Thank you Fuzzybirds Smile

Does DonaAna still post round these parts? I remember she gave me some fabulous advice regarding perfumes ages ago. In fact it was through her I discovered Les Senteurs.

Was really impressed by her knowledge and would like to pick her brains again if poss.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 08/05/2013 17:09

The wonderful Dona Ana namechanged and returned to these parts in disguise. She is a true marvel.

Hmm, I like the sound of Lutece. I used to loathe powdery scents until I discovered the Balmains, then the penny dropped and I totally "got" chypres. If Lutece is vintage-y and powdery, I'm all ears.

Fuckitthatlldo · 08/05/2013 17:16

Hmm intriguing. Thanks for the heads up ChocsAway

Does anybody have any knowledge of what the Les Senteurs delivery service is like?

I ordered online last night and paid a small amount extra for their premium delivery service. So I'm really hoping my samples with arrive with tomorrows post. I haven't been so excited about a parcel in ages Grin

Can't wait to try Ambre Sultan.

ToysRLuv · 08/05/2013 20:32

Ooh, guys.. Guess what I just found stuffed away deep in a bathroom cupboard at my parents' house?

Only a nearly full bottle of vintage (70s from looks of it) Diorella! Must be another one of my Greek grandma's perfumes. Tried some on and it's surprisingly good! To me it smells like a dirtier, leathery Dune.. Will have to decide whether to sell or keep, now..

coffeeinbed · 08/05/2013 20:35

Blimey.
had a day from hell.
Liberally scented with some gentle Sauv Blanc notes - not working tomorrow.
On a plus note - recently retried Shalimar and I still love it, even though it's not the beast it used to be.

pocketandsweet · 08/05/2013 20:41

Wow Diorella. What a find! Does anyone here remember Tuxedo by Ralph Lauren. It has been discontinued forever but I would LOVE to smell something similar.

ToysRLuv · 08/05/2013 20:48

So sorry to hear that coffee.. Hope you're ok!

Pocket:I remember Tuxedo, but have no idea what would be similar.. Looked at the notes and there are a LOT of them.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 08/05/2013 22:48

According to Fragrantica, Tuxedo reminds one reader of 360 for Men by Perry Ellie

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 08/05/2013 22:48

My mother gave me a bottle of Estee for my birthday the other day. I love it - I've never had it before, but it reminded me very strongly of something she used to wear in the 1970s - possibly Charles of the Ritz?

We went out to lunch - a posh lunch for her birthday, and she was wearing Sycomore. It smelled absolutely fantastic on her, but wasn't the sort of perfume I would have thought she would have gone for, as she tends to go for lighter scents these days, such as Diorella, O de Lancome etc.

pocketandsweet · 09/05/2013 09:38

mrsschedenfreude your mum sounds amazing! Charles of the Ritz. Wow instant flashback to my childhood. Totally forgotten about that. I was lucky ( and must have shown my tendencies early on) and used to be given lots of little samples by both my mum and a nice aunt. I remember distinctly how much I treasured all those little bottles ( I think sample bottles were generally more impressive then). I especially remember Caleche and Amazone from Hermes, Charles of the Ritz, Emeraude, Je Reviens, Fiji, Rive Gauche and Y by YSL. This is probably why I have a big sentimental weakness for 1970s perfumes. In the spirit of that sentimentality I am wearing L'Air du Temps. It just isn't me BUT DDs love the bottle and I let them pick today.

CointreauVersial · 09/05/2013 13:11

My mum is still stuck on Giorgio Beverly Hills.Grin

Fuzzybirds · 09/05/2013 13:13

Lutece is lovely, I was lucky enough to get a small vintage bottle of the Houbigant version for 99p from ebay. According to reviews on fragrantica, the newer version by Dana is good too and still very affordable! The longevity of the one I've got is amazing, put it on yesterday morning and could still smell it last night when I went to bed.

Wow Toys that's quite a find! SoTD is J'adore, an old favourite I wore for years but got bored of it. I'm quite enjoying revisiting it today!

FrugalFashionista · 09/05/2013 14:14

Welcome new perfumistas!

Dfg15 Sensi has a huge fanbase and prices tend to be high. Use eBay.de and an auction sniper and set the price as high as you can, or be prepared to trawl lots of carboots and jumble sales. Michael Edwards (=the perfume guru) suggests So Nude by Costume National and Evening Edged in Gold by Ineke and Mulholland 2010 by Keiko Mecheri as the closest matches. Matching site here.

My SOTD: Roma by Laura Biagiotti.

Fuckitthatlldo · 09/05/2013 14:16

Oh gosh I remember Giorgio of Beverly Hills. I had an art teacher at school who seemingly bathed in it. The entire arts block reeked of it.

Now there's an olfactory memory and a half.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 09/05/2013 14:22

pocket- I agree, Seventies perfumes were often very good and I'd love to see more of them. Sadly I think the Twenteens will be remembered as the FruityFloral Celebuscent decade.

The seventies were all powdery chypres and spices!

pocketandsweet · 09/05/2013 15:32

Eeeeek frugal I'm going to be on that matching site all night now. Three suggestions for my beloved Tuxedo.

Giorgio makes me think of US Vogue ( which my mum gave me a subscription to when I was about 11). I lived in a very very small town in the middle of nowhere and for about a year it seemed every issue smelled of Giorgio. After a couple of months my mum made me rip the "smelly pages" out before I brought them into the house. I would live to smell it on someone else now just for the olfactory memory.

pocketandsweet · 09/05/2013 15:34

Someone on her once linked to a blog that seemed to be largely about 70s perfumes. I've lost the link. Does anyone remember what I'm talking about?

coffeeinbed · 09/05/2013 16:32

Sorry, font remember that blog.
SOTD Feminite du Bois perfume
Bugger is that good!

OneLittleLady · 09/05/2013 16:34

SOTD Valentino Gold. It's really fresh yet spicy on me, I smell lots of lime and ginger in it. it's brightened my day up anyway as it's overcast and raining here

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/05/2013 17:25

My mother loves Giorgio, CV. But fortunately she has run out. Grin

FrugalFashionista · 09/05/2013 17:42

Yesterday's Perfume. One of the best perfume blogs out there.

Fuckitthatlldo · 09/05/2013 19:18

Does anyone know where I could buy a sample of Bal a Versailles? Have had a look on Les Senteurs and can't find it :-(

Really would like to try it.

CointreauVersial · 09/05/2013 22:30

Fuckit - I bought my Bal a Versailles sample from Surrender to Chance. But they are in the US, and their postage costs rocketed recently, so only worth it if you can get a big order together.

Having said that, they have a stupendous stock list, so that might not be difficult!

I finally got around to wearing Sel Marin today (couldn't locate my sample yesterday) - interesting to see the similarities between it and Eau D'Issy in terms of the calone (but Sel Marin didn't actually paralyse my nasal passages, as Eau D'Issy now does).

FrugalFashionista - Laura Biagiotti was one of the brands I used to look after at P&G! I was never particularly keen on the women's fragrances back then, but Roma Uomo was lovely on DH.

ToysRLuv · 10/05/2013 07:08

I'm sort of interested in Laura Biagiotti Roma. It looks like it would be quite a nice fragrance. In her teens, my cousin always wore either Laura or Sotto Voce (?).

SOTD: Escada Sport Country Weekend, which is miles better than it sounds, but could be a tiny bit "punchier"/heavier.
