I'd love your opinions - Is this dress too casual as bridal dress?

Byanymeans your dress is lovely!

how do you all find these jaw dropping dresses? I've been looking and looking!

I love the monsoon dress too Teds, but felt the same, over done it at the neck.

I'd love to get the dressed up, understated thing right, it's very difficult. I am a skinny s and turtle neck girl at any opportunity ! Grin

OP just wanted to say that I loved your original dress, very 60s style.

although agree with others, ditch the black belt. It will look gorgeous when you have your flowers and vintage pearls too. hope you find something you like soon.

congratulations & hope your day is fab Smile

OP I love your Temperley dress. The black belt needs to go, and yes to the changing of the buttons - but that is a high-quality dress, well made and delicate. It is certainly worth a try. I do think you'll need to be quite careful with your accessories, though - keep the shoes and jewellery classy as opposed to casual, and wear your hair up if you can. Simple 60s chignon maybe?

Try it at least and see how you go!

My old flat mate got married in a slightly frilly T shirt and a ordinary summer skirt. She looked lovely.

DD2 was rather puzzled, but she didn't understand that for a life long geek that was her dressed up and feeling comfortable.

DSIL got married in church and she only wore a very simple blue summer dress.

Wedding should be about what makes you feel comfortable and special, not other people's expectations.

I like the OP dress. If you take away the black accessories and replace with ivory/off white and pearls I think will work fine for the type of wedding you describe.
Only thing is, in the link you sent it's not available? Or have you just bought th last one? Grin

I really like the Ralph Lauren too.

For a cheaper Temperley alternative: ebay

HotSoupDumpling · 20/02/2013 12:12

OP - I think you will definitely look like a bride wearing this, particularly if you are carrying a bouquet (and you can get rid of the black belt for an even more bridal look). For the less formal wedding you've planned, I reckon it's perfect.

I wore a casual cream-coloured silk tunic dress to my wedding, and never felt (or, seeing the photos, looked) anything but the number 1 VIP! (This may be controversial, but I reckon the only people who feel the need to be OTT and 100% 'bridal' tend to be a bit insecure. Unless you're getting married among strangers, no one is going to mistake you for a guest!)

AKissIsNotAContract · 20/02/2013 12:12

I hired a gorgeous Temperley from WishWantWear would any of those be suitable?

soaccidentprone · 20/02/2013 12:16

I think the dress is lovely - very 60's inspired.

would look lovely with some 1960's shoes and a thin silver belt.

you said your hair is already in a bob? so that would go perfectly.

hope you have a lovely dayGrin

It looks so much better without the belt

I got married in the knee-high version of this
Had bought it from bicester village for about £250

I hope you have bought the dress, as I have just checked and it doesn't appear to be in stock anywhere.

you could always hire it as the poster above has stated.

or I found this which is 1950's style

or this is really pretty

lotsofboats · 20/02/2013 16:03
