Operation Renovation - aka The Christmas Countdown

HelgatheHairy · 01/09/2013 07:31

It's 115 days to Christmas Eve!

You can use this thread exactly like you were using the previous thread to keep track of what you're doing, have lists, ask advice etc. As its about renovation rather than strictly beauty, nothing is off limits so beauty, clothes, exercise, healthy eating.

So here we go!

OP posts:
Karbea · 11/09/2013 14:40

Vvv poor you, poor dd, hope she gets better soon.
I'm not commenting on healthy eating either!

Just walking the dog and realised I'm wearing, grey coat, cream bag, green silky top, black jeans, brown uggs. I must look like a drab version of Joseph and his amazing technicoloured dreamcoat! I need help!!!

JemimaMuddledUp · 11/09/2013 16:36

Kaiser Chiefs were amazing! But I am suffering today for being out late on a school night.

I got lots of compliments last night too about how good I was looking. And I just came back from a PTA meeting, having put on a swipe of lipstick before going in to hide how tired I am and DD's teacher from last year told me how well I was looking Grin Nothing like a few nice comments to boost the way you feel about yourself!

I use the Tresemme heat protection spray on wet or dry hair, I don't think it makes that much difference.

I used to use Lipcote way back when in the 90s, over my Rimmel Black Cherries lipstick IIRC. It dried my lips out terribly though. I use a lip pencil all over my lips and then a gloss on top as I find that lasts longer without being drying.

I have chipped the end of a fingernail (opening my tube of John Frieda Shine Shock!) and am currently wondering whether I can rescue it with a nail file or if it is a take it off and start again job.

I have booked a haircut for a week on Saturday, which will be exactly 6 weeks since my last one. Brownie points for me Grin. And I am going to book a "Lunchtime Escape" (mini facial, eyebrow wax, file and polish hands and feet) for the following Saturday.

Right, I'd better get dinner sorted before the DC's choir practice and piano lesson!

ELR · 11/09/2013 17:11

Drank water today and walked quite a bit bt other than that not many ta da's today! If this was a eat alot of crap and practice Christmas recipes before Christmas thread I'd win!
Made heaven and earth sausage and mash and cranberry and white chocolate cookies from Nigella Christmas recipes and eaten two flakes..... It's cold I blame the weather!

I did buy a new chanel nail polish from their new autumn colours which I will apply later to fingers and toes.
Will try harder tomorrow!!

Karbea · 11/09/2013 17:27

Ooo which one did you buy elr?

bigkidsdidit · 11/09/2013 17:30

For people wondering about elasticizer, I just bought in style magazine and there's a big free smple. Trying it tonight!

HelgatheHairy · 11/09/2013 18:41

lucysmam I think the cluster feeding thing is kinda constant till 6 weeks (hope it's 6 weeks anyway please no one burst my bubble!!)

vvviola hope your DD feels better soon. I don't really think I'm doing that much.

Well I'm showered this evening. Was essential as there was puke in my hair! My dermatitis is acting up a bit (it mostly flares up when I'm run down or stressed so its probably because I'm tired) so am using apple cider vinegar to try and get it under control.

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/09/2013 18:57

I'm drinking more water (yay) and not eating sweets/chocolate/biscuits (double yay) but having occasional Butterkist popcorn.

I'm finding now that I need to get up for a wee at 2am Hmm
Not impressed , I'm used to zombielike sleep.
Could be a sign of old age though Blush

ControlGeek · 11/09/2013 19:22

bigkids thanks for the tip - will look out for that as I can never resist a freebie

lucysmam what fish have you got? I'm looking for a good home for my 4ft tank - 2 large clown loach, two peppered cories and two bristle nosed catfish.

helga does apple cider vinegar work then? Dp has got some scaly bits, wonder if it might help...

Despite migraine today, and working late (still at work typing this!), I've eaten relatively healthily so far. I have had my full bikini wax done, and booked myself in for three weeks time. Drunk absolutely GALLONS of water (migraines/codeine does that to me anyway) and amazingly managed to co-ordinate my outfit into something rather nice - blue trousers, blue and white stripy top (looking a bit old and tired now mind) and blue and white anchor nautical earrings. I'm sure I had more to say but I've gone a bit blank Confused

ControlGeek · 11/09/2013 19:35

Oh, and thanks for all the lipstick tips, too! Got a money off makeup voucher at Boots at the weekend, so going to treat myself shortly. Will decide when I'm there whether to go down the lipstick/gloss/lip pencil route!

Dilidali · 11/09/2013 19:37

Hello!
Looked for a pretty tray today, but couldn't find one that I really like.
However, I bought some very strange socks, with somedort of gel inside, meant to ultra moisturise your feet. And a pair of bamboo gloves.
Tonight is pampering bath evening. I shall go to bed dressed as a mummy, sudocream facial, weird socks and MJ gloves(I plan lanoline for that one).
I am drinking more water :)
Now, to look for them vitamins :)

Karbea · 11/09/2013 19:44

I'm having my hair done tomorrow, they are going to colour it and then highlight it. Do you like this or do you think in reality it would look mousy?

