As the first thread is nearly full, I've set up Part 2

Thanks, Slag! Thanks, Cointreau!
I don't mind Cristalle but it's not a favourite. There's something there alongside the green notes that - for want of a better word - I find mildly annoying. But I am not a fan of many Chanel scents. Of the two rival houses I tend to prefer Dior. (I used to like old-style Diorella and Diorling - IF I was feeling confident - but I believe that both have been reformulated and are not so good. I still have a few drops of old-style Diorissimo left, but suspect I'm too old to wear it. If ever there was a youthful scent....)

However, I have not tried Calyx or Envy. I look forward to investigating both.

Slag - I also don't like sweet or fruity scents, or green tea either. Nor am I keen on vetiver in large doses. That's something else they tend to combine with green notes, especially in colognes.

When poor/young/probably foolish in the past, I used to wear Alliage. It was certainly green, but powerful enough to knock your socks off at 100 paces. Have not tried that for years....

florascotia · 16/01/2013 10:56

Hi Niminy - I do see what you mean. A cool, fresh, very early spring morning, perhaps, when the grass is still wet, and there's a chill breeze blowing?

niminypiminy · 16/01/2013 11:04

Yes...

FellatioNels0n · 16/01/2013 11:31

Are we a quiche now do you think?

We have our Quiche Queen Bee in DonaAna. Grin Long may she reign. And smell delicious.

shoeprincess2 · 16/01/2013 11:33

May I ask what a quiche is Fellatio?

OP posts:
FellatioNels0n · 16/01/2013 11:46

MrsS I have searched the ingredients for L'Eau Froide to no avail, but my guess is, that as it seems to have a citrussy topnotes it probably contains something like Nepeta essential oil. The Nepeta genus of plants smell lemony, and are otherwise known as Catnip, or Catmint. It drives cats crazy, makes them all euphoric and er....horny. Grin

FellatioNels0n · 16/01/2013 11:51

shoe a 'quiche' is the MN word for a clique. Some cliques are just casual friendship groups as you would expect, but others are slightly more formalized in the shape of ongoing, long-running threads that attract the same group of posters.

Nobdies, the Wise and Avids in S&B, Crepeys, Wolefs, etc.

And now the BPs!

shoeprincess2 · 16/01/2013 11:55

Aaaaah, I see. I had heard the word "quiche" bandied around, but didn't want to ask its meaning on any other thread! I've never been in a clique before Always been an outsider

niminy- what a beautifully written description of Apres L'Ondee!

Flora- it might be the oakmoss in Cristalle- it starts green and then goes all oakmossy and kind of woodier after a few hours. It's still my favourite though!

Haberdashery · 16/01/2013 12:30

Flora, do you like figgy perfumes? My favourite modern green is Premier Figuier, if I haven't already bored everyone stupid with it.

ToastedTeacakes · 16/01/2013 12:52

New to this thread!

I'm really turned off by Byredo scents, although they appear to be very popular. Tried quite a few and felt overpowered by them, nauseous even. Worst were Baudelaire, Gypsy Water and Blanche. Not keen on the scented candle line either, find it cloying and heavy and just generally unpleasant.

And they're so popular on tumblr, unless people just like to look at images of the packaging Grin

Also not fond of Diptyques' Philosykos (puts me back in the hayshed at the stables where I grew up). Love their candles though, especially Mimosa.

Favourite scent right now is the cedarwood and vanilla from Kiehls.

shoeprincess2 · 16/01/2013 13:14

Hi Toasted. Not tried any of the Byredo scents, but will probably give them a wide berth now! The Kiehls sounds nice- is it from their new range of fragrant spritzers?

I love Baiser Vole, it is a summer scent to me though, I can only imagine wearing it on a hot summer day as I usually like more complex and heavier perfumes. Much prefer winter scents.

florascotia · 16/01/2013 18:20

Haberdashery I like the smell of fig trees - and the leaves are a wonderful shape, like Matisse cut-outs - though I don't like the fruit. I've never smelled Premier Figuier, so many thanks for the suggestion. Another one to add to my list!

Slag - You may well be right about the oakmoss. Next time I'm anywhere near a big department store, I'll have another sniff at Cristalle and try to work out more precisely what I like and what I don't.

Quiche or no quiche (lovely idea, and I'd very readily second the nomination of Dona Ana as queen bee) it's really great to be in touch with others who like green smells.

coffeeinbed · 16/01/2013 19:31

I had a go at Byredo this weekend.
they are next to Nars in Liberty and I was after a lipstick.
Long story short I tried Black Saffron - and it was lovely.
Sadly neither black or indeed saffron was in evidence.
A very pretty wearable flowery little thing.
Not what I expected at all though.

coffeeinbed · 17/01/2013 17:46

No, just been busy ordering Space NK stuff today!! Grin I am dipping my toe into le Labo fragrances- have placed a sample order for Patchouli 24, Labdanum and Santal. I have heard really good things about the Patchouli so thought I would give it a try. Anyone tried any of the Le Labo?

OP posts:
IsabelleRinging · 17/01/2013 20:28

Do space do samples???

IsabelleRinging · 17/01/2013 21:33

Anyone tried Bvlgari Black?

coffeeinbed · 17/01/2013 21:47

Oh yes. Bulgari Black.
Didn't like it, too chemical and acrid.
I usually love smoke but this one was wrong for me.

Shoe, haven't tried the three Labo you mention but have been wearing Iris almost non stop since Christmas.

MajorBumsore · 17/01/2013 22:57

Pudden, if you're still looking for a vetyverio based perfume, I have Diptyque's Vetyverio, which is an amazing scent. I absolutely love it for the daytime. Often catch myself sniffing my wrist!

MajorBumsore · 17/01/2013 22:58

Sorry vetiver based, autocorrect seems to recognise my perfume choices!

Haberdashery · 17/01/2013 23:00

I got samples of Fat Electrician, Fireside Intense and CDG Tar today. Have had a sniff of Fat Electrician which I rather love so far. I like the slightly burning rubbery plasticky beginning and the vetiver, and then it gets quite sweet and warm later on which makes it very wearable. Nice.

I will try one of the others tomorrow and report back.

CointreauVersial · 17/01/2013 23:12

Shoe - the first half of my StC order arrived this morning without any problems. I scrutinised the envelope, but there was no mention of it containing perfume; I also couldn't tell if it was sent by air (not allowed) or sea, but it was mailed from Wisconsin on the 9th, so probably the former.

I would say as long as you are ordering samples or small decants there wouldn't be any postage problems; having said that I will look through some of DonaAna recommendations for Europe-based suppliers of decants.

Anyway, I haven't sniffed my StC booty yet, as I've been enjoying the cosy, sweet warmth of Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille today.
