Have you used the Brazilian Hair Straightening / Blow-Dry Home Keratin Treatment from Amazon?

I have read lots of threads about this kit and people seem to rave about it to reduce the frizziness in hair but I remember reading a while back that some contain formaldehyde and I concerned that this one contains it. I have read the ingredients but am unsure if formaldehyde goes by other chemical names?
Just worried I'll do damage to myself for the sake of frizz free hair.
Any ideas?

Gah. I know this is a zombie thread but the link at the top is broken (now links to a completely different product) and I need to know what the wonder-product is? Can anyone from the old thread remember please?

I use them every now and again. Takes around an hour and a half to get do the treatment, including washing and rough drying hair, putting the stuff on, waiting 20 mins, then drying and straightening my hair. The worst bit is leaving it for three days without washing, although last time I did it I washed it off after two days and it seemed to last almost as long as normal - maybe two months instead of two and a half months.

It's fairly straight but not poker straight like the way Japanese hair straightening does.

Do u know if it makes her hair poker straight?

I have a colleague who swears by them. Only thing is that it takes a loooong time to do the treatment!

Has anyone used the Brazilian blow dry from keratin kits on Amazon recently? I don't want poker straight hair just tamed and frizz free.

Hi all, did my hair beginning of August - have a sensitive scalp and usually use T-gel shampoo which stops me itching. Had a very itchy neck and ears post treatment which has now calmed. Thing is....I'm not too happy with the keratin kits shampoo (white bottle one). Its starting to make me a bit itchy now and I'm greasier. I have gone and bought Tresemme Keratin shampoo and it does say on the bottle that its suitable for use after a salon keratin treatment. Do you think i should give it a go? Or any other sensitive head shampoo tips?

Hey Smile

Reporting in.....

So it's gone back to being quite greasy, but I think that's something to do with the weather being hot and humid again. When I sweat, it gets really greasy for some reason grrrrr It's not terrible though.

I've noticed the ends are quite dry, but I don't want to trim them as I really wanted to grow my hair super long. It's not grown at all I don't think, since I did the treatment, which is coming up for 2 months now. Frustrating.

I think I'm going to order some more though. I said that I'd be pleased if I got 2 months out of it and I have, so I'm reasonably happy overall.

Put this on last Saturday 17th. Washed off this morning (cause I am a minger) and my hair looks lovely. Swishy and like normal hair looks. I must say it looked fantastic for the week I had the treatment on it. Not greasy at all. Though I have pubic hair on my head so would take some amount to make it look greasy.

I put the treatment on myself (not sure very well) and it looks good. I suppose the proof now will be how long it lasts. I will report back in a few weeks.

Went out last night - windy and rainy and in a busy, warm pub - my hair would usually look like candyfloss by the end of the night!!! It looked the same as when I went out - I can't believe it!!! Have other people been using this for years and keeing quiet about it????

Great stuff. Had low expectations as I was a little cack handed when applying it. Did it last Sunday and washed it on Friday - I know but it really didn't look mega greasy.

Didn't blow dry or put straighteners through my hair and it was shiny and frizz free. Just a slight wave which I had years ago which I yearned to have again... So very pleased plus I get 2 treatments out of 1 box.. Bonus!!!!!!!

Amazing stuff!
Just add to add to the chorus...
Best product I`ve used for my hair ever!My overhighlighted ,dry, frizzy shoulder length hair looks healthy+ swishy.
My only worry is that all the interest will cause the price of it to rise prohibitively!

Hi. It's just past the shoulder in length, my hair is fine but I have lots of it and it's layered to make it look fuller. If I leave my hair to dry it looks frizzy. If I blow dry it and use straighteners it looks great but in humid and wet weather it just frizzes again.

I would say I use a teaspoon of shampoo and wash it twice and a tablespoon of conditioner. The frizz has totally gone from my hair so maybe it's just trail and error on how much shampoo/conditioner I need?

