Just got Acne Pistols for my birthday. They're mum boots aren't they?

I just received my belated birthday present from my sister.

They look just like Clark's finest mumboots on me:(

Agree with SMN - Pistols look good on some women (willowy physique obligatory) but where I live they are not particularly fashionable as they are quite tricky to wear - you can look like a Texan tourist if you don't get it right.

But OP your sister clearly gave you something she values a lot and it's a generous gift. Maybe you could very gently say something nice ('lovely but too trendy for me/my lifestyle/muddy roads around here') and ask her to exchange them.

noddyholder · 30/03/2013 17:06

I like the horrigans have seen irl and are nice with dresses (if you are 20 size 8 and live in camden)

noddyholder · 30/03/2013 17:07

texan tourist is spot on for how most people wear them Grin

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/03/2013 17:10

I reckon if someone has shelled out over £300 on a pair of pistols they've probably put some thought into how to wear them and are unlikely to look too texan tourist.

noddyholder · 30/03/2013 17:12

There are soooo many women in brighton wearing them a la texan tourist

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/03/2013 17:15

Not in Bath there aren't - mind you I've seen about 2 other women wearing them round these parts

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/03/2013 17:16

We're a fashion backwater down here - god, we don't even have a Zara

noddyholder · 30/03/2013 17:16

I think a lot of people got them for xmas from dh's who work in london

moondog · 30/03/2013 17:23

'I live in mum boots'

Hehe, Star out and proud.
I am shuffling around the house in pjs, Crocs and a fleece.
I would die if someone came to visit.
As it is, I think the fish delivery guy thinks I am a depressed agoraphobic as he only sees me in this combo-in the gloo m of the porch when he calls.
Luckily, as he rocks a fishy coat with neck tattoos, I think I am safe from sartorial outing.

faustina · 30/03/2013 18:24

Noddy what's the Texan tourist look?

noddyholder · 30/03/2013 18:38

White shirt tucked in with tan belt and stone washed straight jeans and cuban boots with a big bum and thighs (runs)

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 30/03/2013 18:46

i've got the topshop mock-pistols to go with me primark skinnies
i was at a DC-friendly attraction today, and musing on that fact that somehow the tall knee boot has morphed into the mum boot...

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/03/2013 18:51

I agree Charlotte - the knee boot is definitely the 'mum' choice round these parts.

So Noddy - they're wearing that with actual pistols?

AmberNectarine · 30/03/2013 19:55

Oh dear, I just meant there have been myriad threads on this topic which sometimes feel like an excuse to sneer at those of us who spend a little more on our clothes, because we're all being duped Emperor's new clothes style.

OP, if you feel they don't suit you, get rid, expensive mistakes are the most painful.

faustina · 30/03/2013 20:34

I haven't seen anyone like that noddy - will keep my eyes peeled. According to ds2, the knee boot/skinny jeans/moncler jacket means you are a spanish tourist in these here parts

noddyholder · 30/03/2013 20:50

It was a joke (runs back to twitter)

santamarianovella · 30/03/2013 20:55

faustina thats not a bad look at all!i was shopping at selfridges early dec,and london was full of european tourists doing their christmas shopping(mostly italian and spanish)and i can spot them instantly.they always look groomed.knee suede boots moncler or sportmax parka, high quality cashmere and rolex watch and cartier jewelry. even women of a certain age look stylish and not frumpy at all.
i think i prefer the spanish tourist look to the texan oneGrin.

ExRatty · 30/03/2013 21:51

PISTOLS ARE NOT FARKING MUM BOOTS

catinboots · 30/03/2013 21:55

Nope.

I like to spend more than a ha'penny on my clothing. Really.

Just not sure about the pistols. As I've said, I'm large of thigh which does not help.

Bloody working class legs.

Thanks mum.

faustina · 30/03/2013 22:35

there's a base near here, so we get a lot of US tourists, and the one thing I always notice about them is their very very very white trainers. The Spanish comment was DS2 taking the piss out of my uniqlo comptpir des contonniers jacket, but he is right - they do all wear little jackets and knee high boots. I like my pistols and my TS pistol-likes because they are flattering, a walkable height and fairly plain.

What kind of boots do you normally wear cat?

WallyBantersJunkBox · 30/03/2013 22:51

My boss wears hers to work a couple of times a week, black tights and a mini, or leggings/skinnies.

Yes she is a mum, but she's also a fashion buying director.

She is a size zero waif though, with very thin long legs.

So if you don't feel comfortable with them change them for something you can wear and enjoy all season, don't eBay!

applecrumbleandcream · 30/03/2013 23:21

I wouldn't say they were 'mum boots' they are just rather plain boring boots that you can buy similar anywhere. I don't get why they are so expensive but I am willing to be persuaded if anyone wants to enlighten me. I have a pair of leather Top Shop boots which I paid nearly £100 for which will last me the next couple of winters, I just don't see the point in paying any dearer than that for a pair of plain black boots.

mutantninjamyrtle · 31/03/2013 00:48

Ah, nothing like an ankle boot thread to get S&B going like it's AIBU for the day... :)

I love my Horrigans - go with everything and are very comfy - it's probably a good thing we all like different stuff or we'd end up with a boot mum-uniform.

I still don't get why the Pistols are so expensive, however? Were they handstitched by the shoemaker's elves??

Mrscampbellblack - I'm guessing you live in the southwest, then? No Zara west of Exeter, the bastards.

catinboots · 31/03/2013 04:57

Sadly, the best boot that flatters my thigh is an Ugg

OP posts:
faustina · 31/03/2013 06:28

I don't get why they're so expensive either. They are just a nice pair of well made, nice looking, comfortable boots. Acne used to be reasonably priced - they're silly expensive now.

Cat, swap them for something you actually want - not even necessarily boots. Would your sister mind? If she got them from selfridges then at least you have a massive choice!
