I've just bought these sandals. They're really comfortable and I think they're okay to look at. They aren't super stylish, but neither am I. I have no ambition to be cutting-edge fashionable, but I don't want to stray into 'super frump' territory. So... How ugly are they?? DH says they're awful Sad.

Sorry emsy, just wrote a reply with a few options but it disappeared. I think it is the ankle strap that I find frumpy. I know some people could maybe pull them off but I'm just not keen.
I have a rather irrational hatred for tan/ brown shoes and am currently living in ballet flats or metallic flip flops when not working so prob not the best person to comment anyway!

Vibbe · 11/06/2013 23:52

I like them - wedges are in fashion right now, and the woven leather is a classic design, which never really goes out of fashion.

I think they are cool - and wouldn't mind a pair myself!

LondonBus · 11/06/2013 23:57

They're the kind of shoe which could look great on someone really young and trendy, or just dowdy on someone in there 50's. Probably a school secretary.

I wouldn't wear them, because I would look hideously frumpy in them.

budgieshell · 12/06/2013 00:02

I like them, you like them.
Never ask your DP. If they had it their way we would all be walking around in pole dancing shoes with our underwear on show.
If my DH wears a new pair of flat shoes he is in agony for days and does nothing but complain.

DewDr0p · 12/06/2013 00:21

Do you like them OP?

At the end of the day, if you like them wear them!

I think they're fine. Not setting my world alight but not offensive in the slightest. Dune have a great selection of wedges this summer if you want to look at options.

these are v comfy

LondonBus · 12/06/2013 00:22

Those are lush, DewDr0p.

HoveringKestrel · 12/06/2013 00:26

OP I think those sandals are fine, the wooden heel effect gives it a bit of character, and as far as brown leather shoes go I think they do the job Smile

hollyisalovelyname · 12/06/2013 00:37

Your dh has good taste

  1. He chose you as his wife
  2. He thinks those shoes are awful Smile
emsyj · 12/06/2013 08:17

I think I mainly like them for the comfort factor, which is what feels 'wrong'. But I have to wear something and I do find I wear my comfy shoes much more often than my lovely pretty ones, so they seemed like a good investment...

Those Dune ones are nice, although I don't think they would be as comfy for me as I find Dune shoes quite narrow and my feet are wide... They had some very nice (I thought!) sandals in Office the other week, but it was a Saturday in the Trafford Centre and I couldn't face waiting to try on. For this year, Clarks 'sturdy and sensible' has won out. I don't mind a few people thinking I'm a bit frumpy, as long as I'm not stared and pointed at in the street!

They are okay. Not overfond of the dark brown and agree they'd be better in tan - but they are inoffensive and practical and should be easy enough to wear with different outfits.

i think my nana would have loved them.

Im sorry, theyre not stylish. Theyre not retro glam.

Theyre not awful or particularly hideous, but they are just completely non- anything.

im sure theyre very comfortable

RustyBear · 12/06/2013 10:41

I looked at those last week, emsyj and seriously considered them, but decided I didn't want ankle/heel straps, so in the end I went for these instead

But then I am a school admin person in my fifties, so I expect LondonBus thinks I'm frumpy....

I don't care, though, as they are so comfortable.

Actually I also got these on the same day, which is probably why it poured with rain the next day and the sun seems to have disappeared...

UtterflyButterfly · 12/06/2013 10:59

londonbus I think you hit the nail on the head - I'm in my fifties and I wouldn't dream of getting them because, with the clothes I wear, they would look very dowdy and frumpy (not that I wear dowdy clothes, just clothes suited to my age and figure!). But on a younger person with more on-trend clothes I think they could look fine.

UseHerName · 12/06/2013 11:01

they are nice - classic

but they don't look very comfortable...

emsyj · 12/06/2013 12:03

They really are very comfortable UseHerName! The sole is flexible and they're quite supportive and padded on the insole.

When I was a child I had a horrible teacher called Miss Kirkham. She was evil very very frumpy - I guess looking back she can't have been older than 40 (possibly substantially younger) but she used to wear the most awful frumpy clothes imaginable, including (in all seasons) these which are so ugly they make me go all goosebumpy. Altho I saw on another thread recently that Jools Oliver is now wearing a similar style, so they seem to have now come full circle to being trendy Confused. I still they're revolting.

I am 33...

emsyj · 12/06/2013 12:04

Sorry MrsDeVere - same thing happening to me, which is a bit stupid given that I have already bought them Confused - bit pointless marketing them to me!

daftdame · 12/06/2013 12:08

I think they are nice. What sort of shoes does your DH think you should wear, stilettos? What does he expect you to wear when you need to walk about, seriously?

You've 2 choices:

  1. Wear them anyway
  2. Make him buy you some new comfortable shoes he likes.

There is a third choice, which is both of the above. Grin

browneyedpixie · 12/06/2013 12:56

I like these! its what you wear them with that counts?

SacreBlue · 12/06/2013 13:09

They look comfy and fine for everyday wear. I'm a high heels for events, work or evenings but spend most of my time in flats or bare feet for comfort and, well just handiness I suppose as I don't like driving in heels so go barefoot in car (dumping heels in side well)

If you want to more glam I think something similar in a lighter colour or toe and ankle strap style, or even same style with thinner straps but for day to day - good choice :) prob would look good with a boho type long skirt or flirty short number with a touch of brown to tie them in or even brown accessories like chunky bracelet, bag etc

valiumredhead · 12/06/2013 13:10

Blimey, they are glam to me!

NomDeOrdinateur · 12/06/2013 17:00

They're fine, but if you're looking for a slightly more fashionable alternative I'd suggest these. The colour, the "open-ness" of the design and the little gold studs make them a bit more glamorous IMO.

DewDr0p · 12/06/2013 17:22

Ooh I like those ones nom - good price too.

MadBusLady · 12/06/2013 17:39

They're ok. If you were after stylish but practical I'd have gone for a more fashionable looking flat. It isn't the case that heel = glam and flat = frumpy, there have been several seasons of really good summer flats. You don't really see nicely dressed young girls around in heels much, they're all wearing strappy flats or pumps.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/06/2013 17:42

The Topshop ones are gorgeous, but I don't generally find TS shoes very comfortable.