Mexican, what's your hair type? I would say that normally, ie, before the treatment, I could get away with washing my hair twice a week(ish), but after doing the treatment, it was more like every other day. I get through a lot of dry shampoo! I'd say for the first month, my hair was greasier, but obviously, much less frizzy, so it was kind of worth it, but then all of a sudden my hair started fluffing up again, so I added more conditioner, which I was told not to do by all. I didn't think my hair would take it and make it even more greasy, but I think with this treatment, the follow up care is kind of trial and error. Luckily, it didn't make my hair greasier, but only because the treatment is wearing off iyswim. How much shampoo and conditioner are you using? I use 4 pumps of shampoo and 2 pumps of conditioner and I have very long, very very thick hair. I used to use just one pump at the beginning, but obviously my hair started getting thirsty.

Hi oreo woke up with hair looking good yesterday and usually hair would still ok the day after too (today) but it does look at bit flat/greasy today. I don't know if that's maybe because I used too much conditioner when I washed it? How are you getting on? Ah just read upthread and see you used keratin conditioner too!!

So pleased!! Did the keratin treatment on Saturday afternoon and have just washed. No frizz, just towel dried and finished off with round brush and dryer. Just amazing!! Hair looks and feels soft and silky and no straigteners required!!

Will be interesting to see how it looks in the morning and how long it lasts............

Ok, well if it's improving then that's the main thing. Hope you continue to impressed with the results Smile

I'm actually happier now than I was in the beginning, because the treatment is wearing off Confused That may sound odd, but because the frizz has come back ever so slightly, I just add more conditioner, but because it's wearing off, my hair is less greasy, so it can take it. I didn't realise how good the keratin kits conditioner actually was, because I was scared to use any before. I used such a tiny amount, it was almost insignificant. Now though, I slap a few pumps on and it's brilliant!

I'm hoping to get another month out of this treatment, but I fully intend to re do it. Yes, there are negatives, but the positives far outweigh them......... in my opinion anyway.

Hi oreo nah, didnt to the patch test....just braved it out. I think it's from the treatment cos although I did my first wash yesterday, I've also been able to put my hair up off my neck and it's better this morning,. Yes it was itchy and a bit rash like but improving.....

Report
oreoaddict · 13/08/2013 12:14

Angie, I haven't had that. Did you do the test beforehand? It won't be the shampoo because it's just an anti build up, clarifying, kind of prepping shampoo and these don't contain anything harsh or likely to irritate. When I did the 48 hour test, I started to itch and assumed I couldn't do the treatment, but 2 minutes later, the itching stopped.

Have you noticed any redness, or swelling?

Washed this morning, hair looks really soft and smooth, is long and quite straight anyway but has a bit of frizz to it that i usually straighten out. This morning just was it and rough dried it and it didnt need straightening at all! Only downside is i think im sensitive to either the keratin treatment or the shampoo as my neck (and a bit of my ears) have been really itchy (noticed it a lot today) Anyone else had this?

I did mine about 3 weeks ago, my hair is wavy and prone to frizz. Usually when I wash my hair it looks good for 1 day, and then gets bigger and frizzier as the days go on. It's no longer the magical poker straight of week one, as the wave has come back. It's like I have a pretty good hair day every day, rather than one day of goodness straight after it has been washed.

Angie, I'd be surprised if it was exactly the same when you washed it, but it depends on what you're looking for really. Personally, I was dreading doing the treatment because I hate having my hair poker straight and flat, but actually, it looked alright and I got a lot of compliments. I was still relieved when I could wash it and I haven't really used the straighteners for over a month now. What's your hair normally like? Curly? Frizzy? If you've had problem hair before, you'll probably find you're very happy with the results. If you're just doing this because you want perfectly straight hair, but haven't really had problems with frizz, then I don't think it's as impressive. My hair would still be quite wavy/curly if I left it to dry naturally, but when I blow dry it, it goes very smooth and practically, completely straight.

Also, I've found the last couple of times I've washed my hair, it's less greasy. I think it's because the treatment is probably wearing off slightly, but I've just started adding a little more conditioner and it's gone back to being frizz free.

So if you have hair like mine, I'd say for the first 3 or 4 weeks, stick to just a tiny amount of conditioner and then after that, just add a little more.

I was panicking slightly a couple of weeks or so ago, because I thought that was it. I think you just need to read your hair as you go along.

Any other updates?.......

oreo a good tip I read when I started using sulphate free shampoo is to add more water if you can't get a lather. Done are better than others but I find this usually helps. :)