ControlGeek · 11/09/2013 19:55

karbea that looks really gorgeous! When my roots grow out properly, that's the colour mine will be if I carry on using my current home dye (I'm a bit blonder at the moment). Can you show the hairdresser that photo on your phone or something, so they know the effect you are after? I think that will make a lovely autumn shade. How long is your hair?

lucysmam · 11/09/2013 20:21

ok....excuse me if I multi-post but on app & struggle to remember who has posted what sometimes....Hmm

karbea I like it! Looks really natural. Mine's a fair bit lighter and you can really see my dark roots when it starts growing out whereas I don't think they'd be too bad with that blonde.

Control I have a mish mash of my own fish - dwarf rainbows, Boesemani rainbows, silvertip tetra and neon tetra. And then a rescued pleco who I suspect to be a female sailfin but never stays put long enough to get a decent snap to compare with anything....and a bala shark....both of them were going to be flushed Angry so I've taken them in. Unfortunately they'll both have to move on or go to a properly equipped shop at some point in the near future because my 190L Trigon (as lovely as it is) just aint big enough for the both of them and my own choices Sad

lucysmam · 11/09/2013 20:23

Dilidali ....any chance of links to your funny socks and gloves? & what's the sudocrem (was it sudocrem?!) mask do?

tartiflette · 11/09/2013 20:25

Love that hair Karbea.

Am on a fast day today so it'll be a very early night! Bit of a grim day really, the guttering guys have informed us that we urgently need to re roof the front of the house. Reduces the pampering budget somewhat Hmm

lucysmam · 11/09/2013 20:31

Jemima....Envy .....glad you had a fab time though Grin !

bigkids ty for the freebie tip, haven't had a mag in ages so shall invest tomorrow on the way back from school run.

I think that's everything Grin

Now....evening routine almost done. Just hair left to dry/straighten. I had to get some heat protect spray from wilko today (middle of week-money running short) only a quid. Doesn't say what °c it protects up to but I figured something is better than nothing. Found a glass nail file in Poundland too, used to have a pricey one but don't know where it went Confused Am going to try it on the nail I caught earlier and see what it's like.

Have drunk 1.5L of water today, not as much as others but was out with dp this morning and we went for Brew while sorting bank stuff (adding me to his account and closing mine....after almost eight years together we have a joint account!). Might manage another bottle before bed.

Who was it who said about drinking more water and getting up at 2am to use the loo? I had that too the first couple of weeks of drinking more...it does settle down, I promise! I also had a really horrid headache after a couple of days. That's something to do with caffiene withdrawl Confused

Dilidali · 11/09/2013 20:32

lucysmum here they are
The gloves aren't gel, look like normal cotton ones, just made of bamboo :)

Dilidali · 11/09/2013 20:35

The sudocream facial is just sudocream, put it on before bed and remove in the morning. I like it :)

lucysmam · 11/09/2013 20:35

oooh, I think I might need me some of those! Will have a look at them and the 'other things you might like' stuff shortly when hair is done.

I never think to look on amazon....flippin' useless sometimes Grin

(My god my posts are EPIC!! If I waffle too much tell me to stfu!)

Karbea · 11/09/2013 20:46

Mine is much lighter at the mo, looks very cheap and tarty bright. Taking the picture is a great idea. I think mine is slightly shorter, but not much.
My roots are really bad, even though I am blond albeit dark blond, so I'm hoping something like that will help with the root issue.

I've two goldfish, they are 9 years old.

HelgatheHairy · 11/09/2013 21:03

controlgeek I have seborrheic dermatitis on my face and I started using ORGANIC apple cider vinegar when I was pregnant as didn't want to use my usual steroid cream. I dilute the vinegar about 1T vinegar to 3T water. It does work but is quite drying so its important to use a good moisturiser. And it HAS to be organic apple cider vinegar because that's the one that has the sediment.

OP posts:
JemimaPuddle · 11/09/2013 21:13

Thanks Jemima will put the tresemme one on mt shipping list.
No ta dahs for me today but have just got in bed for my early night :)

vvviola · 12/09/2013 02:15

Controlgeek - if you find the apple cider vinegar doesn't work, I can recommend creams with manuka honey and bee propolis. I use one for my psoraisis (also didn't want to use steroid creams when pregnant) and I find it really helps. Has to be over a certain grade/strength though, which may not be as easy to find outside NZ where they are all obsessed with manuka honey

HelgatheHairy · 12/09/2013 06:53

104 days to go

OP posts:
Dilidali · 12/09/2013 08:34

Well, I tried the funny socks last night. The gel does sooth your feet, I put them on after a hot bath. Didn't do the gloves though because I was shattered.
4 more days until I start!
