regular/daily makeup wearers, how long does it take you to apply your makeup each day?

jumpingjackamo · 12/09/2012 02:37

Do you have to get up an hour or half hour earlier?

Just curious really as after watching many tutorials online I often wonder how so many find the time to do this everyday. I am especially interested in what mumsnetters have to say as it can't be easy to find the time to apply a full face of makeup and get kids ready each day.

Or does it not really take that long? It takes me ages to apply makeup so I rarely bother, especially since becoming a mum, but I'm a novice anyway.

As I said, just curious. Also feeling a bit like women get a bum deal IYSWIM.

A couple of minutes. I do not wear make-up daily, but hasn't changed much from when I did.

Moisturize right after shower/bath, let moisturizer soak in for 10 minutes while you dry hair or something.
Apply any concealer, if you use it.

Apply foundation, blush or bronzer, eye shadow, liner, mascara, lips.
Done.
The longest part is allowing the moisturizer to soak in.

iscream · 12/09/2012 02:45

I don't think you need a full face of make-up.

If you have even skin tone, show it off, don't smother it with make-up.

Kayano · 12/09/2012 02:58

I wear it daily

I apply foundation with fingers (2 pumps and apply)

Quick set with pressed powder

Eyebrows filled in with pencil

Mascara on

5 mins max -
Those are my essentials

If I have an extra 5 minutes I apply eyeliner. I only do eyeshadow if I've got time and am bored, and then it's bright colours! Lol

PurpleAndPoppyWearer · 12/09/2012 02:58

A few minutes - foundation or tinted moisturiser, in the correct colour for my skin, applied with fingers, then concealer and highlighter, cream blusher (also applied with fingers), a quick brush of powder, mascara, and usually eyeliner. Done.

Admittedly I'm a SAHM. But this was the same when I was working. I wear a lot less now than I did in my 20's. Eyeshadow always used to crease and lipstick/gloss came off. I save these for special occasions now.

brighthair · 12/09/2012 03:09

15 mins
Cleanse and moisturise
Apply foundation, illuminator, concealer, powder and blush
Eyes - usually nude and a brown eyeshadow, gel liner and mascara
Eyebrow pencil

TheBossofMe · 12/09/2012 03:09

5 mins, 10 tops if I'm doing a special going out look. I wear it most days - with the look varying from natural barely-there healthy glow to seriously dramatic.

Every day I wear:

Tiny bit of concealer if I under-eye shadows
Very light foundation
Light dusting of powder
Teeny weeny bit of blush
Lipliner (colouring in whole lip)
Lipstick or lipgloss on top
Eye liner
Mascara

The only thing that might get added if its a going out look is eyebrow pencil and eyeshadow

I've worn make up almost every day since I was in my mid-teens, and am very lucky to have skin that doesn't clog and is wrinkle-free (am 40)

jumpingjackamo · 12/09/2012 03:20

Hmmm....

So why does it take me at least 20 mins to apply concealer, foundation and do a little contouring with blush/ bronzer? I must be even more of a novice than I thought, or I move like a snail!

So now I want to know how you ladies do this so quickly?!

jumpingjackamo · 12/09/2012 03:21

BTW I barely use more than a dusting of product too.

I am a sloth obviously!

What are you using to apply your foundation and concealer? And what about blush?

jamaisjedors · 12/09/2012 08:20

I wear make-up every day to work - it takes me about 4 mins.

I use a light foundation so just kind of rub it all over my face as you would a moisturiser and then wipe off my eyebrows.

Put a quick line of grey on my upper and lower lashes, a coat of mascara, and a little bit of pencil in my eyebrows.

It takes me 30 mins to get up, have a shower, get dressed, do hair & make-up and have breakfast. Add 15 minutes when I have to sort out the DCs.

I am out of the house by 7.45ish most days.

I don't spend long at all on my hair though, it's very fine and I wash it every other day and just dry it quickly.

2cats2many · 12/09/2012 08:23

3-4 minutes. I wear powder foundation which really speeds things up. Also some touche eclat, blusher, eyeshadow, eye pencil and mascara. Lipstick is applied on the bus.

StellaAndFries · 12/09/2012 08:26

10-15 minutes maximum.
Tinted moisturiser,
3 shades of eyeshadow,
Black liquid eyeliner,
Lipstick,
Swish of blush.
I try to wear make up daily as it makes me feel confident.

StellaAndFries · 12/09/2012 08:27

Oh and I fill in my eyebrows with powder.

dexter73 · 12/09/2012 08:27

It probably takes you longer as you don't do it very often. As with most things, the more you do it, the quicker you get. I take about 5 minutes to put on light foundation, blusher, eye shadow, eye liner and mascara.

It takes me about 10 minutes. After moisturiser has sunk in I put a little primer on, one pump of a light foundation or tinted moisturiser applied with my fingers, light reflecting concealer under my eyes and to hilight, eyebrow powder, eyeshadow if I feel like it but otherwise just a little shadow applied as liner, blush, contour, a little powder to set my T-zone and lipstick. I'm pretty quick though as I'm a MUA and am used to working fast!

BitOutOfPractice · 12/09/2012 08:34

A few minutes. Tinted moisturiser and maybe concealer if I look especially rough some cream blusher, slick of mascara, lip liner and lip gloss. 3 minutes tops

SunWukong · 12/09/2012 08:36

I take about five mins if I'm not doing my eyes, .bb cream rubbed in with fingers, bit of pressed powder, eyeliner, mascara and lip gloss.

Takes a damn sight longer if i put eyeshadow on.

But then i never look flawless like a doll.

TheTermagantToaster · 12/09/2012 08:38

About two minutes.

BB Cream, Benetint blusher, mascara and some powder. Done!

I look like a man wally if I try to do more than that. I'm lucky that my eyebrows are dark and well-defined. Penciling in eyebrows looks like a right old faff.

littledolly · 12/09/2012 08:39

I would say just over 5 mins. Foundation, powder, cream blusher, a little eye shadow, eye liner, mascara and eye brow pencil. No way could I go to work - or indeed anywhere - without make-up, but try to keep it natural looking.

DonaAna · 12/09/2012 08:41

10-15 minutes if I'm just doing primer, foundation, highlighter, blusher, brows and lipstick.

Add about 10 minutes if I do eye makeup (primer, eye shadow, lining eyes with a narrow eye shadow brush. mascara) as well.

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 12/09/2012 09:01

5 minutes, I wear it every day.

Light base- garnier BB cream or clinique perfectly real foundation.
Rimmel black eye liner
Clinique eyeshadow duo strawberry fudge, both shades
Black mascara, various!
Clinique stick cream blusher
Done

I always need concealer but rarely use it, just on dark circles for special occasions/when photos likely.

PerryCombover · 12/09/2012 09:05

5 mins.
Serum and SPF after shower
Then make up once dressed

TribbleTuckandDismount · 12/09/2012 09:14

About ten minutes.

I apply foundation, bob some concealer on, pressed powder, blusher and then black mascara.

I use clinique foundation, touché éclat, benefit Havana or sugar bomb blusher, benefit they're real or Clinique high impact mascara.

Oh I also use benefit lemon aid on my eye lids!

HappyOrchid · 12/09/2012 09:20

Around 5 minutes.

Brush teeth
apply eye liner, eye shadow, (concealer / touche eclat when needed, ie most days), mineral foundation and mascara.

Put my lippy on just before I leave the house, or in the car, or don't bother and just put vaseline on when I get to work.

Couldn't go out with a naked face.
