I hope this cut and paste of web address works:

www.johnlewis.com/338320/Product.aspx#BVRRWidgetID

I am petite, size 8-10, not too much boobs to speak of (!) and 5ft 4. Therefore, anything baggy, ie not fitted, tends to make me look a bit pregnant!

We are going out to dinner as a group of 12 of us, a nice but not posh restaurant. I want to look nice but not overfussy. I tend to head towards a black dress, especially at this time of year (it's next week).

Never heard of this 'designer' before. What do you think??? Please be honest and if you think you know something nicer please add!

It's beautiful. I love it.

cessie322 · 15/01/2013 13:23

I think it's fab, was looking at it before.

LaurieBlueBell · 15/01/2013 13:35

Lovely, you will look fabulous.

carmenelectra · 15/01/2013 14:08

Its gorgeous. I'm same age and would wear. Bit tOo expensive though!

fuckadoodlepoopoo · 15/01/2013 14:09

Ooh lovely!

Janus · 15/01/2013 14:14

Also, I would wear it with black tights, probably matt black and was wondering whether I could wear knee high boots or would it be better with heels? I'm really rubbish when it comes to footwear!!

I think it is pretty. I wouldn't wear black tights, try nude. I always wear wolford as they are so hard wearing.

Def wear heels, though not like the picture. I like shoes with an ankle cuff like this shoerazzi.com/cameron-diaz-in-gucci/

Bonsoir · 15/01/2013 14:27

The dress is pretty but I wouldn't wear black if I were the belle of the ball (all eyes will be on you!).

MonaLotte · 15/01/2013 14:39

Beautiful! I'd go for silver or gold heels and clutch (depending on jewellery) and with nude tights :)

tethersend · 15/01/2013 14:51

I like it. Definitely heels instead of boots.

I'd do nude tights and red heels.

minibmw2010 · 15/01/2013 15:02

V pretty, a friend has it and it looks fab on

Maraki · 15/01/2013 16:02

Love it! The Middleton sisters regularly wear Temperly!

Janus · 15/01/2013 16:30

Oh Lordy! I am pants in heels, think of a man in drag!! Also, am I being wrong when I always think red shoes no knickers (which could make my husband's birthday!!)?!

I think these tights look nice, is this right:

Can anyone suggest a shoe that's not too high that will go with this dress or could I even get away with this

I'm thinking you may so no!!!

How about wedges? I find them easier to walk in.
Depends how tall you are for flats.

lalalonglegs · 15/01/2013 16:46

I think it is cute so would look fine with flats - maybe metallic or snakeskin ballet pumps.

pictish · 15/01/2013 16:50

Shoes with an ankle cuff only work if you are leggy.
If not, they cut your legs off bluntly and create stumps.

The dress will be lovely with flats.

worldgonecrazy · 15/01/2013 16:59

I looked at it and think flats would work with it due to the skirt-silhouette being quite "cutesy".

Alice Temperley does some lovely dresses.

ToastedTeacakes · 15/01/2013 17:26

It's lovely, perfect in black too, but for me personally the skater style high waist would make me look horrendous. I'm similar size to you but short torso'd. I hate how high the waists are on dresses right now.

ToastedTeacakes · 15/01/2013 17:29

I recently bought these shoes, I'm really happy with them!
Would look nice to the dress and not too high with support of block heel:

scarlet76 · 15/01/2013 20:03

Beautiful dress. Go for heels. Not boots.

MerylStrop · 15/01/2013 20:06

Very nice
Indeed
I'd keep it young but not cutesy, with opaques and blocky round toed shoes, patent black or coloured. Or nude tights and pointy shoes. Def need a heel. Don't want style it like a little girl.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 15/01/2013 20:14

Lovely,but i,d go for a heel.

Karbea · 15/01/2013 20:35

I think you should go with a nearly black tight (stockings?!?!) denier 7-15.

Black looks lovely with red ( as mentioned before) or silver or gold. But if you want to be safe go with a black patent shoe and a fun bag.

Do you think you could do any heel? How high? I'll see what I can find.

Karbea · 15/01/2013 20:36

Ps don't do a wedge as not really right for this type of dress.
