Ok, where is the brilliant 'Warm and waterproof coat' thread from last year? I need another one.

I bought an amazing coat by Didriksons last year on the advice of a MNetter here who worked in the industry. She gave the BEST advice but I can't find the thread now. Basically she explained how warm AND waterproof is a hard combination to come by because we're the only country with such a wet and cold climate and no one designs for us. Nice.

I bought the coat for DS but ended up wearing it myself, now I need to buy him one of his own before he gets soaked to the skin!

I'm neeaarly decided on the lindsey, but I just don't want to be disappointed if it isn't as warm as it could be. Not a problem for dog walks so much, just the sitting for 90 mins in the cold.

I just keep getting slightly swayed by this. It's only £50 on ebay so a complete bargain, seems long and waterproof, but will it be as warm?????????

notsosqueakyclean · 01/10/2012 21:26

What?! 50 quid on ebay - don't tell me that! that is a bragain!! In answer to accessories, I'm 5'6" and it comes to mid thigh at front.

notsosqueakyclean · 01/10/2012 21:29

OH PHEW! (grin), just realised Agatha meant another coat - I tried that one on too - it's rather nice, seems pretty good quality but not quite as 'classy' as the Lyndsey - a really good compromise tho' at a third of the price!

youngblowfish · 01/10/2012 23:29

De-lurking to share my website find.

A Swedish website Zoovillage stocks a limited range of Didriksons coats and ships to the UK via UPS for free (minimum order £30). I just ordered a red Taylor for £176, which, while not exactly a bargain, is a little better than the eye-watering ?366 from outnorth.

All thanks to this thread I have very high hopes for the Taylor and a very empty wallet.

OttersPocket · 02/10/2012 09:18

My Ellenfield arrived this morning and it's going back to the shop as it's massive! I ordered the medium in the insulated version which apparently should correspond to a size twelve but I look ridiculous in it. I am a size 12 on bottom and top half in most shops and I do have a bust so I'm a bit confused! Sigh - the quest for a coat continues....

accessorieshelp · 02/10/2012 11:07

just ordered a lindsey. am also thinking of ordering a taylor to see which one I prefer. will report back

pmTea · 02/10/2012 11:27

you're welcome Pig Smile
they're too voluminous on my 5ft frame or I'd have one too by now Envy

minipie · 02/10/2012 12:35

Can anyone short ish (I am 5'3) tell me where the Wakefield and the Haven come down to on their thighs?

I think I want something more towards knee length rather than just covering bum. All the models are tall so it's hard to tell where they would hit on me.

kiwidreamer · 02/10/2012 12:48

That zoovillage site linked to above gives excellent photos of the Lindsay and the Taylor, lots of different angles and gives a really good feel for the coats / colours etc wish they had the Naomi on there but I think Ive been swayed by the Lindsay following my purchase of a 'smart' coat I really just need a nice parka, the Naomi was going to do both jobs but Ma n Pa came through with an early birthday present whoop!

PebblePots · 02/10/2012 15:53

Didrikson owners! - what is the Didrikson Naomi material like, it looks rustly, not soft to the touch?

Thanks

kiwidreamer · 02/10/2012 16:14

The Naomi was on pre order til the 1st Oct so I'm not sure anyone will actually have one just yet, maybe try emailing VikingKids customer service email addy - they are really helpful :)

Kitsilano · 02/10/2012 17:31

What about Elvine? shop.elvine.se/system/search/product.asp?id=1052&b=36&c=120&page=1&rnum=1

(I tried to order a Merrell wakefield was then told it was out of stock)

My2Monkeys · 02/10/2012 18:19

Pebblepots, I have a Naomi - got it from VikingKids about 10 days ago Kiwidreamer so not on pre-order - and I LOVE it! it's longer at the front than my friend's Celeste so keeps my legs nice and dry - I'm 5'5" and it finishes just above my knees. It isn't downy soft as such but not scratchy either, similar feel to the Celeste I think. I love that you can take the hood off - don't like a hood pushing against my hair and messing it up when I'm going out (as long as it isn't pouring down of course). It has a nice high collar inside the hood which can be folded down for a more "dressy" look. It's also got a great belt which adjusts the waist and looks really flattering.

anchovies · 02/10/2012 19:11

For those who asked about the didriksons desiree on viking kids...

I am 5'6 and it is mid thigh so keeps my legs warm and dry. It looks a bit of a strange shape on the viking kids photo but in real life it looks "normal" on! It has an adjustable waist so you can pull it in a bit to give you some shape.

The pockets are very deep and warm and the sleeves are long so toasty hands. The coat itself is extremely warm, not really cold enough for it yet unless I wear a tshirt under it! The hood has a soft touch inside and is very adjustable so you can make it fit perfectly - I never appreciated this until I had a hood that I can just put up, stays up in the wind, keeps me properly dry and I can see under!

Here is a link to it on the didriksons website

PebblePots · 02/10/2012 19:14

Thanks my2monkeys, does it rustle when you move around? Like when the arms rub on the body of the coat? I don't know what the celeste feels like either Confused

Thanks!

My2Monkeys · 02/10/2012 19:30

No, it doesn't rustle :) Feels rather like cotton on the outside (think it's all polyester though) and has a soft, shiny lining inside. Nice and cosy!

pongysticks · 02/10/2012 19:34

does anyone own the Aigle Cuckmere? - www.magrigg.co.uk/aigle-cuckmere-ladies-coat-night.html seriously thinking about buying that one and hopping it will last forever at that price?

PebblePots · 02/10/2012 19:36

I've just ordered the didrikson Naomi in eggplant! Woo-woo! (having big-spend adrenaline rush!)

My2Monkeys · 02/10/2012 19:37

Anchovies, funny you should post that just as I was reading - I asked VikingKids about the Desiree when I got my Naomi as I really liked the look of it (and the reduced price!) but unfortunately it was sold out in the shadow colour in my size (12 - I'm normally at least a 14 but my friends' Celeste in a 12 fits me perfectly). Apparently it's from last year's collection. I like the look of the maroon colour but wanted something more neutral that I'll be happy to wear for years (I went for the charcoal grey Naomi in the end).

My2Monkeys · 02/10/2012 19:39

Yay PebblePots, let us know what it's like! I wish I'd had the nerve to go for the eggplant, it looks gorgeous - but I'm happy with my grey one too.

PebblePots · 02/10/2012 19:48

Thanks for the info my2monkeys, & i will feedback!

PebblePots · 02/10/2012 19:57

Pongysticks - I have a different aigle & have been very pleased with it, lovely quality coat. The zip is now sometimes a bit of a pain to get started for some reason - this is my only complaint but it probably wouldn't put me off buying another.

BieneMaja · 02/10/2012 20:28

I just ordered a Haven in 12 (M). Fingers crossed its not too big, i'm a ten on top and a 12 on bum but I didn't want it TIGHT-tight. Just fitted.

Wish me luck!

pongysticks · 02/10/2012 20:55

pebblepots Thanks DH is buying it for me for early christmas gift as I'm chilly, I have a north face ski jacket, and some wool winter business coats but not s snuggly warm dog walking school run coat that covers my bum. - it looks lovely!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 02/10/2012 20:57

My Haven arrived yesterday. I wore it totally unnecessarily for work today. So snuggly!!
