I am wearing Chanel 22 today. I love it, and it is another one where people always comment positively.

ToysRLuv · 12/05/2013 09:47

Ladame: I think Alien is Jasmine? What you DD was wearing could be one of the flankers (there are quite a few), though? I'm not familiar with them, at all..

Once I get back home in a week's time I'll post a list of samples up for a swap. For one, I'd definitely be interested in Ambre Pizza Sultan..

I'm in Scotland and have never heard of Savers. We probably don't have it. Sad TK Maxx is good for the odd blind find and they have a lovely and cheap collection of room fragrance reed diffusers..

Also found a reduced Country Candle Company "Chapel" candle in a local gift shop the other day. Gorgeous! (I have a funny obsession with churchy smells for an Atheist)

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 12/05/2013 09:56

Toys- I love a bot of church smell too. Yesterday I wore L'Air du desert Marocain and it reminded me of CDG Avignon. Both gorgeous church incensey scents.

I too cringe at v pretentious reviews. Sometimes on Fragrantica reviewers go a bit mad and refer to a perfume as "she". I just love read people's personal responses: what it reminds them of, how it makes them feel etc.

Ladame- I totally agree about gourmands. I do a lot of baking and hate smelling like a kitchen! (but love Citrus) I quite like Ambre Narguile though, but it still makes em smell like a Christmas cake.

Ladame · 12/05/2013 10:31

Toys yes that's the book! I'm going on Amazon afterwards to get it Smile. I don't know enough about perfumes to even try and be pretentious (sigh). I find it so hard to identify florals. The only one I really know is Lily of the Valley. Everyone on this thread seems so knowledgeable and I just love reading it.

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/05/2013 11:05

Forgot to say - I had a squirt of Chanel 1932 the other day as I was passing through Selfridges. Didn't like it at all. It smelled cheap, thin, and didn't last. Half an hour later, and there was nothing left at all.

Viviennemary · 12/05/2013 12:33

Ladame when I started reading these threads a couple of months or so ago I knew nothing about perfume. I recognised lily of the valley and rose and nothing else. But I read about the book on the threads and I got it from Amazon and it's fascinating though I don't agree with all of it. They give Angel a great write up and I thought it was dire.

Anyway I'm sure you'll love the book and find lots of new perfumes you absolutely must try. And others from this thread. I'd never even heard of the Heeley Sel Marin before reading it on here. A salty sea scent with citrus. That is quite amazing. Sorry I've got really carried away!

Haberdashery · 12/05/2013 12:45

Ladame, I'm not a chef (wow, v impressed) but I cook a lot and am very interested in cooking generally, and I also cannot bear gourmands apart from citrus. The one exception to this I have found is Slumberhouse Pear and Olive which is so fresh and light that I can't dislike it. It's more plantish than foody, perhaps.

Haberdashery · 12/05/2013 12:47

Also, I have PMed you, Toys. Thank you so much!

Ladame · 12/05/2013 13:08

Thanks everyone! Have just ordered the 'Book' from Amazon. Haber, I run my own little catering company at the mo, very unglamorous, spend my time in a stripey apron thinking of something else to do with duck (live in France Wink. Just finished week of mammoth cooking. Still I have earned some little centimes and will be investigating some new fragrances. Still not very warm here, but in a fit of hopefulness for the sun, am going in the green/cologne/citrus/oud direction.

ToysRLuv · 12/05/2013 13:11

No worries, Haber! Will get on the case probably on Tuesday (will be driving most of tomorrow). Frugal, I'll post the Safari then, as well.

coffeeinbed · 12/05/2013 13:20

I got my bottle of Hiris in TKMaxx. Grin

ToysRLuv · 12/05/2013 13:24

Wow coffee. Now THAT'S good luck.

ToysRLuv · 12/05/2013 13:25

Wow coffee. Now THAT'S good luck.

ToysRLuv · 12/05/2013 13:26

Uh, sorry for double message (thought first hadn't gone through)!

FrugalFashionista · 12/05/2013 14:43

Thanks Toys!

SOTD Vega by Guerlain. My sample will be finished soon, undecided on FB

I'm thinking of a special perfumista giveaway. I have a box of tiny violet samples (from The Perfumed Court) that I am not wearing too much - everything from Apres l'ondee to Uncle Serge to Berdoues, 9 in total - and since there are so many violet lovers here, would it make sense to circulate it? I might throw in a couple of more modern surprises too. Is anyone interested? It would involve taking some time to sniff them (you get to keep your favorite Wink) and then sending the rest on to the next participating perfumista (normal letter size padded envelope).

Raise your hand if interested in participating!

pocketandsweet · 12/05/2013 15:10

. Throwing hand high above her head. I would be very interested. I think that is a great idea. I need to get offline now.... I was involved in something serious (workwise) and have just ended up buying a bottle of Y by YSL ( on Ebay) AND googling Caldey Island and buying some Island Gorse. I adore Violets please sign me up as interested.

Haberdashery · 12/05/2013 15:15

I am also interested!

OneLittleLady · 12/05/2013 15:58

I'm also very interested

ToysRLuv · 12/05/2013 16:42

I'm interested, as well!

SOTD: Deci Dela - pleasant enough, although somehow a bit stuffy/dusty. Having said that, better stuffy than a noughties fruityfloral...

Fuzzybirds · 12/05/2013 17:51

Ooh yes sign me up too!

I had a sniff of Berdoues Violettes Divines in M&S earlier- bit meh about it, seemed quite fruity. Also sniffed the cologne from the bottle, it seemed lovely but no tester and didn't think I should go splashing it on!

Also tried Fragonard's Etoile, not so keen on that one but still loving Chantal Thomass Osez Moi.

Then tried a couple of Lauders- Private Collection, big green sillage bomb, which has become a very clean and soapy now. And then Knowing, which I found very rosey and mossy and has also become quite soapy. I like both of these a lot but not sure if I want FBs...

OneLittleLady · 12/05/2013 18:11

SOTD is a sample of Oscar de la Renta Intrusion. Very bright, lots of citrus and white floral notes. There's something dirty hiding in the background though, it just peeks through on the dry down and gives some interest in what would otherwise be a pretty but dull scent

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 12/05/2013 18:14

Oh yes I'd be interested in Pass the Violets too!

FrugalFashionista · 12/05/2013 18:20

Pocket send me your address, and I'll send you a bunch of violets = Thanks

You can then send them on to the next violet-loving perfumista... We'll have a violet-smelling chain letter. Pocket -> Haber -> OneLittleLady -> Toys -> Fuzzy - Chocs... Or if even more people sign up, I might split the samples in two batches - 11 violet perfumes is quite a lot of work even for hardcore sniffers like you Wink This way it would be doable in a week and quite a few of you would be able to indulge in violets within a month from now. But Pocket is definitely in the pole position...

Will do the mailing on Tue or Wed so there is still time to sign up.

I'm wearing a bit of Un bois de violette - Feminite du bois seen through a violet prism. Excellent stuff!

justaweeone · 12/05/2013 18:33

Does anyone remember a perfume from the 80's called Maxims de Paris that is now discontinued and recommend anything similar?

pocketandsweet · 12/05/2013 18:46

Cheers frugal. I'm really excited.Thanks
