So I tried coconut oil?

I slathered my very thick, fairly long hair in the stuff. Sat feeling a bit smug about how lovely my hair was going to look for about 20 mins. So far so good. And then I tried to rinse it out.

How do you get it out? It's stuck in my hair in big greasy clumps. I've washed it twice, conditioned it, combed it. Rinsed for ages and ages. My hair is going to be so greasy tomorrow!

What did I do wrong?

Was the water warm? It should have melted very quickly

The bath water had gone cold but I rinsed it with the shower attachment which was really hot.

I've dried it now and actually it doesn't look greasy. It doesn't look any better than it did before though either.

I had the same experience - took forever to wash out and when I did my hair looked completely the same. Smells nice though.

I was expecting it to be a wonder product! I thought my frizz and dry hair would vanish. Sigh. I smell nice though

I find olive or sesame oil better as a hair treatment, I like coconut for skin moisturizing though

Maybe your hair was in fantastic condition anyway? therefore no noticeable difference? ; )

It did improve the condition of my hair - but it took three washes for the greasiness to go away, so I'm not sure I would try it again.

Similar here, but my hair is in good condition, just flyaway. I'm never going to try it again. I swear by Jasmine and Henna Fluff Ease mask by Lush for mine now, makes it feel lovely and silky.

I do oil pulling with coconut oil, and it is very good - basically swishing it around your mouth for 20 minutes then spitting out (into a bin, not the sink).

When you wash it off you need to out shampoo directly on the hair BEFORE water, lather up, shampoo twice and no conditioner.

Put not out.

Use less, I only do the ends of my hair.

I do oil pulling too Beryl but I can't bear to waste the oil so I swallow it. (I am hypothyroid and 3 tbsp of coconut oil a day is supposed to help rev up the metabolism.) I hope it's doing my gum line some good anyway!

Pom, no, don't swallow it!

The whole idea is that you are pulling out toxins and bacteria from your mouth, and wider system. If you swallow it, you are just putting the toxins back into your body.

Use a teaspoon for the oil pulling, then you could try a bullet proof coffee for the metabolism afterwards. (coffee, coconut oil and insulted butter, whizzed together. Much, much better than it sounds)

oil is like that my mil and her generation really slap the oil on not just their hair but face and entire body they swear by the stuff it's a Miracle product. Gets rid of dry skin, conditions skin, conditions hair. Improves growth of hair. Improves dense colour of hair. These aren't my claims btw lol

any oil won't come out with one wash. Don't put to much in and only on length of hair rather than up near scalp
That way if it still feels greasy it won't look greasy the next day since your hair won't be flat on your head.

also go easy with the oil don't need too much of it. I don't oil my kids hair but when i do its a few hours before their bath in the weekend. It always washes out so maybe use it a bit more sparingly?

For frizzy dry hair just dab tiny bit on fingertips and run through dry hair, leave it in the hair. If your hair is frizzy it won't look greasy. One of my girls has curly hair and it can look frizzy if disheveled, and dry.When I use coconut oil it's tamed and neat and no frizz. Plus curls are more defined.

You only need to do the ends of your hair NOT the scalp. Much easier to wash out too.
I do it monthly and didnt notice a big difference straight away but after the third ish time it started to look better.

DON'T SWALLOW WHEN OIL PULLING

The whole point is you are drawing toxins away! Swallow fresh oil if you want to but oil pulled oil is manky!

I use coconut oil on my face at night to remove my makeup - find it wonderful.

When my DD was four she had very bad psoriasis (she is now 34) and I read somewhere that coconut oil was good for treating that, so I used to melt some down and, using a pastry brush, anoint her scalp. I would leave it on for twenty minutes or so, comb through it gently and then wash it out when she had her bath. It took a while to work but, even now, when she has outbreaks she never has it in her hair.

MissPiggies, do you mean that you tend to leave the oil in your hair for a few days?
I've thought about using jojoba but never got round to ordering any, did you find it any good compared to other oils?

I generally use olive and leave it in overnight, I find coconut a bit too tricky to wash out!

I had exactly the same problem. It does make a great moisturiser for your skin though. I have always used olive oil in the past - very easy to wash out and hair looks really glossy afterwards.
