Frugal, well, those coats do sound amazing and worth falling off the wagon for! Your DDs will be arguing over your wardrobe in years to come.

I also find Pinterest really helpful and feel really good when I delete things. I'd have bought that Prada bag in a flash if I could have (luckily I couldn't!).
I have to wait for discount codes/sales/Christmas/birthday to get the labels I prefer. I need build up a little fund for the summer sales.

Liberty :) at the emoticons. That is very nice of your relative to give you the vouchers. They sell Chinti & Parker in a shop at the end of my street. I gaze in at that heart jumper every day. It needs to go to half price or ideally more before I can get it. I will not be picking up grubby children when I wear it!

Decameron · 08/03/2013 07:21

H&M's new label

AmberNectarine · 08/03/2013 08:08

I don't do shopping bans. Much like I don't give stuff up for lent, what is the point in setting myself up to fail? I do stick to my (admittedly rather generous) budget every month though, broadly speaking.

On that note, postman has just turned up with a pair of cobalt converse high tops. You would not believe how hard those were to track down in my size. However, they are lovely, and will be an excellent addition to my wardrobe, so I'm very pleased I did.

Have to admit to ordering this lovely item, which was naughty as it's gold, but I've wanted one for ages...

FrugalFashionista · 08/03/2013 08:23

I still love both of my coats in bright daylight but this has got to stop.
I'm determined to succeed, and have set up shopping ban / frugal fashion thread. If anyone else needs some detox and wants to join, welcome!
Dec very tempting but I am not going to click that link Wink

FrugalFashionista · 08/03/2013 08:26

Sorry, link fail, retry here. Doomed to fail from the very beginning? Sad

shopafrolic · 08/03/2013 09:43

Amber you know you can bespoke build your converse now for not too many more £££ - yours sound fab! Mine have Shopafrolic embroidered onto them so if you ever see me wearing them I'll be outed!

shopafrolic · 08/03/2013 09:43

Frugal I'm coming on over...... (but staying here too!)

Sleepwhenidie · 08/03/2013 09:43

Grin at frugal "trying to stay sober in a bar"...so right! Your new purchases sound beautiful though.

Shop definitely hang on to that scarf, it is great. Think you'd regret selling it (but give me a shout if you decide you really want to Wink).

I have tried banning myself from shopping and never managed more than about a fortnight (and that usually includes at least a week's holiday with no shops or Internet access Grin. I don't have a budget as such, but DH has asked if we can rein it in a bit over the next couple of months (our income is not consistent and all he sees is bank balance depleting rapidly!) I do only buy stuff I really love though and it mostly lasts for years or gets worn literally to death. Any mistakes (ridiculously high Louboutins anyone?) get ebayed. In that spirit, the Whistles top is going back, it is very pretty but just not me.

My confession..Since joining MNVogue in January I have bought (and love)

  • leather MiH's (50% funded by birthday money)
  • bright blue duffy sweater
  • grey/blue leopard print scarf
  • black jaquard trousers from zara
  • white linen allsaints T
  • suede J Brands (mega bargain, £237 from £895, how could I not?!)
  • Pistols (also 50% birthday gift)
  • Catherine malandrino trousers from TK Maxx
  • Monty jacket (eBay, funded by sale of shoes)
  • pink blochs (£55 eBay, also mostly funded by eBay sales)

Had a great night out last night, went to a v cool restaurant, wore my leather trousers, pink zadig tank and gold sequin jacket (I love that jacket, wish I had more opportunities to wear it), Sam Edelman boots. Felt great. Going to V&A with MIL today, planning suede trousers, pistols and Monty with yellow bag but am feeling rough, I have some kind of throat/chest infection, would prefer to stay home in pj's tbh Sad.

MarshaBrady · 08/03/2013 09:55

Shop I'm very glad to hear you are staying here too.

MarshaBrady · 08/03/2013 09:57

That sounds gorgeous Sleep. I LOVE your list. I have a hot date with dh today in our favourite beautiful restaurant. Can't wait.

Love that Saint Laurent Amber and am green you own Saint Laurent!

Sleepwhenidie · 08/03/2013 10:04

Ooh, how lovely having lunch date Marsha - where are you headed? And more importantly, what will you be wearing Wink?

MarshaBrady · 08/03/2013 10:09

Red dot sleep! What to wear what to wear. I need something new Blush

MarshaBrady · 08/03/2013 10:10

Actually forget the blush. I just need something really good for doing lunch.

It's a whole new wardrobe section.

MarshaBrady · 08/03/2013 10:10

I mean pm. Red dot isn't the name of the restaurant Grin

MarshaBrady · 08/03/2013 10:24

Liberty that is fabulous re your relative and NaP!

MrsR love Preen too.

Decam love the scarf.

