I've just bought these sandals. They're really comfortable and I think they're okay to look at. They aren't super stylish, but neither am I. I have no ambition to be cutting-edge fashionable, but I don't want to stray into 'super frump' territory. So... How ugly are they?? DH says they're awful Sad.

I think they are nice - not super stylish as you say but perfectly alright for a pair of sandals. (I am not cutting edge either!) What would he like to see you wearing out of interest?

emsyj · 11/06/2013 20:36

I have no idea! A few days ago I was talking about losing my baby weight and glamming up a bit and when I showed him these sandals he winced and said, 'Well, they're not glam like you were talking about, but you know, if you like them...' I asked him what I should wear and he said 'Oh maybe they're fine, you shouldn't listen to me'. Confused I don't think he really knows what he would like me to wear (other than tight pencil skirts and high heels - man of simple tastes - not really practical for every day).

I like them enough to be tempted but I already have some similar from TK Maxx a couple of years ago. I am by no way 'cutting edge' so may be wrong but I say if you like them, then wear them with pride!!

Iwantmybed · 11/06/2013 20:38

Almost posted but deleted didn't want to offend. They're not trendy (but then I'm not either) but if you like them then its all that matters.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 11/06/2013 20:41

They're not hideous but not the most stylish either - just run-of-the-mill, but if you're happy with them, just wear them!

emsyj · 11/06/2013 20:43

No please be honest Iwantmybed - bear in mind I am not one of those people who reads fashion blogs and co-ordinates 'outfits': my main aim each day is to wear something that does not have baby sick on it. But I do hope to become more glamorous and trendy in a few months, so I need some guidance and training in what is truly hideous...

I bought some similar to these last year and so comfy, I have had loads of compliments! are my first choice for work...enjoy them!

Smartiepants79 · 11/06/2013 20:44

I don't think they are frumpy. They are not super glam either but for daytime wear they are just fine.
The thing about 'cutting edge fashionable' is that 80% of it is stuff you will regret wearing in 5 years time.

QueenOfCats · 11/06/2013 20:46

I like them! Smile

I dread to think what you lot would say if I posted a pic of my sandals on here! Grin

AuraofDora · 11/06/2013 20:48

Did you get in brown? They are not to die for but not the horror I expected when clicking on your link. If you like them who cares? Is your othe half John Galliano? Wink

emsyj · 11/06/2013 20:48

'Run of the mill' is fine for me, I'm happy with that! Smile

I need comfortable shoes these days and these feel very comfy. I have boxes and boxes of much 'nicer' shoes that I never wear so I am trying to avoid buying stuff that looks nice but isn't wearable.

I bought these in black at the end of last summer. Also in the sale! I think they are ok, but I don't wear them much. I find them a bit heavy looking with skirts, but maybe they wouldn't look heavy in dark brown. I also find them neither high nor low, so not one thing or another. They are comfortable though, and there isn't anything really wrong with them. I just don't think they were a good buy for me. I am not cool either, by the way.

emsyj · 11/06/2013 20:49

Yes in brown Aura. I would have preferred tan but they don't come in tan.

I think they are just medium not gorgeous but I wouldn't walk past and say oh my god what has she got on get feet Smile

mumofthemonsters808 · 11/06/2013 20:52

I like them, they are the type of thing I ware, but I'm not sure that is a compliment because I have very achy painful feet that demand comfort. My sister has very normal feet and can ware any glamourous, stylish shoes she wants, there are a lot nicer styles around but they are not as ugly as your OH implies.

I actually rather like those, OP, and I am a blogger who coordinates her outfits every day.

My DH is truly baffled by my wardrobe, and most of the things I love, he hates. When we go on dates I wear tight jeans and heels, the rest of the time I dress to please myself and tell him to bugger off.

emsyj · 11/06/2013 21:19

Well I am quite heartened by the response - I had expected it to be much much worse! Grin Thanks

Just out of idle curiosity, what would be a 'glamorous' and stylish summer shoe choice?? I wouldn't know where to start with that one...

OP posts:
Annianni · 11/06/2013 21:22

I like them.

FamiliesShareGerms · 11/06/2013 21:25

They are the sort of sandals I would like to wear, but feel that I need to be ten years younger with slim tanned legs to pull off without looking frumpy.

Casmama · 11/06/2013 21:26

Sorry OP, I would describe them as a sturdy sensible shoe. I think they are very frumpy.

emsyj · 11/06/2013 21:36

What would you choose for summer that isn't frumpy Casmama? I don't think I am able to identify what counts as 'frumpy' so I would be interested to see what isn't, IYSWIM...

OP posts:
HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 11/06/2013 21:42

Well right there in the description it says they are "fashionable" so there you go. Plus the name of the style - Popple Jive - how can they not be cool?

Seriously OP I quite like them. I always wear flats so anything with a heel looks good. Besides, yes they are a bit "chunky" but that does not equal frumpy IMO.

Nivet · 11/06/2013 21:45

They are fine, I like them. Tell DH to STFU or you'll start wearing Crocs and socks.

Termsandconditions · 11/06/2013 21:56

I think they are perfectly nice, if they're comfy and you like them, wear them with confidence.

I do ask DH his opinion on my clothes, then I totally ignore it and wear what I like. Couldn't be listening to him, he hasn't a clue. What does he know of fashion? Zilch. And then he doesn't like zips here or there, doesn't like that colour button etc etc. Changes his mind the next week. I do ask the DCs. They're pretty good.
