Forgot that I'm also intrigued by Venezia, but don't know whether to test the new versions or try and track down the old one.

Fuckitthatlldo · 10/05/2013 09:24

Thanks Cointreau - I will have a look. How long does the service delivery usually take from Surrender to Chance if they are in the US? I would like a sample of Montale Black Aoud as well...

SOTD is my beloved vintage Bulgari Omnia. It was the scent I had been waiting for all my life when I first discovered it. Unfortunately it is fleeting in the extreme and doesn't last five minutes Sad

CointreauVersial · 10/05/2013 13:14

Fuckit - Delivery from StoC normally takes a couple of weeks, so it's not for the impatient! But it's always beautifully packed in a pretty box or bag, with a couple of sweets thrown in, so they certainly win on charm (and choice).

Actually, Fuckit, you might like my SOTD if you like ambery-spicy; it's Serge Lutens Chergui. Quite a bit of tobacco in there too (and hay, apparently, but I don't get any of that).

Toys - I used to have a pen which had Venezia-scented ink! I think it was a gift-with-purchase. Venezia is a very pretty fragrance; at the time I preferred it to Roma, but I didn't wear it much; it felt too much like "taking your work home with you" because the offices always whiffed of it (and Giorgio, needless to say....). I don't know how different the new version is.

Fuckitthatlldo · 10/05/2013 13:28

Squeeeeeee! My Les Senteurs samples came in the post today!

Oh my god, everything smells exquisite! I have on L'air du desert Morocain and it is the nicest perfume I have ever ever smelt. Ambre Sultan is going to be wonderful too - I can tell just by sniffing the vial.

I'm so delighted - I will never go back to mainstream perfume ever again.

Thank you so much new incarnation of DonaAna! I can't stop sniffing myself!

ToysRLuv · 10/05/2013 13:34

Cointreau: An office smelling of perfume is so hard to imagine..

I'd LOVE a pen with perfumed ink! But I'd have to resist the urge to draw on myself like a toddler (there are dozens of pictures of me at 2-5 years old with my knees full of drawings).

Dfg15 · 10/05/2013 13:36

Fuzzybirds - thank you for the welcome and Frugalfashionista also for the welcome and the suggestions. I've heard that YSL Cinema is similar to Sensi, so I'll give that a sniff at some point. This thread is great, I love perfume!

Fuckitthatlldo · 10/05/2013 13:37

And thank you Cointreau, I will definitely try the Chergui. These perfumes smell like nothing else I've ever tried. I feel really inspired!

FrugalFashionista · 10/05/2013 14:08

I cannot remember exactly what Sensi smells like but am a dedicated fan of Cinema. One of my very few recent mainstream purchases and lightweight enough for cool summer days.

Toys don't buy Roma, I'll send you a sample with LR!

CV that's funny! To me Roma embodies an era, it was everywhere at a certain point and I still remember the ads. It's one of those supersoapy smells that now seem a bit retro but always bring back lots of good memories (Safari has a similar vibe).

I wouldn't mind a few drops of Giorgio.

SOTD a very light dab of Safari. When work is finished for today, I'll celebrate with Loretta!

F-lldo (which nickname should we use? Fuck sounds a bit rude Blush) Sounds fantastic - one of the reasons why I love DH is that he wears LADDM at least once a week - I get to enjoy the delicious sillage... It's one of the most comforting scents I know! You may like ambers, incense-based and woody and oud perfumes, including some classic masculines.

Speaking of which - where is Haber?

Fuckitthatlldo · 10/05/2013 14:32

Yes I do like ambers. Prada's Amber is one of my favourite mainstream perfumes although it pales into insignificance compared to LADDM, which I am so excited about - it's delicious!

I like spicy, woody, oriental, slightly sweet smells. Am looking forward to sampling some of the oud perfumes, definitely.

I sense a new obsession coming on Grin

Fuckitthatlldo · 10/05/2013 14:34

And you can call me whatever you like - I don't mind as long as it's reasonably polite. Oh... hang on...

ToysRLuv · 10/05/2013 15:49

Thanks so much, Frugal!

I like Cinema too. I think it's one of those universally likeable ones. It's just very pleasant and unoffensive.

Couldn't find Venezia on my trip to town today. Sprayed Poison on one arm and Opium on the other in the shop to remind myself what they smell like (hope there weren't any allergic people around the town today - I would stun them right now Grin ). Opium has lots in common with Dune and the weird toothpastey accord in Poison is much more tolerable, if not actively nice, in the original Poison than in Hypnotic (which I want to like, but don't because of the "toothpasteness").

Kenzo's Silk, Plum, Camelia and Green Tea perfumes were on sale at quite attractive prices, but thought better of it. Silk tester was broken, as well, so couldn't try it anyway (that was the only one I was vaguely interested in).

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 10/05/2013 15:53

Toys- how interesting that you got toothpaste from Hypnotic Poison. I got Playdough and and marzipan. I didn't think I'd like it but I couldn't get my nose off my wrist!

