The Worst perfume ever!

Was in HOF today and as i have no money at the moment to spend (despite their sale) decided to cheer myself up with a spray ( or two) of their posh perfumes. Big Mistake- sprayed Serge lutyens Tuberose Criminale- and it was!!!! Well the smell was criminal- like camphor, moth balls mixed with wintergreen , that awful muscle rub stuff. Jesus wept and it lasts and lasts and lasts. Can't kill it off, despite Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio on my other wrist. You have been warned.....Though i do dare you!!!

I love boudoir, the sin garden version is not nice at all though. Another of my faves is sun moonand stars by lagerfeld. Lou Lou blue will always be my first perfume love. I believe lolita lempicka is a close match, anyone know if this is true?

atacareercrossroads · 13/10/2012 09:09

Oh, and if anyone was in mourning like me when tendre poison was discontinued try cabotine de gres. Worryingly cheap to buy but oh my god its exactly the same!!

Itsafineline · 13/10/2012 09:22

crossroads we share some favourites. I have worn Boudoir for years and am only just getting bored with it. Which Lolita Lempicka do you mean? The one in the green box with the fab fruit bottle? It has a strong aniseed top note on me. My dh bought me the new one this year but I didn't like it and returned it. I'm afraid I've don't know Lou Lou blue.

atacareercrossroads · 13/10/2012 09:50

Not sure which one, think it will be the aniseedy one as Lou Lou blue does have a note of Anise in it. Am going to have a trip to selfridges and have a sniff about methinks. Alien and armani code are similar but just don't quite do it, not sure what's missing from them

Pinkforever · 13/10/2012 10:40

the original lolita lempicka in the green box and apple shaped bottle can be bought in the bodycare shop very cheaply...

YouOldSlag · 13/10/2012 11:04

Yes I've heard Cabotine is the same as poison tendre. I have the former but not the latter. Cabotine is lovely, not everyone's taste but when I bought a bottle blind it really grew on me and I love it now. Very tart, fresh green scent that settles to carnations on me.

Badvoc · 13/10/2012 11:10

I wear sun moon stars by lagerfeld ATM, but it's getting harder to get hold of...

atacareercrossroads · 13/10/2012 11:32

Pink thanks for the heads up, will check it out, hope its the one, I'll be the happiest person ever if I can find another Lou Lou Blue. I see it on Ebay a lot and would be willing to pay the prices but I worry that they will have gone off with them being so old.

Youoldslag Cabotine is similar on me, Tendre Poison was my second 'signature' fragrance after LLB.

Badvoc thats worrying about SMC, seems all the ones I like get discontinued.

atacareercrossroads · 13/10/2012 11:33

SMS rather

YouOldSlag · 13/10/2012 11:47

Badvoc, try CheapSmells. it's a great webiste with a terrible name and they sell SMS for about 9.99 as well as loads of other great stuff. really good prices and free postage. It's a UK site and they take Paypal too (that's where all my ebay profits go these daysSmile)

YouOldSlag · 13/10/2012 11:48

Oh yes and SMS is in Bodycare at the moment too.

MsArseBiscuit · 13/10/2012 13:00

My Cabochard has arrived, I haven't quite decided if I like it or not. Seems to smell quite familiarly 'old' at first, like perfumes I would have encountered as a child. Quite a sharp, cold smell with a faintly metallic, tobacco-y air to it. Not instant love, more grudging admiration.

Badvoc · 13/10/2012 14:43

Yos...that's me down to tee :) cheap smells...hahahahahahaha. Genius.
Will check it out, thank you.
I get a lot of compliments on SMS actually....
As I did for my long lost Avon perfume :(

YouOldSlag · 13/10/2012 14:44

Mrs Arse. I felt the same. First squirt felt like a terrible mistake- all talc and old lady. About half an hour later it was gorgeous- all leather and spice and very classy.

However I gave mine away as I didn't want to smell like an old lady covered in musty talc every time I refreshed it.

Now it's gone, I regret it. Nothing else I have on my groaning dressing table smells similar. When it settled it was glorious and now I'm kicking myself.

YouOldSlag · 13/10/2012 14:46

Which Avon perfume was that Badvoc? I can't stand a lot of them now as they smell like cheap vanilla candles when they settle, except little Black dress, which seems to stay the distance.

I used to love Avon fragrance but I don't rate them much now. They've spread themselves too far and too thinly. They should just make six excellent fragrances for the money they spend on 30 odd "meh" fragrances.

YouOldSlag · 13/10/2012 14:47

And their fragrance names are getting silly now: Today Tomorrow Always, Forever Gold Night Time for Her EDT etc

Badvoc · 13/10/2012 14:53

It was originally called nightfall, then they changed it to nightmusk and I wore it pretty much everyday from 16 til they discontinued it :(
I used to get stopped in shops by women - and men - asking me what it was...they were always really shocked it was from Avon!
I like LBD too.

Badvoc · 13/10/2012 14:56

I only see an Avon brochure about twice a year now but the perfumes don't seem to last...always new ones (as you say with odd names) and yet you can still get timeless and soft musk!!?

YouOldSlag · 13/10/2012 15:33

I know! Timeless is so yuck. I gave some to my MIL and she loved it. They used to do a nice one called Odyseey and a Louis Ferre one(?). I also liked an old one they did called Eau Givree. Flower by Cynthia Rowley was by all accounts very good but they discontinued that as well.

coffeeinbed · 13/10/2012 15:45

I suppose they they have licensing issues with the designer ones.

MsArseBiscuit · 13/10/2012 15:49

YouOldSlag, there's loads of the stuff on eBay, I think mine was around 13 quid. I love the smell now it's faded, it's lost the sharpness it had.

Badvoc · 13/10/2012 17:28

Yos...yes my mum had Louis ferrier (sp?)
I liked eau givree too!
It was a nice summery smell.
I wore odyssey for a while too, although I think I liked the bottle more than the scent :)

Badvoc · 13/10/2012 17:31

When I was young...so over 30 years ago :) they did really random bottles...I had one shaped like a standard lamp! They also to do creme perfume? I had a couple of really pretty pots with creme in...a golden pyramiddy one?
Oh! And tasha!! Remember that one!?

kiwigirl42 · 13/10/2012 17:41

I've just tried a sample of L'Heure Bleu on my wrist. Not for me - not warm enough. It smell soapy on me. Bleurrgh! I'll stick to Shalimar (I thought they would be a lot more similar)

Badvoc · 13/10/2012 18:21

Anyone tried tresor midnight rose?
I like the sound if it....
