No experience with White Company Marble. I'm slightly anti-cashmere (too high maintenance for me - am phasing out the pieces I already have), very pro-merino. Last year I got some good merino sweater dresses from Celtic Sheepskin. No design edge there, but they were inexpensive, well-made and a good base layer - sizing enormous though: if you want M, buy S.

Filippa K and Goat are my current favorites for simple, streamlined knitwear.

Winter sales can be very good too. Am looking forward to final reductions in the Matches sale - their merino DvF Linda dress is my new love.

MarbleRun · 07/01/2013 17:36

Thanks DonaAna - have also got a cotton merino mix one in the white co bag. Agree cashmere is not so practical but I hate hate hate the cold!

shopafrolic · 07/01/2013 18:07

I remember the stirrups well! And the baggy knees!!

I wear my Bowies with my one of my pairs of Goldsign Virtuals which are slightly cropped so sit perfectly. Colour has not transferred on mine.

Knitwear - I am a sworn ally of Uniqlo/crumpet cashmere. Washes really well on a 30 wool cycle . I am a delicate little flower and find merino too itchy without a hefty injection of silk or cashmere. I like T by Alexander Wang for cotton knits, but truth be told I have a variety of sweatshirts I mostly wear!

Animaltastic today in navy Sandro tiger sweatshirt and Current Elliott leopard cords. Grey Cobra Society cowboy boots on my feet. Nice outfit for slumming with the nippers.

shopafrolic · 07/01/2013 20:40

I knew there would be an excuse for me buying some shorter J Brands! X

Do it Shop! Actually most of my skinnies are to the ankle these days.

Jil Sander cashmere not so eye-wateringly expensive at the outnet. A few other colours too. Black and white etc

Emo76 · 08/01/2013 13:01

Just to flag the Comtpoir des Cotonnier sale has some good bargains at 50% off I am very pleased with this dress

DonaAna · 08/01/2013 16:55

Marsha re: Jil Sander cashmere, I stopped at a small shop on my street. ??? Loro Piana cashmere on sale - and it felt decent!!! Sadly nothing left in my size.

I'm giving budget beauty a chance. Saw that Asos.it has Bourjois, decided (after being a longtime Revlon Colorstay devotee and occasional Chanel foundation user - very hard to get the palest shade of either here) to try their products. Wearing Healthy Mix Serum foundation right now. Undecided about it - good coverage but dull matte finish (which I associate with Seventeen magazine cover girls in 1980s), pulls yellow and transfers like crazy (makeup on my iPhone, yuk). I hope I don't look like I've hepatitis...

Also finally received my Nars blusher. Many blushers are too peachy/coppery on me and as most Nars shades tend to pull warm, I have avoided them. But a beauty blogger friend persuaded me to try Deep Throat last summer (she has a stash you wouldn't believe) and it looked really good (it was dark and I was drunk). Surprisingly, DT still looks really good, and love the cream formula. Will need to see how it wears, so far so good.

Italian women precision-fit their cigarette trousers to match their ankle boots. Looks stunning. Sadly, I haven't achieved that level of perfection - but happy that you Amber and Shop can put them to shame!

MarshaBrady · 08/01/2013 17:40

I remember discovering the Loro Piana shop on Bond St. I'd never heard of it. It's not really in magazines etc

But oh my the cashmere. It was so soft. I don't have any, would like some one day.

MarshaBrady · 08/01/2013 17:41

Oh yes I have Nars blusher too. Just checked, same shade too. fabbo

Emo gorgeous dress!

Annianni · 08/01/2013 18:23

My prune bowies haven't arrived yet, but i've just ordered some taupe bea's for £53 from the same site if anyone's interested.

I swear I don't work for them brandosa.co.uk

Annianni · 08/01/2013 18:44

I've just realised that they've reduced the prune bowies to £52 but they only have size 39 left.

So i've ordered another pair, and i'll return the ones that are on their way.

What can I buy with the change? :o

Dauphin · 08/01/2013 19:57

Hello! Been knee deep in house stuff (literally, as finally, Work.Has Started.On.The.House.Project.At.Last.-well groundworks anyway) and so S & B has been rather overshadowed by flooring and kitchens...Yawn....However, chipping in to your chat_Really into Lancome at the mo - yes, can also vouch for the Hypnose Drama mascara it is fab; their eyeliners and eyeshadows (I am not normally an eyeshadow girl either), are really lovely and I have an excellent matte nude colour shadow which just gives an altogether more polished look.
I cannot recommend Brora cashmere highly enough. It's top quality. Yes to Nars...love their nail polishes too. Also, to report, am using the new Hydra Creme moisturiser by Chanel and it is lovely...light enough for day but can be used at night...Am having a 'dry' January, which is terribly dull...but necessary (?)....

