

Well, I've just re painted my nails with the silvery polish I took off the other day.....and now I need the loo!! Confused (and I have just spied eight legged movement towards the bathroom too so might wait until dp gets in if I can hold it!!!!)

Other than that, evening routine all done but am having a Wine watching shite on the box Blush

Need to work on diet and exercise a bit more really but will start that after the weekend as we have kebabs and Wine planned when dp gets in tomorrow night.

Everything's out ready for tomorrow. Have gone for black skinnies and cream fine knit again. If the weather's fine I'll swap for either my blue or pink floaty ish top with black flats.

I'm actually really enjoying this thread & taking time to sort me out, although I do feel a tad guilty spending on me when I know everyone else needs winter stuff too. But dp tells me I'm being daft & that's what he goes to work for, so I'm going to start listening.

lucysmam · 12/09/2013 21:28

Blush it would of course help if I wasn't sat here picking a strawberry pip out of my teeth with my nice new nails & got up for a toothpick Hmm
