Have you used the Brazilian Hair Straightening / Blow-Dry Home Keratin Treatment from Amazon?

I have read lots of threads about this kit and people seem to rave about it to reduce the frizziness in hair but I remember reading a while back that some contain formaldehyde and I concerned that this one contains it. I have read the ingredients but am unsure if formaldehyde goes by other chemical names?
Just worried I'll do damage to myself for the sake of frizz free hair.
Any ideas?

Freddie, it prob will be too flat for you if you straighten it but it is certainly swishy and lovely enough to get away with not straightening it. and you can still use your BBH on it and it'll be lovely and smooth Smile

it's worth it just for the deep condition it gives your hair. mine is in the best condition ever.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 26/06/2013 21:13

and finally oreo!!!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 26/06/2013 21:14

Grin Grin

freddiefrog · 26/06/2013 21:21

Thanks

I tend to run my straighteners round the ends after BBH-ing it to smooth it a bit as it can get a bit wispy

I might have to give it a go

oreoaddict · 26/06/2013 21:21

Well I like to be thorough coco Grin

oreoaddict · 27/06/2013 22:51

Oh, one last question yeah right My hair's really damaged and split at the ends. If I go over it 7 times, isn't it just going to singe and break off? Or does the treatment protect against the intense heat?

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 27/06/2013 23:20

2 weeks wenchelda either before or after keratin treatment.

OP - I have used this and it is fine, I dont find it bad at all. My hairdresser did it for me last time but with this kit and I have had it done twice in different salons.

I still have some left so going to do it myself next time. I can do it no problem and I will get a friend to straighten the back bit for me if needed.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 27/06/2013 23:23

no, its keratin you are putting onto your hair, it coats it and replenishes all glossy niceness. Grin

The heat seals it in/on and its fine.

Purpleknickers · 27/06/2013 23:41

oreo I am guilty of singeing the ends of my hair a bit Blush but since this treatment it's lots better so I think yes it does protect it a lot although I have also tried hard to not clamp my GHD blades together and just gently swoop them over and not pull so perhaps that is helping too.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 28/06/2013 10:25

yes you don't need to squeeze and pull. just gently glide.Smile

oreoaddict · 28/06/2013 10:43

Jax, thanks. That's what I was hoping. There's just something which I know is going to feel really wrong, about going over my hair that many times. I feel quite sorry for it Grin

Purple, do you still use your GHD's regularly then? I'm hoping to just be able to blast it with a hairdryer and ditch the GHD's, for a while, at least.

And another question (told you it wouldn't be the last Blush) When you brush on the keratin, do you put less on towards the roots? I would have thought it's quite tricky to keep it away from the scalp. When you comb it through, as they tell you to, do you re use the complex left on the comb? I would have thought if you didn't, that you would end up with less keratin towards the ends, which is where I need it most. Does that make any sense?...... Hmm

oreoaddict · 28/06/2013 10:45

Oh and it's arrived btw! I'm nearly in the club coco Smile

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 28/06/2013 10:49

oreo - you comb it through and reuse whats on the comb. It sounds more complicated than it is. The comb is v fine so you get an even distribution of product.

oreoaddict · 28/06/2013 11:00

Ah ok. Sorry, I'm probably being really dumb here Grin but when you say reuse, do you mean you just put it straight back on your hair, or back in the pot?

Oh and how many of you have actually done the 48 hour skin patch test? I've just done mine and was a bit worried cos I was a tad itchy Sad

Purpleknickers · 28/06/2013 11:38

oreo yes I still actually blow dry and then smooth again with GHD's but then I have REALLY thick REALLY frizzy hair.
Having said that it used to take me a full hours struggle and now its easy and circa 25 mins

oreoaddict · 28/06/2013 15:27

purple, I've also got really thick and frizzy hair. It normally takes me about 35- 40 minutes to dry and then another 20 minutes to straighten. I honestly don't know how hair dressers do it all day! I only have to do it 2 or 3 times a week and my arms are knackered Grin So what would your hair be like if you let it air dry now? Are you happy with the results overall? Do you feel like your hair gets greasier quicker now?

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 28/06/2013 18:03

The last time I had mine done we went on holiday a week later. I just did the wash & go thing. Sun dried my hair & it was perfect. The only but I had to dry was my fringe.

Hopasholic · 28/06/2013 20:24

Quick update from me!

So hair has most definitely lost its natural curl but it is so easy to manage. The BBH left it more voluminous rather than curly as it was before, but I can also leave it to dry naturally and use ceramic rollers which only takes 10 min and looks fab! I can either wash n go or spend a bit longer with a proper blow dry if im going out. Thoroughly recommend!

Oreo c'mon! Or I'm gonna make you change your nickname to 'procrastinator!'

carriedaway · 28/06/2013 23:30

I have been watching this thread with a mixture of disbelief and hope - sadly my nickname of "bush-head" at school was all too apt Sad my kit has come and planning to do it tomorrow. Please excuse this very thick question but please could someone clarify if I should use the special shampoo and then NOT my normal conditioner before doing the treatment? Ie does the keratin count instead of conditioner or not??

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 29/06/2013 09:28

that's right. use the clarifying shampoo provided in the kit and no conditioner Smile

Hopasholic · 29/06/2013 11:03

Let us know how you get on Bushhead Carriedaway

carriedaway · 29/06/2013 11:10

Thank you, will do Smile

Purpleknickers · 29/06/2013 12:03

oreo now if I leave my hair to air dry its wavy and slightly curly no frizz at all. On holiday I just put some serum on it that is compatible with the product and left it. It looked perfectly acceptable whereas in previous years I would die rather than go out without doing my hair properly. As for it being greasy now , no not at all I still wash it every 3 days same as before.

Sounds like we have the same hair, go for it. I confess I had the product nearly a year before I was brave enough to use it, so we are alike in that respect too.

carriedaway · 29/06/2013 23:58

Done - nothing scary & feels nice and soft already. Thanks to the person who mentioned that the gloves are on the back of the instructions! Blush May have missed it but was not prepared for the magic potion to smell EXACTLY like the Brazil nut toffee one from quality street - very distracting when they're your favourites! Grin

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 30/06/2013 11:34

carriedaway that was me! i couldn't find mine and did it without them Grin found them on the instructions afterwards! Blush
