I'd love your opinions - Is this dress too casual as bridal dress?

clicky link

it's lovely. The only thing is, I'd check with the bride that she's ok with you wearing a white dress. It didn't bother me in the slightest, I don't get the issue, but some people do!

I think SayMama answered your question truthfully then. It is a lovely dress but I wouldnt think you were the bride wearing it, sorry.

cookielove · 19/02/2013 19:12

lotsofboats - i thought you were the bride Smile it is very un bridey, very relaxed but also very pretty and nice.

I think it really depends on what you want, if you want something simple but more wedding like how about this

like this

or this

Although i really do think your dress is pretty!!

AnyFucker · 19/02/2013 19:12

It is too short to be a bridal dress, sorry

There is something about a hem above the knee that makes it casual and partyish (and rather lovely) but not for a bride.

PaleHousewifeOfCumbriaCounty · 19/02/2013 19:14

Too casual.....

sittinginthesun · 19/02/2013 19:14

I agree - sorry. Lovely dress, but not for a bride.

mummyplonk · 19/02/2013 19:15

lotsofboats do you like the idea of a knee length? I love dress window shopping Grin off to google.

ElectricMonk · 19/02/2013 19:15

If you changed the buttons for pearl ones and added a pale pink silk sash, a hair accessory, beautiful bracelet and stunning shoes then it could work. Otherwise, it's definitely more guest than bride.

Rosa · 19/02/2013 19:15

Sorry agree with whats been said it is lacking something to make it bridal....

ElectricMonk · 19/02/2013 19:16

Also - my dress stopped just below my knees and was very simple, but it looked lovely and very appropriate for my small summer wedding.

MechanicalTheatre · 19/02/2013 19:18

Agree with others that it is gorgeous but could be doing with being just a tad longer (are you short? That would be knee length on me).

And would need fancying up.

But I love it, really not into all those huge flouncy dresses.

sittinginthesun · 19/02/2013 19:19

How about these? Some short, but very pretty dresses...

I think it's lovely and could work but the belt definitely needs changing.

I really admire people who go for something they love rather than going with the norms, if you are the bride then it's bridey Grin

Whydobabiescry · 19/02/2013 19:20

It's a lovely dress but definitely not one to make you feel like a bride which after all you should on your big day. That's not to say that you need a meringue or something long and traditional but you need something that's more than just pretty, you need to stand out.

SoldeInvierno · 19/02/2013 19:20

I love it, but you would need something underneath, I think. It looks very see-through. It is not mega-bridal, but it is lovely and might even wear it again.

I got married in a red bridesmaid dress. It was totally non-bridal, but I still look at my wedding picture every morning (bed side table) and absolutely love the dress.

ujjayi · 19/02/2013 19:21

It is lovely. Yes to changing buttons to pearls or white satin covered buttons. Please don't add a sash. Apologies to whomever suggested it but.....it will ruin it.

It is understated and elegant and yes, it will appear bridal because I am assuming all your guests will know you are the bride Grin

FriedSprout · 19/02/2013 19:21

I think it is lovely, and when you hold your flowers and do something bridal with your hair it will be perfect. Prefer it without the black belt and with white shoes though. Congratulations

GlaikitFizzog · 19/02/2013 19:23

I like it, you obviously aren't going down the fru fru route. Are yu open to more suggestions?

ivory though

bit bridier, but ££

Please feel free ro ignore as the dress you linked is lovely, but if yu want more ideas say, I love searching for dresses!

LIZS · 19/02/2013 19:25

Sorry way too casual and , if I'm honest , "young" although that may yet suit you . I'm not sure it is even suitable for a guest really. It still doesn't have to be full length to be bridal ie www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Ariella+Lace+shift+ottoman+short+dress/D265503,default,pd.html or www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_54510+202001102_-1

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 19/02/2013 19:30

I think short can work very well but it needs a bit more tailoring for a wedding dress. I love this and this from sittinginthesun's link.

AmberNectarine · 19/02/2013 19:34

That Hermosa one from Coast is so nice it makes me want to get married again!

lotsofboats · 19/02/2013 19:42

Thank you all, still undersided- I am only 5.4 so I hope it will be past my knee... I guess the problem is I don't want to stand out!! Grin
Some really lovely suggestions there, thank you!

It just an afternoon informal wedding and I am imagining my mums vintage pearls wrapped round wrist. Pale pink and cream tea paper rose bouquet that type of thing

I am brunette, boob length hair with a loose wave.. Standard size 12.

I think I might order and have a try on, it's so hard living in a rural place, no good shops!!!

Really, really love it and agree with what ujjayi said. It's cool, slightly retro and laid back in a prim way - especially for an urban wedding. Perfect - especially if you have great legs. Trust your instincts.

I got married at 37 and would have looked and felt absurd in full 'special princess' regalia. Dress is just right in my view.