OneLittleLady · 10/05/2013 16:04

I too got marzipan from Hypnotic Poison, no playdoh though. I love the smell of marzipan in any case

ToysRLuv · 10/05/2013 16:30

I wish I got play doh or marzipan.. Sad I'm really trying to place that accord in any other way possible, but it just IS toothpaste on me. I think there was at least one other person on a forum who got the same, so it's not just me..

Repeatedlydoingthetwist · 10/05/2013 16:37

Hi ladies, I absolutely love this thread and watch it with interest. I was wondering if you could help me with some long lost favourites? (Either where I could still buy them or suggestions for similar) I am currently experiencing pangs of longing for Givenchy Fleur d'interdet and Lancôme Attraction.

All help grateful received!

Fuckitthatlldo · 10/05/2013 16:40

Actually, I've just realised I've smelt L'air du desert morocain before.

I remember I was in the Co-op once and there was a woman a few metres away in the next queue who just smelt wonderful. I remember thinking she'd gone a bit overboard as I could smell her from a fair distance, but that her perfume was beyond gorgeous. I had meant to go and ask her what it was but for some reason that didn't happen. Her perfume made such an impression on me that I can even still remember what she looked like. This was years ago.

I realise now that she was wearing LADDM. Yay! Finally I smell like the mystery woman in the Co-op!

FrugalFashionista · 10/05/2013 16:42

Ladies do you remember - was there an ad for Roma where a preraphaelite woman kisses and fondles a statue? Michaelangelo's David or similar young Adonis - possibly among broken columns and rubble
Or do I have false memory syndrome Grin

Toys Opium+Poison = a mushroom cloud of sillage

I have a friend who gags every time she catches a whiff of Cinema Sad

Workday finished, I'm allowed to spray on some Loretta!

Fuckitthatlldo · 10/05/2013 16:47

Big Orange just had a quick google of Lancome Attraction. You can buy it off Amazon I think. And Fragrance Direct. Smile

Could anybody tell me what the difference between sillage and projection is? They appear to mean the same thing...

Also, I've been reading reviews on Basenotes of different perfumes I thought I might like to try. Apparently Muscs Koublai Khan has "fecal notes". Hmmm perhaps not Grin

FrugalFashionista · 10/05/2013 16:51

BigOrange Fleur d'Interdit and Lancome Attraction. For unknown reasons German eBay is a treasure trove of discontinued perfumes (I buy lots via eBay.de) but you can always double check eBay.co.uk on your own!

ToysRLuv · 10/05/2013 16:54

Frugal:I know I'm just a bit nuclear right now. Finally some proper longevity an sillage!!! Grin Grin

Don't remember that advert, but it is very plausible (i.e. you PROBABLY didn't imagine it).

How can anyone gag at Cinema? What kinds of things does this friend like? Confused

Fuckit: I'm being summoned now, but will look at your question a bit later..

Repeatedlydoingthetwist · 10/05/2013 17:01

Oh wow! Thank you so much for the fast responses, I'm off to check them out now Grin

FrugalFashionista · 10/05/2013 17:03

Fuck I'm quite partial to fecal notes. The blog Perfume Shrine has great essays on animalic perfumes and indolic perfumes. Most serious perfumistas arrive to a lightbulb moments re: jasmine and other narcotic white flowers and, erm, the home stretch of our digestive tract Wink

The most true-to-live shit smell I've ever experienced outside the loo and nappy change area was either Jasmin Noir or Mon Jasmin Noir - but most others don't appear to perceive it the same way Grin

Dzing! smells very comfortingly of dry hay and elephant manure...

ToysRLuv · 10/05/2013 17:21

Dzing does NOT smell of manure!!!! Grin Eeek, don't put it in my head!

DH already told me it smells of camping site toilets (as does apparently Traversee du Bosphore). Confused

Fuckitthatlldo · 10/05/2013 17:26

Jasmin noir? By Bulgari? I have that perfume on my dresser! I've never detected a fecal note. It's a bit much though IMO. I don't wear it often.

Have decided I want samples of:

Black Aoud - Montale
Bal a Versailles - Jean Desprez
Tabac Blond - Caron?
Narcisse Noir - dunno.

Can I get all those from Les Senteurs or will I have to shop around? Would like to avoid having to ship from the US if possible (am far too impatient!)

I'm plumping for a full 50ml bottle of LADDM too. Most definitely.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 10/05/2013 17:29

Dzing so does smell of manure! Its smells of horses and manure! But don't let that put you off since manure is made of straw so it's not an offensive smell like say, dog poo.

Frugal- it's interesting what you say about Jasmine. When used as a co-ingredient, it reminds me of downstairs loo- all flowers over poo.

However, when I tried Serge Lutens Sarrasins recently, which has Jasmine as dominant, I fell in love with it. Narcotic is exactly the right word. It was like a spell! No indolic notes at all, it made me think of a flower garden at midnight.