DonaAna · 08/01/2013 20:26

Dauphin another Hydra fan here. Hydra Beauty Serum for me.
On my third bottle (have used it for 1.5 years). Fantastic stuff.

I saw some Lancome foundations that looked really promising. If Bourjois doesn't work out (still not enjoying the sticky feeling, plus I fear the finish is really like this - eek), Ill give them a try.

Good luck with the building project! Some years ago, I lived in a house that was a constant building site. I had an electrician, carpenter, plumber, fence maker, cabinet maker, you name it on speed dial...

shopafrolic · 08/01/2013 23:06

Another NARS deep throat user here! I am using the Burberry primer and foundation and it's amazing. Lasts all day, dewy but with good coverage and no transfer. Can't recommend it highly enough. I am fair skinned and often struggle....
Mascara wise I use YSL false effect and YSL liquid liner. Just back from the cinema so will catch up on news tomorrow.

MarshaBrady · 09/01/2013 09:10

That sounds really good Shop. How was the cinema?

I haven't been for years! Although did watch every movie I could on the plane so probably not much left. Not quite same visual effect on small screen but a long flight without it would be awful .

Dauphin hi, lovely to see you. Glad your house is cracking on. Sounds great, hope not too stressful. That eyeshadow sounds good.

I did a big Chanel make up shop last year and got everything. Haven't used the Spring colour lipstick, a peachy one, I thought would be a good idea at the time!

MarshaBrady · 09/01/2013 09:12

But mostly am a Lancôme fan, will go back to that probably. The moisturiser is nice too (using visionnaire ATM).

MarshaBrady · 09/01/2013 09:19

Anni well done on the discount. I'd be tempted to get jeans/skinnies on sale as I dislike paying full amount. Do you need anything in particular?

Decameron · 09/01/2013 10:02

Dauphin, I'm sure your house will be amazing when it's finished. How is your father doing?

MarbleRun, I like Whistles, White Company, Goat and DKNY for knitwear, I've heard Iris and Ink on the Outnet is good too but haven't tried it. I ordered this from H&M yesterday, it's very pink but I got an additional £5 so thought it was worth a try!

I love Chanel make-up but need to get to a Burberry counter on my own and get that. I've been using Una Brennan range at Boots for skincare, pretty good and often on offer.

Decameron · 09/01/2013 10:02

an additional £5 off.

Annianni · 09/01/2013 10:59

I did buy an oatmeal cashmere cardigan yesterday in the sale Marsha and i'm now wondering if I should go back for a grey one as well.

I would love some premium denim but i've lost weight over the last year, so i'm living in gap jeans at the moment until i've got where I want to be and I'm scared to try the nice ones on, incase I can't get my fat arse in them yet

Amber have your bowies softened up at all?
Mine came this morning and I love them but they do feel a bit snug on my feet, width wise across my toes.

AmberNectarine · 09/01/2013 11:20

Yes, they have definitely softened with wear!

shopafrolic · 09/01/2013 12:44

I went to see the Hobbit in 3D with a heavily pregnant friend. I was amazed how much 3D has improved (last one I saw was Avatar). Very impressive but I think stretching one book over 3 films may be a mistake!
I bought a lip brush today from Space NK to use with my beautiful Burberry red lipstick Union Red no.17 - a great tomato red for Autumn colouring. I really cannot speak highly enough of Burberry Fresh Glow primer and Sheer Foundation (I wear Trench).
I am also using this eyebrow pencil which is very good at filling in the gaps without being too harsh.

No style news from me really other than to say how much I am loving the Bowies.

But DS has a new stylish purchase:

Ladies I'm loving the beauty talk! You are making my must try list much longer!

2nd day with Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum.
It spreads well and sinks in well, but that's it. Maybe it covers too well - maybe it's too yellow - maybe the finish is wrong. Anyhow, it creates that artificial teenage girl look I associate with drugstore foundation. Sad, because it has great potential and could be a really great liquid foundation.

Anni, great jeans can work miracles - don't be too afraid. I first learned that when I lived in NYC and saw very large ladies rocking Rocawear. There are all kinds of visual tricks in jean design - whiskering, optic lengthening, pocket placement, style and shape. There have been many links to this excellent blog recently, definitely worth reading.

Annianni · 09/01/2013 14:08

Thanks Amber i'm going to try a bigger size this evening just incase (even though I think/hope they'll be too big)

I then need to decide on the prune, taupe or both.

Thanks for the link Dona, I did used to wear nice jeans pre-dc's. I feel a bit depressed now afrer reading that blog.
