Ok, where is the brilliant 'Warm and waterproof coat' thread from last year? I need another one.

I bought an amazing coat by Didriksons last year on the advice of a MNetter here who worked in the industry. She gave the BEST advice but I can't find the thread now. Basically she explained how warm AND waterproof is a hard combination to come by because we're the only country with such a wet and cold climate and no one designs for us. Nice.

I bought the coat for DS but ended up wearing it myself, now I need to buy him one of his own before he gets soaked to the skin!

But there are some budget choices out there, I'm sure. There are very often 'outdoor' shops at outlets - brands like Trepass and Regatta are very affordable at outlets. You just need to buy a proper outdoors coat instead of a 'fashion' one.

This sort of thing, for example.

BrianButterfield · 28/09/2012 17:13

This looks like a bit of a bargain.

BrianButterfield · 28/09/2012 17:15

Really warm!

BrianButterfield · 28/09/2012 17:16

Basically it's the longer length coats that are £££. If you don't mind a shorter one you should be able to get one for under £30.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/09/2012 17:18

Dairy the last coats I have bought were around the £30-40 mark from either a supermarket or the Craghoppers website when they've had a sale on, or as I said above an outdoors shop.

This is my first expensive coat.

BrianButterfield · 28/09/2012 17:21

Loads at M&M Direct

xxxresixxx · 28/09/2012 17:27

I always bought coats from a supermarket but I'm sick of them falling apart the end of the winter. I'M paying a bit more this time in the hope it will last years (and will actually keep me warm!)

minipie · 28/09/2012 17:30

Dairy Decathlon has some decent looking options at lower budgets. Probably a bit more risky on the warm/waterproof fronts though.

I want a Boden rainyday mac, but don't like ths season's colours/ designs. No luck on ebay so far. Any ideas where I could get hold of one from previous seasons?

Imlostwithoutahope · 28/09/2012 21:38

Has anyone ordered the didrikson Naomi. If so what is it like?

Thanks

nellyjelly · 28/09/2012 22:11

Ebay for Boden stuff.

DairyNips · 28/09/2012 22:56

Sorry I disappeared, got caught up with kids/tea/shopping.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I quite like this coat but can't tell if its waterproof, can anyone check for me?Smile

allotmentgirl82 · 29/09/2012 00:40

I've got a HiGear coat. It's a waterproof outer and has a zip in fleece. It has a hood too with toggles so you can pull it in really tight when its chucking it down.
I bought it from Go Outdoors and it cost £24.99

DairyNips · 29/09/2012 09:03

Ooh allotment will check out their siteSmile

Does anyone know if the coat I linked to is waterproof?

Showtime · 29/09/2012 13:11

I've always just chosen a Goretex-type anorak/parka , with a hood, and sprayed with waterproofer after each machine wash. Presently got Nikwax, but usually 3Ms and about £5 and can really recommend spraying shoes and boots if not rubberised etc. to stay dry.

DairyNips · 29/09/2012 13:21

Can you spray waterproof spray on any coat? Could I do it with the one in the link?Smile

Imlostwithoutahope · 29/09/2012 16:45

Dairy, I don't thnk it is waterproof, normally they say if it is as a selling feature. Even if you put waterproofing spray on it, it would make the fabric water resistant but the rain would leak through the seams as they aren't sealed. Sorry.

DairyNips · 29/09/2012 17:05

Hmm. That's not really what I'm looking for then.. Back to the drawing board!

Babyrabbits · 29/09/2012 17:29

I got a Merrell haven tk max £59.

Its stupidly warm :-)

dontlaugh · 29/09/2012 17:32

I know this is ££ but Ilse Jacobsen, this one. I love mine. Waterproof and fleece lined but slim fitting.

LaTrucha · 29/09/2012 19:38

North Face Lauren is also good. I've got it in brown. Very light and warm. I think it looks nice too. The hood is not brilliant.

Housewifefromheaven · 29/09/2012 21:01

If anyone is interested I am selling my two Barbour jackets because they no longer fit since I stopped smoking!

One is a Kate Liberty lined wax olive and the other is a Cavalry Polarquilt black. Size 10. They are both immaculate.

Can I even ask this on here?! Blush

wishiwasonholiday · 30/09/2012 12:02

Received my didriksons Veronica yesterday and its lovely and warm, longer than I thought but still nice.

accessorieshelp · 30/09/2012 13:15
