The Worst perfume ever!

Was in HOF today and as i have no money at the moment to spend (despite their sale) decided to cheer myself up with a spray ( or two) of their posh perfumes. Big Mistake- sprayed Serge lutyens Tuberose Criminale- and it was!!!! Well the smell was criminal- like camphor, moth balls mixed with wintergreen , that awful muscle rub stuff. Jesus wept and it lasts and lasts and lasts. Can't kill it off, despite Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio on my other wrist. You have been warned.....Though i do dare you!!!

Cabotine! I used to love that, and I have a yearning to try it again. I wore it throughout my twenties, and I really liked the initial sharpness of it.

Anyway, the first two of my Surrender to Chance samples arrived this morning, so today I've been wearing Chanel Cuir de Russie. It smells exactly like Imperial Leather soap, not unpleasant, but very soapy and sandalwoody; I don't love it yet, but it might get another chance. It doesn't seem to have developed or changed at all since this morning.

Another one tomorrow (Caron Tabac Blond, I think.....)

MsArseBiscuit · 13/10/2012 20:59

Noooo, Cointreau, it smells like Imperial Leather soap ? Blimey that is going to be one serious disappointment.

niminypiminy · 13/10/2012 21:32

Kiwigirl I don't like L'heure bleu either - I wanted to like it, but it just didn't smell nice on me. Kind of flat and depthless. Mind you, I love Shalimar, and Après l'Ondee - I'm a bit of a vintage Guerlain fetishist girl.

Ohsiena · 13/10/2012 21:55

Ooh like Imperial Leather soap?? I love the sound of that. Wish I'd ordered Cuir de Ruisse!

I've only ever had one Avon perfume, called Tahatian Holiday, I wanted something coconutty and tropical for a Florida holiday. This fitted the bill for about 10 minutes the turned repulsively rancid. I threw the bottle away. I'd never try Avon again.

CointreauVersial · 13/10/2012 22:53

Well, it was Imperial Leather to me, but if this thread has taught me anything it's that different perfumes smell entirely different on (and to) other people. This sampling thing is all about trying different directions, and I'm sure not all of them will be successful.

But it is fun trying something out of my comfort zone; can't wait for the rest of my goodies to arrive.

Ohsiena · 13/10/2012 22:58

Do you think we've scared DonaAna off with our talk of Avon perfumes?Grin

YouOldSlag · 13/10/2012 23:12

possibly Ohsiena! although we are generally mourning the passing of good Avon perfumes and slagging of the new 'meh' ones, rather than singing praises!

kiwigirl42 · 14/10/2012 00:00

Niminypiminy - glad its not only me who doesn't like L'Heure Bleu. I can still smell the bloody stuff and I scrubbed it off hours ago. All 3 cats voted with their paws and took off like rockets when they smelt it. Just doesn't have any softness to it

CountryBelle · 14/10/2012 08:42

A work colleague introduced me to some "philosophy" perfume the other day. Cant remember name of it. Very light and fresh. Anyone know anything about it?

MadameOvary · 14/10/2012 08:52

This one maybe?

YouOldSlag · 14/10/2012 19:00

Has anyone tried Alfred Sung "Forever"?

squoosh · 14/10/2012 19:25

Have just bought a 30ml bottle of Molecule 01 from the Liberty website. Can't wait to try it!

MsArseBiscuit · 14/10/2012 19:42

Not me, YouOldSlag, what's it supposed to be like ?

And Squoosh, have you smelled a sample ? ( I think it's lovely, in fact I'm wearing it today )

squoosh · 14/10/2012 19:45

Haven't tried a sample, just made an impulse purchase! Sounds so intriguing, I shall expect men to swoon in my presence from one sniff.

What does it smell like to you?

pinkpaperpiggy · 14/10/2012 20:01

I went perfume shopping today - or whatever the equivalent to window shopping is, as I was smelling but not buying.

It didn't matter that I couldn't afford to purchase as I didn't find anything I liked.

The sales assistant was helpful but not at all knowledgeable. (neither am I so was looking for guidance)

It was my local Boots so choice was fairly limited.

Perfumes that I love include Chanel No.5 and Donna Karan Cashmere Mist.

I used to wear Armani Elle when I was younger but haven't tried it for years.

I tried Gucci Guilty, Loverdose, Marc Jacobs Daisy and several others but was underwhelmed.

Any suggestions for a new perfume for me for winter?

Thanks

coffeeinbed · 14/10/2012 20:02

Which one was 01 - the cedar one or the musk one?
There's 03 which I've never tried.

YouOldSlag · 14/10/2012 20:06

MrsArse, it's supposed to be a nice mild floral which I am soemtimes in the mood for. I am thinking of buying a bottle blind but I ahve had so many blind buy howlers lately and don't live near any big perfume halls to try them out.

How I love going to France and getting lost in all their perfume shops! I wish we did that more over here. Even the Perfume Shop is very high street IYSWIM

MsArseBiscuit · 14/10/2012 20:23

Squoosh, it smells quite like Terre to me, fairly subtle but warm and slightly musky, I did get a fair few compliments at work when I wore it last week but no swooning.

YouOldSlag is it really expensive ? I've bought loads blind but I am an impulsive idiot and really only get the chance to smell fancy perfumes when I'm in Manchester ( Manchester, France, same difference ...). I'm going to go perfume apeshit crazy next time I'm home.

MadameOvary · 14/10/2012 20:28

If anyone wants to sample Molecule 01 just pm me. I have perfumer's alcohol and iso-e super (which is all it contains) and can recreate it really easily. It is so expensive to buy, and difficult to sample.

UltraBOF · 14/10/2012 20:35

Really, MadameO? I'd love to, if you really don't mind.

coffeeinbed · 14/10/2012 20:37

MadameO, that's the Not a perfume as well?

YouOldSlag · 14/10/2012 23:14

MrsArse, no it's about 13 or 14 quid online but I have had so many disasters lately I am still reading up on it before I pounce.

kiwigirl42 · 15/10/2012 04:26

Another perfume I used to love was Volupte by Oscar de la Renta. Lovely floriental

MadameOvary · 15/10/2012 08:06

Yep, just PM me, it won't be identical in strength to the Escentric version, but you will get to see how the iso-e super note sits with you.
I'll be making it fresh, so ideally leave it for a week or so. If you can Grin

Badvoc · 15/10/2012 08:37

Yes, I like Oscar de la renta too.
I got a perfume called cashmere from next a couple of years back...was quite pleasant!