BrandyAlexander · 08/03/2013 10:38

Oooh hot date Marsha! Love it :) Envy

There is no bloody way that I am listing my acquistions since I joined this thread!

Today is dress down day in the office so I am wearing this Hobbs knit dress with my LK Bennett sol boots Hmm. My accessories are my Boodles cocktail ring, thomas sabo watch Wink and my red Smythsons Nancy.

I am also wearing the perfume I wore on my wedding day. I read this fantastic tip before I got married, which was to choose a new perfume especially for the day and the honeymoon and then to wear it rarely afterwards. It means everytime you wear it, both you and dh are reminded of that period of time. Totally works. Dh is very excited and looking forward to the end of the day already. Grin

AAAwww I love it when there's time for cheeky lunch dates with DH - have fun Marsha.
Since I've been on MNV I have bought everything you see on my AW and SS Pinterest boards! (but I have been here a while.......)

MarshaBrady · 08/03/2013 10:56

lol Shop why can't your arms go above your head? Grin

Novice love that outfit, the bow dress is cute (ahem fashion cute). Scent has such a strong memory trigger I like that idea.

I find this thread helpful in keeping a lid on things, as if it doesn't make the grade of all the high quality links it's not coming in.

libertychick · 08/03/2013 11:14

Novice your office dress down is smarter than a lot of my dress up days!

I have posted on the frugal thread but definitely staying here too. Like Marsha and Amber I will keep shopping, just need to be a little more restrained. I want to do both approaches - ie make better use of what I have and spend wisely, but also get some beautiful things and generally upgrade my wardrobe a little. As I have mentioned before I am turning 40 this year and I have spent my life denying myself expensive stuff on the grounds that it's somehow 'wrong' to spend on myself and also that I am always swearing to lose weight so don't buy things on the basis that I'll wait until I am really slim. But I have decided that at 40 the old bod is probably as good as its going to get and I may as well just make the best of it.

I am Envy at your wardrobe Sleep so cool!

MarshaBrady · 08/03/2013 11:19

Fab Liberty glad you're staying here too! I'm kind of in the middle anyway. Restraint, ie not cheaper stuff that won't last, but the odd splurge. I have to really love it.

BrandyAlexander · 08/03/2013 11:58

That's very nice of you Marsha and Liberty. The only thing I forgot with this dress is that it is errrm quite revealing because it is fitted and also it is short, even for a short arse like me. I am 28E bra size so the dress makes me look slightly Jessica Rabbit-esque! Blush

Glad everyone is still staying here, even if posting on the frugal/shopping ban thread! I am in the very fortunate position of having the disposal income to induldge in my passion for nice things. I find that over the last 20 years, my style has changed every 3 years or so, as I have been at different phases of my life and at the beginning, middle or end of an decade. It has probably taken me this long as an adult to find a style in which I look good and I can walk out of the door every day and feel good and most of it has been by (occasionally expensive) trial and error!

What I like about this thread is that it does make me think about clothes a lot, but actually in a good way, thinking about what goes together more. I am happy with my work clothes, mostly happy with my going out clothes and what I really want to do this summer is to be more adventourous on colour with my casual stuff. I have been introduced to so many new brands, thoughts, ideas etc. And everyone is lovely :)

Sleepwhenidie · 08/03/2013 12:02

Love your dress down dress novice, beautiful bag too, I like Smythson a lot.

Well I got dressed but obviously looked so rough I have been sent back to bed by MIL and DH (hopefully it was just my pallor and general demeanour rather than the clothes Grin). They are going for a nice mother/son lunch then picking up DS1 from school. Ds2's turn for chicken pox (caught from dd who had it on hols) so I've been waiting on him all morning but now nanny is here for the afternoon.

I love this thread for its friendly, supportive vibe and it does help you consider carefully before you buy (as does a few days pondering on Pinterest as someone else said). It can of course be a terrible influence too, but I suspect most of us here don't actually need that much enabling from others to buy lovely things Grin.

Re the emoticons - does anyone else feel their - and acronyms - absence terribly when typing texts or emails Grin?

MarshaBrady · 08/03/2013 12:22

Agree everyone is very lovely, it's a gorgeous thread and just the right distraction for when say the park again feels a tad cold. Lovely to just hang out on it with you all.

Emoticons, yes they are fab, nicely done too, simple, not horrid overblown smileys.

Decameron · 08/03/2013 12:23

I've always been bad (or is that good?!) for buying clothes so can't blame anyone else. Once I stick to my monthly budget and don't put it on the credit card, I'm happy enough. Will read the other thread with interest though!

Novice, that red Smythson bag is just beautiful.

shopafrolic · 08/03/2013 12:50

Right Marsha have managed to untape my sleeves from the thread and normal typing is resumed. My clothes shopping today? A Thomas The Tank engine tee in Sainsburys for DS and some trainer socks for me. Not quite the same is it?! Grin
